South Bighorns

Ok. Aren't these threads supposed to be about snow and not bashing the other users on here? Cause I look at these to find out snow conditions because we drive 800 miles to get to our favorite spot; The Horns, and not to listen to you guys complain about eachother. If you want to do that start a new thread and call it "I have nothing better to do other than ***** on snowest" then maybe those of us who use the forum "riding areas" can actually use it for what it is meant for. Oh by the way I think revrider knows what he is doin.

Hey Revrider07 - what resort in the Southern Horns? Wasn't aware of any besides Meadowlark and Deer Haven. Our group, like bdr68, drives over 1000 miles just to get to Meadowlark. We were actually perfectly fine with poor management, keeps the traffic down. We are planning to be out that way end of Feb., beginning of March. If we can't stay in the Southern Horns, we may try the Snowy Range (about the same driving distance).

WOW! what a stfu a$$hole. were sorry your not smart enough to figure out whats goin on.

What are you... like 14? I assure you my intelligence is a subject you are nowhere near enlighted enough to question.

Just to clarify, I am the GM of a resort at Burgess Junction and an owner of a resort in the southern bighorns, therefore I think I know where I was but thanks for caring!

I am aware of who you are.
I, as most all of the folks that ride the Horn's and frequent SW know this because we subscribe to all of the Horn's threads.

I have no problem with you promoting your resort(s). It is a staple of good business. I do however take issue with the statement "owner of a resort in the southern bighorns". Unless you own Deerhaven, Meadowlark, The Pines, The Southfork Mountain Lodge, or The Lodge at Willard Springs, it brings this post to the forefront...

Snowshoe is no more Southern Bighorns than Ranger Creek, (Hi Doc!) So I take issue with the correlation.

As bdr68 stated "I look at these to find out snow conditions "

Anyone from these area's knows that the northern and southern ends of the mountain vary greatly for conditions. The northern end almost always has significantly more snow and better conditions than the southern end. It is a severe diservice to the folks that read this thread to report the conditions from the northern end of the mountain, while presenting it as further south. The post above by sno700sks proves that point - it's not fair to them...

BTW, Auggie - I still wanna ride again... North or South!:D

This is my personal experience. We have been to the snowies, cooke, togwotee, and the horns. Cooke is great for climbing, Togwotee has both boondocking and climbing along with insane snow, and the snowies is good if you can go there and by some chance it isn't windy. We have been to the Horns about 8 or 10 times and have always stayed at Arrowhead or The Passage. The horns almost always have good snow from Feb. on and have the all around best riding for all kinds of different riding styles whether it's climbing or boondocking in bottomless meadows. Although the farthest south we ever go is about 15 - 20 miles south of Bear Lodge.

That's what I'm sayin' bdr68. All of these area's are in proximity, but are night and day different.

I love to ride wherever I can, but I try to represent each area for what it is - good, bad, or indifferent.

All of us "southern Horn locals" love where we ride, and admit that the northerner's have it a bit better. I just want you "foreigners" ;) to have good info on the areas you plan to ride before a thousand mile trip!

Moto - Thought Rev might have been talking about Snowshoe, but wanted to be sure. Do you know what the status is of Meadowlark? Last I heard the new Owners were supposed to take possession by now, although I found it hard to believe they would be able to open with the septic issues.

bdr68 - Thanks for the input.

Moto - been out to Meadowlark 5 or 6 times since '99, definitely seen the fall of that place, we could care less, as long as we have a hot shower and a place to sleep. Yes, they did run out of gas and liquor on us. No big deal, we just drove down to Ten Sleep filled the cans, stopped at the bar grabbed a couple bottles of Jack, which they mixed for us in bar back at Meadowlark, we were happy.

Do you have any suggestions for us if they don't open? Thanks.

By the way, is WFO still around?

I am sorry to report there is NOTHING on our end for lodges (Tensleep side). They tried to get the ski resort up for the winter, but due to several liens being placed on equipment, etc., even it is closed.

It's really too bad, we are having an epic year for snowfall. I can't remember this much, this soon, since I was a kid! It would be worth a look at staying in Buffalo, or even staying at one of the Northern lodges and riding south (Passage, Ranger Creek, Snowshoe) If ya work it out, I could haul fuel to Deerhaven for ya!

As an addition...

Tensleep offers decent accomodations as well. (Sorry for the ommission local folks!)

We are screwed on the mountain lodges. Apparently, all of the lodges have been virtually stripped of everything to satisfy financial obligations. I'm guessing no one is going to pay the asking price for a shell of a business, but I guess we can pray!

BOYS BOYS BOYS !!! And a lady (aka Revrider07) must we fight? Cant we just get along hummm LOL Truth be told I dont care where you ride in the horns north or south its flat good this year and only going to get better from this point on Its to bad that the lodges on the south end were owned buy a DUMB Shumck That screwed it up for many of us locals and for those that drive mile after mile to get here. Your welcome come on up down over or whatever to get here Myself Moto and many others would be happy to show you around and help if we can. We may not show you all the secret places but we can show you sum of them!!:D Im with moto don't miss lead those that ask about the south horns with facts about the north true no lodges no gas on the hill BUT the SNOW there is no one that should be whinning about that !!! U wana ride the south come do it it wont dissapoint Sorry so long but want to add my 2 cents or was this more like my 1.00 worth Any way bring on the snow !!!! All This ramble and I don't even have my own sled this year !!!!!!!

Soooo with nothing going on up there, there should be plenty of room to leave the trailer and drive back and forth? :) We have a group coming on the 13th of Feb.and we will probably stay in Buffalo. Thanks for the update on the lodges!

Are they grooming to trails in the southern horns? Thanks

My buddy started out this season grooming. I haven't talked to him in the past several weeks, so I'm not sure on his status.

Last weekend, the lot at Deerhaven was done, and the trail towards Meadowlark lake was done. Everything North and West from Deerhaven was not done. We rode about 18" of fresh powder on the trail to West Tensleep lake late Saturday afternoon - it was off the hook!

I can't speak for the rest of the hill....
