Southland

Had a great ride and meet with the FS in regards to the Adopt-A-Trail on the SBNF. Had 4 club members and family, met up at the trailhead to Keller Peak trail. Rode up to the Fire Lookout, played in some of the adjoining areas, held some avalanche beacon and probe practice, and some talk on future plans and rides.
Some of our big gripes are the conditions of the staging areas. Travis is working on getting better plowing to address these issues. With the AAT volunteer program we can have use of the Fire Station to park and launch from... also can get special use to ride other areas in the Snow Slide and Butler Peak areas and also put in at the North Shore area in upcoming rides. Very positive talks today, they are really excited to work with an organized/club entity.
Thanks to Travis, Rob, Casey, Christina, and Jesse....... we had a fun day. I loaded pictures at the club website gallery. www.southlandsnoriders.webs.com

Chris and I rode Friday from The East- Kennedy Meadows side. About 8-12" at the gate and snowing when we unloaded at the forest boundary at the Kern river fork. Dumped snow all day, and things got deep not far up the road near Rodeo Flats.
Rode out near Troy meadow and Fish Creek, then north towards Monache and back near Blackrock.
First time riding in from the East end... saved about an hour on the drive up compared to going the Kernville way.... and found some neat areas and lots of meadows. The day just flew by and wanted to explore some interesting areas, but ran out of time. Get some others together for next time and punch through to the north and get into Monache meadow area.
Tons of snow, got about 10" fresh while we were there, but was a wet snow, and had turned back to rain where we unloaded. Want to do some more exploring on the east end real soon.

PM'd you Larry...

No real 'legal' off trail in the Angeles and San B forests...

Sherman is north of Lake Isabella/Kernville area... has groomed trails, meadows, off trail riding, warming huts, etc.....

www.sugarloafers.com has some maps and driving directions

fun place and it's the closest if coming from So Cal area...... also get to Mammoth with another hour of travel...

Might try to get back up to Sherman next weekend.... if anyone else is interested too

Well ... there is technically with permission.

Any National Forest road closed with 12 inches of snow or reasonable snow/ice coverage so not to harm the earth is allowed WITH PERMISSION.

Also any state road adequately closed by sign or gate can be used with PERMISSION from CALTRANS.

I received permission from CALTRANS to do this using HWY 2 but was denied further access because someone walked my sled tracks as a trail and made it back to their car after night hence my tracks created a safety hazard and the supervisor of HWY on the La Canada side said no more sleds.

I bet there is some "locals" riding the snow covered / closed roads around Wrightwood.

Nice to see someone riding.

I have not rode much this year so will be at Kernville 11-16 Feb.

Can you ride Thursday 11 Feb and Friday 12 Feb?

I'm usually off work on Friday's..... might be able to come up... I'll talk to you during the week

I am wanting to give Sherman a try soon from the east side but it will have to be in a couple weeks.

Going to give Bass Lake up by Fresno a try this holiday weekend.
