sledding in revelstoke

Thanks for the info Randy. WOW estimated 10 mil in the hole...

Apparenty that article points out, the management company that is running the resort owns the Sandman Inn, Dennys Restaurant, and Moxies.

I know where I won't be spending my money...;)

it didn't say 10 million in the hole.... 10 million was northlands investment.

even so 10 million is not a big number to be in debt when building a resort of this size

I still can't beleive there is so many of you guys coming from Alberta complaining the room costs you an extra $50.

You sure like to spout off about your 50k trucks, 25k turbo sleds, enclosed trailers but when the locals have an opportunity to make some cash it's a bad thing.

Anti up and help the locals, they've been scraping by for ever it's thier turn!

crappy

Hey where's the snow and pic update? hope it doesn't mean bad news. Any info would be apreciated.

just got back last night, frisby and boulder are the worst I have ever seen. It may as well been august. going back on the 28th, but if something does not happen i will postpone that trip as well. Frisby has 2 foot cement base with a 6 inches on top. rained all day saturday, some new stuff up top. need about 4 more feet of snow to even be considered good early season riding.

I would think that when skiers come out from Calgary and Vancouver passing by other ski resorts and then get to Revelstoke and see this:

They may wonder why they drove all the way to Revelstoke and ski in this stuff.
I would be willing to bet the vast majority of skiers would rather ski on a sunny day and on groomed runs. Not soupy days with foot of powder and that powder would only last the first hour the lifts are open anyway! The hard core
skiers are going to head to the heli's and the cat's to get the deep stuff anyway.

I think the Revelstoke ski hill has a tough road ahead. They are sure going to have to sell a lot of ski passes to recoup 10 M!!

The gondola at Revy does access some of the old cat skiing terrain....thats what makes it such a killer mtn to ride!! I hope they pull through their money issues!!!

That a great idea dont support local establishments and when the resort doesnt make it and alot of the locals lose their jobs watch how many other places close their doors:mad:

100-120/night is not unreasonable for 2 queens/double etc, (50-60/person) I'm working away from home in a small town in AB with very little there and pay 120/night for a single:eek::( The hotel I stay at in Revy loves sledders and caters to us.

What all of those granola eating skiiers forget is that revelstoke was a very successfull town when there was no ski hill and the sledders were the main source of income. The skiiers come to town stick 8 people in one hotel room and spend nothing in the restaurants or other businesses in town.

My buds and i travel alot for snowboarding and sledding and not once have we stuck more than 2-3 to a room(in the 25+yrs of skiing/boarding i have never seen it either) and other than the gas money we spend equal amounts of cash with either sport while outta town(even with all the granola we are eating:confused:)...just curious are you a skier or boarder or just a sledder?

We sledders know you skiers eat granola, we dont see it, but we know.;) lmao :D I raced for years, there was granola everywhere, why i retired, couldn't stand it anymore !!

I stand corrected for the 10m// I however don't hear any moaning of hotel prices on this thread... Be happy us Albertaners spend money in your woods and support your economy...:light:

SHEFFY, I will support local businesses that support sledding, the skiers can support businesses that support skiing. If you had a choice to stay in a hotel or eat in a restaurant that supports something you do, or not, what would you do? I am sure Sandman inn and Dennys will survive without me.

It's funny how you seem to think that the ski hill is why all the local businesses are there. They have been happy to take our money for many years before any ski hill showed up!! I can only comment about the things that I have been told but I know for a FACT that the staff at Zala's would rather have there dining room and lounge filled with sledders before skiers!! That is right out of the girls mouths!

I used to like staying at the BW in town, when Sandman bought it, I think it went for chit. Especially when they shut down the lounge and the restaurant.

Two minutes later she said the exact opposite to a table full of skiers.....she was working you for a tip! haha.

HAHA
Gotta disagree there..Zalas became who they are well before skiers came to town. They have never forgotten that. Heck, they even play sledding vids all night. Last year we shut the place down a couple of times, the owner sat down with us chatted for quite some time, and let us take our time to leave. That's hospitality!
Guess this thread went sideways...

Hows the weather today?

Doubt there were any skiers or sledders in there that day. It was the middle of summer but thanks for your input. You obvioulsly have never been there.

My lord, put a fawking sock in it. I could care less who drives a 50k truck, who thinks who should spend who's money where and if ya fawk yourself with a granola bar. Its an age old arguement that Common sense should prevail. Its pretty easy to see who does and who does not support sledding, but let it rest in the SNOW CONDITION section...
