So how is this downturn in the economy affecting you?

well, my 401k is taking a beating, but it will be 20 years before I need it so I am not too worried. The 401k is just a side note to the retirement anyway.

With the serious downturn in the housing market I am looking at mountain property.

Sorry to here about that. 7% doesn't equate to much compared to current inflation and the devalue of real estate.;)

BTW: Does Dam Dave Work at the Damn Dam at the Gorge?

that was TWO 7% raises, and the significance of that depends on what I was making:D

I thought about making that point but didn't want go there.
So maybe I can get a dam tour when I get to the damn dam next year. Hows the riding there? Almost bought a house in Manila for a rental last year, but someone was faster than me.

SCARY TIMES, just in time for Halloween!
SERIOUSLY!!! Is it just me or does anyone else notice a trend here... the big money and the congressmen that are in bed with them want to scare us into bailing their overspending, domineering carcases out of reality, but if you look around, those of us that actually work for a living are doing just fine--sure, investment prospects are dim but thats how investments are, you can win and lose.
Its "back to the basics" time, thats all. Times will get a little rocky but I believe this "crisis" is going to be the kind of quiet revolution we need to have unless the Feds tax every last bloody cent out of us to bail out the ultra rich. Thats when the "you know what" hits the fan of common sense.

Just my opinion for what its worth!

Well.......

I'm feeling it now and I have a feeling that I and my customers are going to be feeling it even more this winter. I'm glad my wife is quite the "saver" and we have most everything paid off. If I didn't there'd be a fire sale here to beat the band.

On that note: Go support your dealer. If they have helped you out some time, this winter would be a good time to pay them back. Go get another set of gloves, boots, or maybe a TRAILER!!! Regardless, they are not looking forward to the winter and if we don't take care of them now, they won't be there in the spring to get your quad ready to go.

Since I haven't been living beyond my means and I have a good mortgage I haven't felt any of this. Actually it's helping because of fuel prices going down. I don't know what the next 6 months will bring or the next year as this all plays out but if history has anything to do with it I'd bet we will all comeout of this just ok. Changes for sure but still being able to make ends meet I would think?

I sure don't look at my 401K right now. Thankfully in that respect I have 30 more working years!

The housing market is killing business here. I am in Land Surveying and things aren't looking good. I have been working 50-60 hours a week for the last three years and now I'm lucky to get 40 in. I have started applying for jobs in the oil and gas industry in Western Colorado, It sucks cause I will most likely have to live in a hotel room for the week away from my family. Can't sell the house cause my wife has a great job with good benefits which we need right now cause she is pregnant. So things are just going to have to be real tight for a while until this mess gets straightened out.

I'm in Canada but a lot of people here are worried to. This summer was the best ever for my family, own a construction company. Not to worried, already booked solid all winter and next summer, work as much as we want. Hoping to pick up my first home next spring if the prices are still low, sledding is only gonna take a beating because i'm saving for a house.

Things are looking good on my end so far. Been working in the oil and gas industry long enough that bust cycles don't phase me much.

Hell, there are more job openings then ever it seems.

I was mortgaged at 80%, now it's about 100%. I have a sled and atv on ebay to pay for my transmission in my diesel. Couldn't sell or trade the truck if I wanted to.

I leave for Marine Corps OCS January 15. :) Guranteed job for at least 10 years and they're gonna pay me to fly...fantastic. :D

God bless ya semper Fi. Im getting killed in this economy. I hope it does come back. This is the worst it has been since...then.

This is a depressing thread. I think I am going to ride my old Rupp with a scarf around my neck that gets caught in the clutch so it chokes me to death.
Not that long ago we were all riding the wave. Now we have hit the rocks on the beach. Time will cure economy.
Think of it this way. We will have more to time to snowmobile.

I'm on the opposite side of this equation, I just left the military 6 months ago but I'm using my active duty GI Bill for grad school. I got beat up a little in desert and took a couple hard parachute landings training here in the states so the VA donates a little to the cause every month. I was planning on a masters but if the economy isn't good when that's done, I guess I'll just stay in school until I get a Phd. I make more now w/ the GI bill and stuff then I did on active duty. I guess when the gov't pays the bills you don't worry to much about the economy. It's kinda like welfare....except I worked for it.

Did you tuck & roll?

I didn't tuck and roll, Ol' Sgt Airborne would have my a** for that. Our drop zone happened to have a runway running thorough the middle of it. A little montana wind and big slab of concrete makes for good times!!

Here's a shot of us in Vegas out looking for the Casinos!!
