SNOWEST FORUMS: Member Comments on "Letter to All Members"

Status
Not open for further replies.
Ollie - little voices keep telling me that we need VideoChat, Malls, Webinars, LiveTopic, Social Groups, ProprietarySearch (WTF?), Blogs and Amber Alerts....

If you build it, they will come(and pay!) - even if they're already here(for free).

And the best new feature of all: HAL : Automated Answer Forum
Now, they don't even need members!
This sweet little gem will answer your oil, clutching and suspension questions for you! ...and debit your VISA all in one fell swoop.

What can snowest and all its members do for our sport.

Example: We are all losing the battle against our right to our access of our public lands, and that my friends WILL NOT change with out a lot of support and some BIG DOLLARS.

I'm not sure that is part of snowests agenda. But who better than someone of this size with a very large number of members, to do something like that for the sport that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US HAVE A VERY DEEP PASSION FOR.

So what I am saying is that I would hate to see people move off this site and get spread out, You lose the volume of you voice.

Just my two penny's
I sure thought we tried to lay that out CLEARLY in the letter. We want the site to take on a greater role in advocacy.

Had you come onto this forum and asked using polls "What we like" What we don't" and what if any changes we would like to see. Sat back and watched for a few how it was all accepted.

Mean while getting to know some of the personalities you'd be dealing with, become one of the group, just enjoyed the site. Got a feel for who'd make a good moderator and who would not.

Then after everyone or at least most in my opinion said change very little, you could of started to implement small little changes. Tell us, just give this little change a chance. I would bet every penny I've got we would have ended up JUST ABOUT where we are now. Stopping and pulling back some when you reached the point of major slow downs of coarse.

I've been around since 2002, seen the forum overhauled twice. And each time it was changed, we lost a little something. Last time I changed my name and didn't bother keeping post count or join date.

I think it's time you step back a little and approach this site as if you would your own family. I'm very close to a lot of people on this site and consider them family worth fighting for.

Thanks for your time,
Mike

Letter Submission Machine

SuitCase69: Snowest will have a pay-per-click automated letter writing machine with flashing text and audio. (JAVA or VBScript - your choice)

You simply put your VISA card in one side, click on which canned letters you want to send, select who the letters are being sent to, agree to the terms and click save. It will automatically send the form letter and charge your card a nominal $00.99 fee per item. If you want only email submission, the fee goes down to $00.19 per submission.

Heck - that's what everyone pays for a song at the iTunes store!
Cheap, killer deal.

They're 99.999 sure this will increase the submission of letters to various decision makers, as we're making it easy to contact them!
The first 25 letters are free with your paid, 3 year subscription to the 4M. (applies to email only, of course)

;-)

OK, none of that is true, but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night!!

lol Whether you agree or not you have to think that is pretty funny!! LMAO :p:D

You keep assuming we came here to just share information and learn things.
That's wrong.
We built friendships, we harrassed each other, we slammed and were slammed. We fought about stupid stuff for no reason other than we wanted to.
An airplane on a conveyor belt for crikeys sake. It don't get much sadder than that (WOW was that a funny thread).

You keep looking at it like a buisness, we looked at it like a disfunctional family.
We had members we didn't like, and members we did.
There are guys I have never met and would help out at the drop of a hat.
I have given away parts to guys in need just because it was a nice thing to do.
Look back 5 years. See how many active members we had and who they were.
Then look to see how many of those same people are here today.

So you go run your buisness, the family will just move on.

Christopher, I would appreciate a serious answer to a serious question: How many members are you anticipating will stay and pay out of the 36,000 present members? You must have some estimates?
You can't really use the 36,000 number as that represents all members, not those that have logged in recently and been active on the site.

That gives us 14,000 members in the last 30 days.
Of those you can run many different projections, each of which has a different outcome. Pick any number that you like, because it runs the full range of possibilities.

Ask me again at the end of December and I will have a much better feel for reality once all the hyperbola has settled down and all the upgrades are in place and working.

I'm still curious if say 30,000 people stay and all of em spend 30 bucks for a 3 year membership and then the doors close hows that get dealt with, are 30k people gonna find out where the head guy with all the money is and take care of "business" Amazing the talk on the other free sites seems to be all the people leaving here and finding new places...looks real grim... as stated before i'm not opposed to paying the 10 bucks just need to make sure its gonna be worth my hard earned cash, even if it be only 10 dollars
Stick around for another month and then make your decision after everything has calmed down, the hardware installed and software running smoothly.

Ollie,
I just don't think he's been here long enough to really understand, I'm just glad my adopted family has found a place we can continue being just that.

I really don't know if snowest will stay a viable business venture but I know it will never be the same for the majority of people who helped form it.

I also realize that the powers to be DON'T want it to be the same or we wouldn't be talking about any of this..

I have been a member of snowest since 2002 but I was a lurker since back in 99 when things where very simple here. I have no problem paying 10 bucks for this but are there any chance I can get the rest of my post back?wtf?
Darrin tells me he has NOT been able to find any backups of the old forum database that I could extract and import into this one. So for the moment there is no way to get the old posts back.

Well said, enough with the angry outbursts, name calling etc....., I would love to see this site back on its feet again, with the issues resolved, and once again be a great source for information and entertainment.
And hopefully when things are working again there will be a place for the likes of me. :beer;
My Best,
LA
You will always be welcome here.

Next we will get the pitch of all the even newer things we need, for a slight increase in fees.!!!
Ain't gonna happen. They spent a lot of time determining the fee structure that would support the site going forward from this point on. This should cover all the bases for years to come.

I honestly do not know what the true costs of operation have been over the last 11 years so I can't comment on that.

So I have been promoted to the God Father now eh?

As for scraping SnoWest.
No, I REALLY DON'T THINK there is any chance of that at all. None, Zip, Nada.

never say never...and you have commented that this forum never made money and always cost money etc etc but you make the statement above that you have never known the true costs of operation...well im sorry but its impossible to realistically have a view of losing money without knowing costs of operation...imo...im confused...yea go ahead use that part against me...but gee wilikers..you generally know that if you wipe and you got a stain that you probably did drop a turd...at one point anyway

Now, do I use the hollow pins or the solid ones?
...and which color spring did you use?

Yeah, he's right here next to me working on it...

.........what, you can't see him, he's on your left side!!!!!!
NO, damn it you're not my only hope.....

Damn it - I want my $$$$ back!!!!!

I am a business owner and understand the costs associated with owning one. Expenses never seem to quit, something always needs to be fixed and as an owner you can only charge what is fair to our clients.

I will subscribe to the forums. I like the new layout and options of the forum. I don't like the slowness of the forum as it currently is.
That problem will vanish in the next couple weeks once the new servers are installed.

Silly thought

Hey, just a thought.... yep, I got them too.... lol. Anyway, I'm thinkin that two separate threads, well maybe 3 actually be created. Those in favor can chat in one, those opposed in the second and those undecided in the third. This would kind of act like a.... uh um...ahhhh!!!! Brain fart... the word is eluding me. Anyway it would be like signing your name to a paper to get the attention of those required.

A little help here.... what is the stinkin word.....

Oh yeah. Petition. Duh lol no one said I was a smart dude!

<<In order to keep this thread clear of "debris", a separate thread has been created to discuss this. Please post your comments, questions, and replies over here:>> --Brian

So, 728 user comments for and against are just "debris"?

Wow - this is clearly more than just Christopher's antics.

MD.

Are you suggesting that we could divide this discussion into SUB-FORUMS?

What type of navigation would be best?

Could one sub-section go into one of the two swapmeets?

;-)

You know, it might just be worth the 10 bucks if Christopher used his powers for good and changed any mention of snowhawks to unicorns.
