stock hp on M sleds??

Not trying to bag on your AC's here, just making an observasion. I own an M8 (don't tell anyone) It's a kick a$$ sled, but as far as HP is concerned, my 01 summit stomps it off the line period. It just don't have that low end grunt. I went with the XP this year because the damn thing is lighter than our mod sled. They had problems last year, but this year they are gonna be pretty tough to beat. JMO.

Do you think the low end feeling could have anything to do with gearing and or clutching? or maybe the lower then average challenger on the '07-'08 Cats?

Put the mighty XP up against a m8 with a 2.5 extreme on it and I'd put money on the m8 out performing the XP in every possible situation but a short drag race. We don't usually drag race where we ride so really that is last on my list of expectations of a mtn sled. The '09 Cats with a better track then last years and the 30# weight loss of the pro's and LE's are going to be stiff competition no doubt!

Like I said before, no need to get yer feathers ruffled. I feel that the XP & M8 are the two best sleds on the mountain period!! Thats why I own both. that said when the snow finally flies I'll see ya at the top, and we can wave at the other two who turned out:D My M8 loads up whenever it idles dealer can't fix it . . on a hillclimb last year it melted all the wiring under the hood and stuck my throttle wide open from excessive exhaust temp, my buddys M8 stuck in reverse and wouldn't shift out, my other buddies M1000 had a bad ECM and left him stranded out in BFE, so AC is not without problems of their own. Bottom line is the XP is still 40lbs lighter.

Could you supply a source for your info 'cause i last saw in the snowtech that the d8 was around 153 - 154hp stock on the dyno. I havn't seen one m8 much over 140.........

You actually do notice it when you ride them too, d8 pulls ALOT harder!

Chaz

Dyno Tech Research numbers,

Polaris 800 Dragon 08 calibration: HP 143.5 at 8000 RPM / TRQ 94.7 at 7900
Polaris 800 Dragon 09 calibration: HP 136.4 at 7800 RPM / TRQ 94.4 at 7400

Arctic Cat F8 2008 : HP 145.8 at 7700 RPM / TRQ 100.2 at 7400
Arctic Cat F1000 : HP 171.8 at 7200 RPM / TRQ 127.8 at 7000
According to dyno Tech, the air pod was removed on this test

XP 800R 2008 : HP 149.1 at 7850 RPM / TRQ 100.7 at 7650

These numbers are from Dyno Tech's wed page. And according to his info., are baseline numbers from completely stock sleds.

Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just responding to chaz's question. :)

I think it sounds even better when you just say; oh about 160 horse for a m100 or ohabout 140 hp for the m7. Then everyone around you doesnt have this great expectation. And then they dont know whats really under the hood for goodies and U pull off some incredibly stupid climb, come back down and say yup 160ish. What they dont know really really hurts them deep down inside..........

See that right there is just not true! You are miss informed there bud!

The stock '09 M8sp 153" ready to ride (wet) is 530#(11.4gal)

The '09 xpx 154" wet is 523#(10gal)

Do you have both sleds sitting in your shop? didn't think so. I'll post actual weights with pics to support soon, then we'll see whos right. But wait, I forgot this thread is about stock HP! sorry to get off subject guys. Less weight and more HP = BETTER:beer;

here is the weight from a fellow snowester on my weight thread----you lost 20# somewhere????????????????????????????????????????
New 09 M8 is 550 lbs full of everything, take 10lbs of with the seat and about 7 for the can and you have 533-535. New M8's sure are nice though and will get me around just fine. I do like the xp's though, very nice machines. the xp hold 10.6 gals for your uninformed info

Do the same to an XP 163"x16"x2.5" extreme then compare.

The 16 wide track floats better........ :D

Too bad for the Poo and Cat guys........

Minus 6lbs for an extra gallon of fuel with the bigger tank(527lbs-529lbs). Witch is a good thing in my book. :D I think it will be a great year. both sleds are great!

Stock 09 M8sp 153" is not 530# ready to ride......

550# is the number I believe you are looking for......start modding and yah, you can easily get to 530, but I will have my xpx under 510 with a few easy mods as well......

there about 25# to 30# apart anyway you compare them.....

Gas weights

Avgas weighs 6.0 lbs per gallon
mogas weights 6.46 lbs per gallon
stock m8 144hp
stock m1000 164hp

This is gonna stir the pot, and maybe kill my rep!

BUT, what manufacturer has the Ballz to make a weight guarantee and then back it up w/ a $500?

Yep, its a sales pitch....... but it appears to have weight and clarification.
Today, I received a letter stating all promised weights for the '09s and the official crate weights signed by the VP-Eng Arctic Cat

ex. m1000 162 SP promised 511 delivered 509
m1000 153 SP promised 509 delivered 504
m8 162 SP promised 481 delivered 481
m8 153 SP le promised 479 delivered 477
m8 153 SP promised 479 delivered 478
m8 162 std primised 482.5 delivered 483
m8 153 std promised 408.5 delivered 480.5
m6 153 std 487

T/A, You are also misinformed. according to your own '09 weight of 523# with out tool kit or spare belt.

Fact: '09 Cats are 22 pounds lighter then last year. Minus 8# for a LE Boss seat. 30#s total weight loss from '08s-487# = 453# with tool kit and spare belt.

'09 M8 le 153" = 453+77# gas = 530# vs '09 XPx 154" = 523#

It states 477lbs . . . where are you getting the 453 figure from? the 08's weigh pretty much the same as the 07's wich weigh 500lbs +/-
your just pulling number outa your a$$!
And let's not forget the extra 20lbs of snow weight gain according to snowest magazine.

My 09 M8 is the standard model with a 162. It weighs 483 with half oil and all coolant. That would put it at the claimed dry weight of 465 with nothing in it. My sled is about 30lbs lighter than the 07 M8 that my buddy has. The 08 sno pro M8 lost about 10lbs over the 07's because of the rear float suspension. The 09 M8's with a 162 weigh about 550 full of everything and will reach the 530 mark with the boss seat on and different can. Do a custom intake and your right around 520. Yes it always going to be heavier than the xp mod for mod but what a great sled this new M8 is going to be. I will take my m8 anyday because of the reliability factor. I have buddies who ordered the new xp's this year and some who got the new dragon, these are all great sleds. Ride what you like and fits you best.

I don't understand why you doo doo lovers are jacking the thread.
Honestly guys, it asks about M-sleds. I'm sure if he wanted to know about the xp he would have asked about it.
XP is the same old news it was last season, which adopted the crappy XRs clutch, and then bad driveshaft, week running boards, squeeked motors, and backyard build quality.

If lightweight and hp is what your after (obviously its not reliablity) we've been riding sub 450# sleds with 170 hp for the last 6 years.

The 09 M8 makes 145 hp, but the nice thing about that motor is it produces alot of torque (which is what you want in a mtn sled) It's chassis feels nimble and light when compared to the other brands, and this year its one of the lightest sleds available with the optional boss seat.
There are several additional lightweight parts for it, and several hp modifications that can done to it.

I'll tell you why . . . It's because ACmtncat got his panties in a bunch about a comment I made on here, then left me neg rep over it. I own an M8, so I have the right to comment about it.

And I do appologize to DECARLS for "jacking the thread"
