Don't mistake me asking why it is bad for them to want to make money with what they actually need/want to do. I'm saying it doesn't really matter. It's their site; they can do what they want. Make money, lose money, turn it into a site for knitting enthusiast, whatever.
The true heart of the matter.

And I don't take issue with suggestions to make the site better without the change. You can make them, and they might accept them. But if you're going to try and pass arguments like "everyone else can run their sites of ad revenue" as tautological (in the logical sense), then someone might counter that's not always the case. Given the amount of information actually available to the users, there have been some pretty strong accusations (again, not saying it was you). Agreed.

The problem is that many of us feel that HP were not honest in their stated reasons for the change.
And yes, I know that is purely subjective opinions on our part.

I was referring to the numbers on potential member fees.

The advertising revenue is totally out of my hands.
I simply have no control or input on it at all.
It exists independent of what I do here.

And there is nothing I can do to convince you otherwise.

If you do not accept the letter that started all of this, why would you accept anything else either??

Once someone has made up their mind that there is a conspiracy, it is very very hard to ever prove a negative and convince them that it is just not so.

And with the current level of acrimony on this thread, that becomes an all but impossible task to accomplish.

And the first post gets deleted....
Let me try another approach.

Chris,
Why are you presenting your reasons for going to a paid site on both this, a winter sport forum and the LDS forum you OWN and CONTROL completely simultaneously?
It really can't be coincidence this is happening can it?
I mean, What are the odds?

Will HP and your AVOW (Religious, Mormon) sites be sharing the same servers?
Is that why you need the biggest and latest and greatest?

Thou shalt not lie.
Liers go to hell.

Honest question deserves an honest answer please.
I for one do not wish to fund servers for the Mormon church and their prophecy of the "End Time"

THIS makes no sense, as I have stated before:

IF your boss comes up to you and says "your division is losing money." WHAT manager wouldn't say, either to their boss or themselves" There are only 2 things I can control income and expenses, YOU are trying to say that your boss wants you to "not lose" money but will not tell you what the income is? The income potential for the ad program is the ONE thing out of all of the variables that you can control, as you can't control the number of users or the number of "eyes", or the number of clicks.

SW has this at their booth at a snow show in about 2002.

Here is how I feel!

It is not the cost, it is the fact that they want us to pay for something that is now "better", but in reality is a lot worse. Without even bringing up the pay issue, there are people leaving like flies heading to a new meal with all the issues that are going on and now they want to us to pay for something that is worse. Yes, they provide this as a service, but they need to remember that it is the users that have made it what it is. Take the users away, what good is the service.

I think there is more people talking about leaving then there are leaving, and even so people aren't going to leave for good, it's to interesting to see if it fails so they will keep poking there heads in if they see things are coming along still they will be back.

Christopher,

Thank you for your time. I don't like the fact that you're refusing to answer questions while asking for money nonetheless, I think the following questions are relevant for members considering how they'll vote with their dollar, as you put it.

Do you have any ownership stakes in this forum now or expected to in the future?

Do you have any ownership in the Magazine?

Will this site and AVOW be sharing the same servers?

Please answer truthfully and I'll go away from this thread.
