Because WE are the ones providing the thing that they SELL to the masses.

Think of us as the supplier & Snowest is the retailer. By the way... the bill is due.

IMO, the only people here who have no room to talk are the ones that lurk & provide nothing. Even the ones who just post on occasion at least bring a LITTLE bit to the table.

IF there's someone in here bichin who provides nothing useful otherwise, then by all maeans I'll agree with you, but I'm betting those types are premium members anyhow.

I totally differ from your statement. Well, at least the threads I view, 99% of the time the Premium Members are answering and helping out the basics members. Due to what I believe the basic members havent been on here long enough to pony up a couple dollars to help run the site.

Just my thoughts on the situation.

Yep. I just got here, same with M8Magic.... Neither of us ever help anyone either... we're just here to whine.

You can delude yourself all you want but your money is NOT going to help "run" the site (we had less issues when it was free). It's going into Christopher's pocket. If you think otherwise you're not terribly bright. Oh, sorry.. it must be because of people like me that they had to create a horrid ad that you opened up by accident all the time just to be obnoxious (btw, the simple fix of not making it open all the time worked well, thanks for that guys.)

Sounds like your the not to bright guy.. How and why is a guy suppose to be here 24/7 to fix the problems with out making a living.. Im not deffending anyone. But it is completely STUPID to think that anyones time is free.

Will you come to my shop and work 40 hrs a week for free and then tollerate me bashing you because your work isnt good enough when I got it for free?? But I quess once again.. Thats just how my brain works!

All the other forums out there are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts...
yeah, NO.

You can lie to yourself, but don't try to kid the rest of us that know better. I'm not trying to argue that we go back to the way things were, I'm just here telling you that you're full of poo if you really think that money from us was NEEEDED to make this thing work. I could name a hundred forums that do well & make money without charging the user.

I even know a guy who bought a local CO kayaking (MUCH less money/advertising dollars changing hands) for a pretty good penny & does pretty well off of it just from the ad dollars.

Oh, of ALL the other forums I've ever been on, none of them have had three days of uselessness.

There is a reason that other forums are very successful without charging their users. Cognitive dissonance, look it up. People will do what they have to to convince themselves that they've made the proper choice & they will then defend this choice even if deep down they know that it's not the most logical choice that they could have made.

I know someone who paid a pretty penny for a forum, a LOCAL forum in CO. It's a kayaking forum that has nowhere near the opportunity for advertising dollars that this one has, and he does very well just off of advertising. This is just one of hundreds of other forums that don't have the issues that this one has & run off of advertising dollars. Sorry, none of the other owners are doing it out of charity, they're running the forum to make MONEY, and they do. Either way, what's done is done, I'm not arguing to go back cause it's not going to happen, but when you want to whine about basic members having an opinion, and somehow the fact that we didn't waste $30 deprives us of the ability to have an opinion, you need to stop & think about things for a bit.

Stupid is as stupid does bud.


btw, still having the same problems, this morning was fine, but this evening is pretty bad again

What is going on with this site? couldn't log on this morning and several times lastnight.

is this what we are paying for? i am up for renewal don't know if i am going to drop more coin if this keeps up
 
That one was DELIBERATE.
I shut down the forum for 6 minutes to do a full backup of the database.

This morning at 5:50AM the User Table of the main database crashed.

We repaired it and brought it back online around 7:30AM

Then found out that we had lost ONE user account in the restore.

We had to go into the table and edit it by hand, which meant that our backup was no longer current. So I needed a full backup and had to shut down the forums to do that.


Tonight we are going to run a full set of Repair / Optimizations on all tables and counters on the site.

Why should I PAY? (Re; post #79) Advertising pays for the site, just like it does all the other Forums on this planet;
Car forums
boat forums
Stereo forums
skiing/snowboarding forums
and on and on. You don't pay (to read yoru own posts) on any of those forums. They work. They're reliable. They're resources for people to share on. Here, I spend a whole snowmobiling season gathering objective data on a particular model's issues. Real data. Not guesses or lore. Actual number from the field. Then I find a solution, post pics, the technical fix for everyones benefit and....I can't even READ the f'n thing. Then I get people PM'ing me for further advice. Now it's consuming more of my personal time, to help these people.

I want to help them. Normally I would. On any othe forum, I would. But who on earth PAYS MONEY TO GIVE ADVICE? Not me. Sorry. No college course anywhere. No "get rich" program. No one, no where will advise you to invest you hard earned "free time" to diagnose complex problems, find a reliable solution, and them PAY MONEY to give that info away. I'd do it for FREE...which is being nice. Pay to do it? Not happening.

If that make's me a "jerk" b/c I'm asking someone to "run a forum for free" (all while there are 7 visible banners on this page, as I type), then....I guess I'm a jerk.

Of course, then there is the guy making the money off our knowledge, experience and advice...all while doing a pretty undeniably sh!tty job of actually RUNNING this forum.

I've been a member of this forum for 10 years. Of course, it doesn't show it b/c all my data, posts, etc have been lost over time. I'm a basic member not b/c I'm new or need help. I'm basic b/c I don't pay money, to GIVE ADVICE. I didn't 10 years ago, I don't on other forums, I don't here. All that's happened here is someone has ruined a good thing (for me and others) while profiting in the process.
