Snowmachiners defy dangers to recover body of buried buddy

i applaud these guys for taking a chance and trying to retreive the two burried. if you think about it what if it was your closest family member or very closest friend up there. to me i would not be able to function without knowing that they are all back home and not left up on the mountain. I would have done the same thing as them. sometimes you just have to do risky things to give your mind and body a sense of accomplishment that they did everything possible to get them out. it just matters how things are put in perspective with them as to what and who comes first in their lives

i respect the experts and volunteers opinions about not going up there but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

bash me if you want but this is all my opinion

Your right, if I was burried I wouldn't want anyone risking their life to recover me, but on the other hand, if it was a buddy buried up there, I wouldn't even think twice about running in, regardless of snow or weather conditions! I'm not sure if I could live with myself knowing that my bud's up burried. Rmanzek, hats off to you guys, some people may call it stupid, but it is exactly what I would have done, and I'm sorry that you have to be an example. May Chris and Jeremy rest in peace.

Anybody have pic's of this area?

Not looking for accident scene pics, just curious what this country looks like.

What good is it to any of them if I lose my life goin and doing something that was advised by trained professionals to be not safe?

This statemnet, exemplifies why I would never ride with someone like you.

The mere fact is, I ride with people I trust my life to, wether it be an alive life, or my dead body life......... Seems to me, I would be putting my life in jeopardy riding with someone with your feelings, you just, Don't, Get It.

Regards to those lost, and to those that know the true, deep meaning of "Friend".

or my dead body life.........

My dead body "life" is not worth anyone's live body life.
If the conditions during the recovery are as bad as the reports at the beginning of this thread say they were and a friend was thinking about trying to 'recover' my body....I hope someone would explain how selfish this act would be.
.....but this is just me.

My sincere condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy.

Regardless of whether it was unsafe for them to be there, I couldn't just leave a friend behind. I would go past the "line of safety" for a friend and I would think they would do the same for me. It doesn't matter whether the person has already passed it's still your friend up there.

I think my feelings are the same as most.

I would not want to put my friends at risk to come get my body...

however,

I would never leave my buddies on the hill. They would have to put me in handcuffs and take me off the hill before i left a best friend on the hill... how could i ever face their mothers and family... hopefully i never have to experience that...

l have always felt bad for the rescuers that lose there lifes when trying to deal with other peoples foolishness...they lose there live for an hourly wage for people they don't know...but thats often the job.....in this case though...these guys are friends and family that went out....and by the article it seems they took as many precautions as they could with still proceeding...the bottom line is that they know that had the situation been reversed...they ones that died would be the ones going in...these boys did the right thing, and tomorrow they are the ones that live with it...we don;t,not yet and hopefully never...

One last post and I am done with this one. These guys go in with the no man left behind attitude even after the trained professionals deemed it not safe. So now their world turns to crap and the worst happens and another avalanche comes down and kills a few more. Guess what? All the family members of these people are going to expect SAR to go in and help these guys out. And then when SAR says Hey the conditions are not safe to do this and we need to wait for the conditions to improve. Then guess who the a@@holes are going to be for not going in? ------------ My point exactly.

I did before I posted. What part did I miss? "State transportation workers assisting in the recovery effort saw the avalanche and notified troopers around 2:15 p.m.,"

Ski,
You stated your point, and are now mad that people don't agree with you, or told you that you don't understand friendship the way they do. You'r right, you should let it go. They are right, you don't have the same feelings towards your friends as they do. Your priority is with your Wife and family. Good for you. Let it go.

This thread isn't about you or your thoughts on the matter, it's about some guys that love each other more than they love tomorrow. Maybe their tomorrow isn't worth living with out their friends. State your opion and let others do the same. Let it go.

Those are decisions that you have to make for yourself, and then talk over with the people in your life that you love. No one is saying that you have to change your mind. Let it go.

My heart is sick for everyone involved. Family, friends feeling that loss, SAR feeling the frustration, and the trooper that has to make decisions that are unpopular.

I know this might be shocking, but just maybe we don't know all the details...
FoxNews story about the skier Read through that and you get some more info about this "recovery". Seems like explosives were used to relieve the avy danger and that there were a BUNCH of skiers not 5 minutes away where this skier got caught. And they had a Forest Service medic with them.

Maybe the sheriff just didn't like being told he could shove off because it seems like it was more than just a bunch of "limit pushers" going in for their buddy. And if it was so dangerous for the sledders to go back in what were the skiers, with the Forest Service medic" doing just 5 minutes away from the original avy spot.

Yea, shocking, we don't know the whole story.

We once had a sherif tell us that he was going to leave our friend's body on the mountain until conditions improved. So some friends went in and brought it out. Until you are faced with the situation you have no idea how you will react. I'm fine with my buddies leaving my corpse there until it is safer, but I also don't/won't pretend that they will head that advice.

Let me ask ya something ? If you were out with a group of five friends and a slide came down and burried two, would you go into the deposit and search or would you wait for your expert to show up ??" ithink alot of you calling these actions "dumb" would wait. I know dam well what i would do!! Places we go on our sleds are thought of being dumb crazy on a regular day. Sounds like these guys know the area and are good riders and thought it out.I dont know where alot of you guys are from on these forums and how much snow you get. But up north here you can get alot in a short time. You wait it out well you could have another five feet or more of fresh in a short time and now you have a big problem again. I would be with you you boys for sure doing what is right for your friends and there familys. Im sorry to hear about your loss. ryder

Dude, you have no point........ They went in successfully..... No one was hurt, not more avys......

Why is it necessary for these keyboard jockeys to criticize everyone single persons actions..... Just because you don't agree with someone or something does not make it wrong:confused: Don't you think these people have enough going on???? Instead of being a complete @ss wipe, how about showing some compassion....:(

I for one commend these guys:beer;:beer;:beer;..... I would never leave a friend behind.... These guys are trying to help the families of the lost ones get closure.... Kudos to your guys:beer;:beer;:beer;

Exactly!!

To the people with negative comments, remember to put yourself in the shoes of the rescuers who had two of their close friends still on the mountain before you call people dealing with grief and loss "dumb", grandstanders, or say they are thumbing their nose. All of which are not the case, and please be smart enough to hold judgement and negative comments until you know the entire story and not some quick story out of a local newspaper.

EXACTLY!!! You have no idea of a situation until you are in it. You say it's dumb, how do you know that. Your way of thinking often changes when your in the hot seat. My regards to the families and friends of these men.
