snowmobiling is bad....apparently

Yep, I have seen that one before. I really think some of the comments of the the snowmobilers retaliating really hurt our image. They make us look stupid and ignorant. Some of these people should keep their mouth shut if they really want to help us out.

I also don't think the skier has a clue as to what the snow itself does to all those plants and shrubs. Add another 3-4 feet of snow and the settling and compression of the snow on those plants and shrubs are harder on them then the sleds.

Couldn't agree more. The dude that posted that vid is a complete idiot, and obviously has no grasp at all of how little impact there actually was there.

Every week I try to kill my grass by riding on it with a mower, and even cutting it! But guess what tree hugger, it always grows back!

amen to that!!

i remeber this vid and another one he posted about his whole day being ruined as 3 or 4 sledders cruised by him and his xc ski buddies nicely and as quietly as possible on modded sleds. I wrote him 2 really long polite and well thought out messages explaining a lot of things and asking him to not automatically assume that the area was closed to snowmobiles as it makes anyone who watches the video get an VERY biased opinion towards sledders.

How did this guy know that i drive 1000 milese each way to create smoke, laud noise, and to drink beer? No tree huggers drink beer? IDIOT!!!

Couldn't have said it better. The comments made by sledders look 10x worse then what he said in that video. Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot.

that guys is funny...seen his other vids before. The serious in his voice cracks me up.

"Look at he acres of desimated nature...

But the comments from the sledders are seriously bad. Realize that he has the ability to remove them if he wanted, so he is leaving them up for all to see.

Wow! looks like a smear campaign. I could only see a few bushes that were disturbed. Hell he was standing on them. I bet you could go there in the spring and it would be beautiful with no damage to anything.

yeah didn't look at the comments until now. that is inexcusable, you can show your dislike to someone and their ideas in a much more constructive way!!!

I completely understand minimizing our impact on the environment.
I can completely sympathize with anyone that respects the environment and wants to keep it natural. However, it should be for the right reasons. That being because you love the outdoors.....not because it's trendy to act environmentally conscious, or simply because you're butthurt that you walked for two hours on skis, only to find someone blast past you on a snowmobile.

I think it's clear that the guy whining in this video is upset because of the aesthetics of the snow have been disturbed. As far as the bushes? Maybe he has a point, but those things are like weeds and are very resilient.
I think it's funny when you look through the rest of his videos, and he's hiking along a trail somewhere. Sorry buddy, but snowmobiles don't make trails like that, hikers like yourself do.

Your other point is the disturbing of wildlife. There have been many studies done that have proven that snowmobiles are far less of a stress to wildlife compared to hikers and skiers.
Animals are alerted to the snowmobile minutes before it even becomes an issue. Even then, they know snowmobiles aren't predators.
On the other hand, hikers and skiers give no indication of their proximity and are silent like a predator.

A good comparison would be a person sneaking up to you to scare you or harm you with a ghetto blaster blaring on their shoulder, or someone being completely silent until they're right next to you. Which one will startle you more? Hopefully you get my point.

Your other video is titled:
Snowmobiles Ruin Wilderness Quiet in Colorado

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLa4IbW-cEQ&feature=channel_page

This is the type of thing that really annoys me.
First of all, you're not in the "wilderness". I know, I live about 15 minutes away from where this video was shot. You're in the Webster Pass area, just outside of Montezuma. It's open to snowmobiling, all the way from Montezuma, over Webster to the Tiger Run area on the Breckenridge side.

So here is why you are upset-
a) you drove up from your home in Golden, Colorado to "get away from it all"
(I learned this by reading your website www.RogerWendell.com )
b) you're basically a tourist, and have no idea of what areas are open to what access in this county
c)being the gaper that you are, you skinned up a road that in your mind was
"wilderness, and really remote"
d)apparently the road, the structures, and the already present sled tracks were of no value to you in evaluating your location
e) as you and your Joey pals are gaping around and feeling really hardcore like you guys had really trekked into some remote ****.....a couple of sleds cruise by taking the wind out of your sails......all of a sudden, you didn't feel so tough and hardcore...no, that was replaced by feelings of stupidity and foolishness.
f)in order to protect your fragile ego....or at least trying to justify yourself and not look like the moron "guide" in front of your Joey pals....you decided to instantly project your feelings of inadequacy onto the snowmobilers.

Take responsibility for your own stupidity and quit blaming others.
People like you are the worst.

Next time, go ski touring where snowmobiles aren't allowed.

At least then, you won't look like such an ignorant douchebag.

Just like everyone else, this stuff pisses me off. But one thing continues to stump me. Why do these skiers and snowshoers travel where we do? They have thousands of acres that we either are not allowed in and/or cannot access. The quick answer is that they want our groomed roads and packed roads from our sleds. I like to get on my skis at times and I go where sleds aren't allowed.

he doesn't think much of hunting either

http://www.rogerwendell.com/hunting.html

typical lefty hypocrit. He has this quote on his hunting page

Contempt for animal life leads to contempt for human life.

and then he has this picture. I wonder if he would be happy if the hunter was his kid or his brother.
