Stock RX-1 Mtn, Deep Snow, New Rider ???

if he is new, remind him to always park in a track when he stops, even if he has to make a loop and get back on his own track. This should prevent the "stupid stucks" (jump on after a coffee and pin it; screwed right off the bat).

The knowing when to let off the gas? some people NEVER learn:rolleyes:

Stock Rx1

My stock 03 Rx1 mtn did not seem to transfer that bad with the stock suspension but it did have a few other problems in deep snow the clutching and gearing set up was so bad that it would drop off to 7500-8000 in the deep sometimes lower robbing all power, the carburetor float bowls had to be upgraded to 05 specs cause they would starve for fuel when climbing or wheeling near vertical. Oh yeah I cant remember what these sleds weigh stock dry but I have 65lbs of mine so far and clutching, gearing, and it keeps getting better. I straight piped it its loud but seems to run better I shaved a total of 24 lbs just in the exhaust mods that I did seems to run a little better than it did before even. I put in a new skidoo 151x16x2.25in that wieghs the same as stock track. The summit suspension I put in shaved 22 of those 65 lbs, new drop brackets for the rear suspension was another 8 I think and a few other lightwieght stuff its going pretty good and keeps getting better. If your friend would like some advice on setup and lightwieght mods for inexpensive budget send me a pm. I would love to help set it up. If he is not a member he can send me an email at mtnsledhead@hotmail.com, my name is Justin

Very informative poast!
That's what this forum is all about!:)

Put some risers on that biotch so he has more leverage when riding. I'm 5'7" and needed at least 4" more to get them where I like them. Stock RX-1 seat sucks also; It needs to be at least three inches taller to make the sitting to standing transition more effortless. One more thing to consider; Yamaha does not know how to make a track contact the ground (my 162" Yammi = my wife's RMK 151").

Wow! thanks guys for all your uh, opinions/facts/bs and ideas :D

Ok well, today was the day. (just got back)

There was three of us including the new guy. We decided to unload and go play around in a swamp that was close by to were we parked to get him used to the sled, before we took off. Before we took off, we told him the basics and the 'no-brainers!', and some tips when playing in the deep stuff. We got to the swamp and there was about knee deep of powder, and to our surprise He got the technique of leaning, hitting the throttle and turning the skis the opposite direction, rather quickly! But, still needs a lot of practice. but, he'll get it down good in the next couple rides! We also got to some nice gnarly hills that were steep and knee deep, and so me and the other guy start pulling some climbs, and then next thing we know he is doing them also!(not as high though)

The sled did AWESOME in the deep stuff. We also found powder that was waste deep that we were playing in! He, will catch on and get these techniques down good over the next couple rides! I was/am surprised at how well he did, and how well the sled did! I got a chance to ride it, and no, i dont like it. It did blow a belt in the parking lot at the end of the day, and the three of us had to dead man the sled onto the tilt trailer, and it wasnt as bad as what we thought it was going to be! .....only a broken back! ;) ha ha ha.

Just goes to show opinions are like a**holes, everybodys got one. The fact that you are shocked at how well the RX-ton did (with a newbie yet) shows you can't listen all the BS on here. Keep us informed on your buds progress.
And yes I have rode one and it wouldn't be my 1st choice to ride either:D
