Stewart Bc trip

Is there enough in Stewart up high to ride yet? Looks like the forecast the first of next week changed to some sun and clouds. Dammit!

I see there is a nice patch of 100" snow just south of Jasper National park above 6000'. I have no idea if there is any road access to the area, and maybe it's off limits due to the "park"?

If early riding is your goal maybe look to see if this area has road access? It would be a lot shorter drive than stewart.

NOAA snow depth overlays. I would venture that 300 of the 400 inches are left over from last year. The surrounding area has over 100" of new snow. Like I said, this area gets more snow than anywhere I have seen.

Typically this area will see snow depths of 20' by Christmas.

it snows on mt waddington almost all year round its 4100m or 13400ft:face-icon-small-shoso yah allot of snow does not melt there + huge glacier all over that area.

where do you get your snow data?

Are their any roads accessing that coastal range? I see one that gets close along a huge lake, but I'm not seeing any that get up to the snow level?

not really its pretty remote area, that is chilko lk & the smaller one to the north is Tatlayoko lk.i have never sledded in that area, one of the few i have not tried.there is some protected areas in that area but not sure where.

We are looking at possibly postponing this trip to somewhere around dec 3-10. I've heard reports of 3-5' of pow but obviously no base. Looks like a ridge of high pressure is rolling in bringing sunshine for almost a week. Thought maybe we would wait for the next system and maybe save an a-arm or two!

Was in Stewart 2 days ago. About 1.5- 2 ft first day. No base. Digging to rocks. Very warm conditions. Had to drive way past mine just to see the snow. Melting fast throughout the day. Looks like another month yet.

I'm about 200 miles north in Juneau, AK and we haven't had a solid snowfall at sea level yet. A late winter here and I suspect they are seeing similar conditions in Hyder/Stewart. The snow level is at about 1500-2000 feet right now. I hope we get enough snow to ride in December.

Any news on the snow in Stewart?

The snow line is starting to come down here. It's around 1500 ft and doesn't look like there is much of a snow pack going on up high. Seems to be a lot of rocks still showing.

Winter seems to be a little late this year around here.

The problem I have had with Stewart is you really need clear sky to get around. Very little definition. We have ridden at the junction more than in the alpine, simply because you can see down there. Been rained on a few times at lower elevation too. Your really need to have good timing and weather IMHO.

First Year we went there was over 30 ft of settled snow at the cabin, and 20 ft in town, friggin awesome, but we were all stuck in the parking lot. I really felt sorry for our guide, Dave Craig that day.

they got a bunch of new over the last10 days so should be good now, clear & sunny for the weekend should here a update.we have lots up high in kitimat but none down low, guys rode just north of terrace said they had good snow.
