146 2.6 catalyst track

My question is Has anybody cut and removed the lugs between the big paddles to resemble the 3 .0 track?
I would think that would give more traction in the deeper snow and not spin so much

It worked on the dual rail 2.6 powerclaw, don’t see why it wouldn’t on the alpha track.

I did it in 2021 on my new Riot X Alpha 146.

It was 50 short lugs cut if I remember correctly. 4.3 lbs. of weight loss.
Used a saws all with a new blade, cut when lugs were sticking straight out the back (off the rear idlers). Gotta be very careful you don’t cut into the track rods.
It was nerve racking honestly.

The rubber strap in pic was from something else.

In my opinion they should’ve left em’ out of the mold, way too crowded for a lug that tall.
If someone else has a better way to do it cleanly I would like to know!

maybe make a u shape piece that goes around the fingers so the saw blade rides on that and cant hit the rest of the track.

A utility knife, or a carpet knife work great very easy and makes the 146 work way better, did it to last years sled and will be doing it to this years

I agree with the over kill on the lugs spacing.

This skid is fun and in certain snow it'll make a ninety degree turn like a dirt bike, twin rails won't allow it and getting rid of those extra lugs should make it even easier.

Been cutting tracks for quite a while on the one ski, best thing I've found so far was reversing a sawzall blade and sharpening it one side, it's fast and a steel template clamped to the lug if your looking to save some of the lug and give it a clean look touching them up with a bench grinder.

I round the lugs to mimic a dirt bike tire.

It should be easier quick clamping two pieces of steel on both sides of the lug directly to the track but thick enough to avoid cutting the rods.

I will cut out those smaller lugs on the 2.6 Alpha this winter, haven't made up my mind if I'm gonna leave a height.
