First Solar FSLR its 241.90 a share, I'll take 21 shares (~5K $)
Autozone AZO its 130.79 a share, I'll take 30 shares (~4K $)
Discovery Financial Services DFS its $16 a share, I'll take 62 shares (~1K $)

In South Dakota we have found that an equal distribution of monies among the following funds can contribute to a comfortable retirement :

4. Lottery Tickets---aka---South Dakota Retirement Fund
We'll never run out of any of the above.

I am going to stick with consumer goods that people buy no matter how bad the economy is

HAS Hasbro- good earnings
HNZ Heinz
JNJ Johnson and Johnson
I had oil in my portfolio this summer, and got burned bad in July. I am not ready to do spec stocks for awhile. Money distributed evenly between stocks above.
I love the stock market....it is a hobby for me.

In all honesty I would avoid most stocks right now, the market is horrible.

This stock has been hammered lately without any significant decrease in the price of moly. If I had some 'real' money, I would be buying right now.

Hey, if I only lose 7-8% in a week, that's a winner compared to what my portfolio has been doing!

If you have the patience you can make some money, but you can do a lot better in other investments.
If I had some real money that I didn't care about I would buy some Apple and Google stock.

Another thing, i'd keep an eye on both Apple and Google, especially come 19 Feb 09.
With broadcast TV going digital, there's a -ton- of RF spectrum being auctioned off. Whoever buys those blocks will likely put up a wide-area digital network.... huge bandwidth compared to current cellular standards, likely even more than WiFi can provide. Both those companies have expressed interest in large blocks of that bandwidth.

WFC - Wells Fargo
Both stocks jumped late last week, are a bit down today but still ahead from where they were this time last week. WaMu would be a interesting stock if it gets baught up.
AIG was the buy of the year on the 12th. Was at 1.15 per share at closing, jumped to 5+ within opening Monday.
