It continues to amaze me that people complain about features that are 100% USER CONTROLLABLE.

The goal was to make most of the options user selectable after all.

It is kind of like getting in your favorite truck and someone has changed the seat, mirrors, radio, etc. It is just kind of annoying. We are all creatures of habit. We all resist change to a certain extent.

Some of us, myself included, are not too computer savvy. It is a pain in the butt for me to search around and figure out how to make things look the way they did before, the way I was familiar with.

Your forum, your right to do as you please with it. Some of us are trying to get SW to look at things from Joe User's point of view. In the end the more people you can keep happy here, the more users and SW and HP will benefit.

Snowmobile Websites are like bars. I hang out in all of them, but now there is a cover charge. Sorry guys, but there are pleanty of free sites that I have just as much fun on. I think you will see a large drop out rate of members. They will go other places. I think the donating member thing is a good idea and I think it was working well. Making it manditory will discourage new membership and visitors.

Those are my pennies.

When are you going to address the poll in fouled plug? I sure do feel like I am talking to a brick wall on this issue.

Christopher, I am just wondering, I know the bottom line is its not our business since its a private company, but will HP as an act of good faith be releasing cold hard numbers as far as how much of our membership dues will go into donations .

Once we have decided on the dollar or percentage amount of each membership, yes, I will share that.

Gov't(admin) is trying to make us take something that we don't really want and then charging us for it.
Granted there is a need for change in both I don't think this approach is the best one...

It seems this forum needs revenue. Agree?
It seems revenue comes from advertising. Agree?

Up until now, businesses (and I'm not referring to clubs) have been able to completely free of charge, advertise their products for free in their sigs.

How much revenue is/has been lost from the ability to pimp products for free? How many businesses choose NOT to be a site sponsor on Snowest because of this? How fair is it for responsible businesses to basically support those who can advertise for free in their sigs? Do we have any idea?

This site needs money because there's never been any REASON for these businesses to become site sponsor's. It's exactly the same argument that users are using now. Why pay for something when you can get it for free?

Now you're asking members to susidize these businesses advertising budgets. This IS the principle.

I wonder why dootalk doesn't allow businesses to pimp products in their sigs for free?

I think a more apt insurance example would be that your insurance provider will begin charging you for something that had previously been subsidized by the government and provided to you free of charge. That subsidization was not enough to pay for the service entirely. Now the insurance company has made improvements to the program and provides more expansive care. They would like to charge you a nominal fee to use the service.

Now, maybe if SW was trying to get you to subsidize your friend's membership, it would be a more appropriate analogy. Or if you were getting insurance for free and now you will be charged. But, honestly, other than whipping up emotion, this compares very poorly to health care reform.

I am very guilty of making pointed comments towards people on here. However, it amazes me the way you respond to so many on here Christopher....or how you talk about many of them. These are SW customers. It just baffles me...even if they are completely wrong.

Polls can only give you a sampling of the members who are willing to participate.

here we have a thread that over 5,000 have read.
but only 300 or so have posted to.

Any poll you run will be HIGHLY BIASED towards those who are motivated to participate in the poll. Its never going to give you an honest cross section of the entire membership.

IF there is a section where people can sell crap, is there a listing fee? I really don't see a problem if someone is going to sell something for $100 charging them $1 or $2 to do so.

I may be wrong on this.. because I wasn't here.

But I think SnoWest went down that road a couple years back and got TONS of FLAK from the members REFUSING TO PAY FOR ANYTHING, exactly as it is now.
