"snow elimination" boards for us big guys (questioning strength)

after seeing a set of air frames a buddy put on his new pro, i got really interested in getting some aftermarket boards or inserts for the oem boards. i fight snow/ice buildup all the time on my M8. the only thing that i am worried about is i am pushing 290 lbs fully geared up. what brand do you guys recommend that will work well, and still hold my big azz? i realize i may have to sacrifice some "performance" to get some that are a little beefier.....but there has to be something better than what i've got....

Skinz

I've done a few sets of Skinz Airframes now....M8s and a Pro. They add strength and rigitity to both sled types. Has to be better for you no matter what your weight. They do not allow snow to build up....PERIOD.
Will be trying a set of BM Fabrication boards this year too but have not received them yet

I'm a big guy also and have some experience with Better Boards. The original boards did bend some, but not enough to complain about. I now have the HD Better Boards and have no bending whatsoever.

Skinz Airframe boards we have a few sets on our various sleds, no deflection when you stand on them. I'm not going to say how much I weigh, but with gear on its more than the number stated in the first post. Lets just say I dont need to do the wrong foot foward thing to get a sled on its side. :bounce:

The Skinz and B&M are really nice and I wouldn't worry about them at all.

thank you for your response. i always wonder about some of these aftermarket sled products now days. everyone is so worried about shedding a pound here and there, so i fear these companies will skimp on their products just to make a claim of weight loss over the OEM part they are replacing.

if i am that worried about shedding 10 lbs off my sled, ill get my fat *** on a treadmill. (not that it wouldnt hurt anyways, but you catch my drift, hah)

Put a set of these on. This will hold your fat azz. The plastic stops the snow from sticking and there is an added aluminum ledge. They are well built and work great.

those are much more appealing to the checkbook. i would settle for a modification to the OEM boards. i dont see how those can make the boards stronger though... i dont feel as if i need stronger, the OEM setup seems strong enough for me. i just dont like the snow buildup....

No they are not. Your boards are aluminum. As you know snow sticks and builds up on aluminum. The Throttle Up boards are a plastic top. As you move your feet on the plastic you remove snow from the surface. I had Snow Eleminators on my M7 and the snow still built up because they were aluminum. The powder coating will help and as allways the choice is yours.

do you have the plastic coated ones on your sled? i cant help but think they have to be slippery as hell.... and their grip studs dont look all that "grippy"

I have been very happy with the air frames...though a little spendy.....zero snow build up very strong ...I'm 260 with gear.

Yes the plastic is on top and on mine. I love it. They age very grippy but I ride with air bob soles on my boots.
Get a hold of madsigntist. He builds EZ boards. No cutting required. it is just a overlay. Superb fit and finish. He builds TOP NOTCH products at a GREAT price. You wont be disappointed !!

I think these boards have the plastic all the way back. I would have had them had I known how good the plastic worked.

The Skinz air frame are everything these people say they are. They take some coin to get them but worth it if you can afford it. Your weight would not hurt them.

FWIW..

I weighed in at 241 + 20lb pack.
So I am standing on the boards at 260Lbs EASY.

They are absolutely utterly RIGID!

ZERO FLEX.

Honestly, I couldn't say better things about this particular product.
They were the single best thing I put onto my sled (next to the supercharger of course:face-icon-small-hap)

SKINZ

I'm 238lbs in my Birthday suit, my ABS pack has got to weigh 20lbs with all my avy gear... and I love to jump! No bending, no snow build up.
