South Bighorns

i have not run any 2 track cats but have been around them some. i agree that each has its place. would you agree that as the hours increase on a piece of equipment, the possability of failure increases. why risque it? if you read in any state contract for grooming they put in a maximum number of hours your equipment can have; this is to reduse the likelyhood of equipment failure. that is the reason for trading for newer cats. this does not mean that the equipment is shot. tuckers run cummins engines mated to allison transmissions. i think that everyone in the automotive world would agree that this is a very reliable and long lasting combination. a main argument for using tuckers as trail groomers (especially tera's) is that they work to provide a more durable trail surface. how do they do this? first: the rubber tracks cause less disruption to the snow allowing the drag a better chance to work. second: when a 2 tracker makes a corner, the inside track has to slow down and the outside track has to speed up making it dig and chew up the snow where the tucker "round steers" around the corner. i can go into more depth and more advantages of the tucker if you would like.

Just a short post to note your post about automotive world parts and that is totally where the design of the Tucker originated and is derived from... automotive parts while others HD snow cat manufacturer's utilize time proven, HD off highway proven industrial hydraulic components/diesel engines to power their cats as in the heavy duty construction equipment field. Enough said.... I am done on this and will respond no further to any comments on this thread about snow cats and grooming or lack there of......:D

Heeeeeyyy Topper!

I have GREAT NEWS!!!

The State got a new groomer for the South end!!!

It oughta really do us a good job.

The only apparent caveat is that it must need an oil change.

I'm just guessin'... but since it was sittin' at an auto repair shop, the State mechanic musta been too busy working on those low cost Tucker's to get to it...

...or he wasn't sure how to find the oil filter! :D

Only every SkaDon't fan in the world was offended!

EVERYBODY knows SkaDon'ts 4Smoke weighs at LEAST 150 lbs less than that snow cat....

Just to clarify the above snow cat model. It is a 60ish Thiokol trackmaster and a great specimen at that. They are a classic snow cat all terrain vehicle. Many are in use as personnel snow cats, utility company vehicles, search/rescue and are sought after by some collectors now........ Good find Moto:D
