TAMPICO 2012/2013 Part 2

Is anybody missing a glove? Thats right a glove not a pair of gloves but just one.
I found one up top after sign post a few miles east of the big bowl.

So I google mapped the two snoparks. Tampico and Rimrock and it actually looks a lot shorter to get to Tampico once you get to Yakima. The run out to Rimrock is compact snow and ice so pulling the trailer I have to slow down to at least 60mph lol. Am I missing something?

From exit 36 on I82 its about 20 mi. To tampico snowpark.
Rimrock is about 45 mi. I think.
What fordguy was saying is if u come over white pass from the west side its another 65-70 miles from rimrock to tampico.

Or about 10 miles or so as the snowmobile flies.
:face-icon-small-ton

Hahaha, yup... you could easily ride Tampico from the Rimrock snow-parks if you're coming from the west side and still save yourself a lot of time each way, LOL

Actually I think its more like a tad under 30 miles to the Tampico Sno-park from I-82. Roads are in great shape now. It is only slow through Union Gap and above the 'burg of Tampico.

Groomer should make a run this afternoon around the loop. He hasn't run since last Saturday due to low snow.

The sno-park only had a trace of new snow the last couple of days. Some slight hope for some more light freshies late next week.

Currently have 6-12" at the snowpark location. Extremely Sucky and hard as a rock.

Is anyone going up to Tampico this Sunday that wouldn't mind a tag along. You've posted so many great videos and pictures of the area that it has made me want to check it out. I am from the west side but will bring my sled in the back of my truck to make the long drive more pleasant :face-icon-small-ton

Ahtanum 02/10/2013

:face-icon-small-dis Well, the lower ahtanum areas are severely short of snow. It was rock hard even off the trail until 5000' or so. Was better southern part than northern part. Was better the farther west you went also. Had a decent ride all-in-all but the bottom parts are hyfax hell.

Roads are decent both Middle and North fork, beware of rocks on the north fork. No bare areas yet on either, but another week or 10 days of this non-snow weather and we will be showing some gravel. Heck, my yard will be showing in another week and that is bad (cause I hate mowin'):face-icon-small-sho!

Troy,

Sorry we missed you. We had a good ride yesterday even with the ice. Next time you are in the area PM well ahead of time and I can contact some people for a ride.

Remember the WSSA convention here this weekend; parking lots may be more full than normal. These visitors are also bringing in commerce to our area - good weekend to make friends and show them our great area!

Pretty much any sno-park far east of the cascade peaks has low snow, rimrock was fine a couple of weeks ago, but I bet its even suffering now. Blewett is the same.

Salmon la sac and Snoqualmie area are prob the most favorable.

The Pineapple Express came in and compressed all the snow.
And I think all of Yakima was up in Tampico yesterday they tracked out the whole damn countryside.
you could see all of the deep trenches and stucks on the hills from yesterday but today you could just put right up the hills. Unless u were riding an old sled. Lol.
A huge tree fell over but not down. Its across middle fork just below whites ridge parking.

Super bowl with not one inch of not-tracked up snow

Just after 1pm all the fog lifted and it was a nice sunny afternoon. Got 59.3 miles on today.

We did find some decent snow below eagles nest going to the super bowl.
I really missed out on the good deep snow from Saturday but I still had fun.
It was 600 snow not 800 snow.

Ahtanum - Removal of Berms

I have talked to the DNR and groomer operator this late week about the correct time to remove the berms (unfortunately, due to this sucky warm weather, my riding is likely done for the year due to the decision to be a farmer...:face-icon-small-fro).

So, we are basically talking about removing the berms next week (after the 03/02-03/2013 weekend). The groomer hasn't ran in about 3 weeks (he was supposed to run last weekend -but was broke down). We have talked about moving the berms up the middle fork, but he has to truck his rig up there.

I am looking for input on this matter. The berms will be gone a month earlier than the last couple of years, but that seems to be mother:face-icon-small-sadnatures intent for this year. Once the berms are gone, people can drive to snow - but so can wheeled vehicles on our trails.

Thanks for any input,

Tampico

I say move the berms up. Slim chance of getting any low snow that will stick around, but I would bet that we'll get nailed some more higher up. Hate to see it get wheel ruts in it.

I'd say move the berms up to the 3.5 mile parking lot at the White's Ridge turnoff of the middle fork, and move the north fork berm up to the next closest parking area also. As bad as this season's been, I don't want to fight a bunch of jeep ruts earlier than normal. There's no way Vic should use trucking his groomer as an excuse not to groom, he's getting paid by the hour isn't he?

Typically March is a big snow month, but with the way this winter is going I'm starting to lose faith in a long spring season like we've had in the past.

This will be a groomer's meeting not to be missed for sure.

Ahtanum Snow update

As of 8am this morning, there was approximately 6-7" of new snow in the Ahtanum sno-parks:face-icon-small-hap. The Green Lake snotel was showing 64-65", but has been erratic. Based on the SWE (.1" precip=1" snow), Green Lake should have around 10-12" of new snow at 12pm today. The roads to the snopark were being plowed this morning; the sno-parks will not be due to them already being bare and this late in the season.

The forecast is still rather gloomy for more snow after this event:face-icon-small-sad.
