Sled for GF....

Well I haven't rode ether of those sleds, so can't comment on them. Like livetoride said good additions are; riser, hand guards, better boards (or another brand.)

Yes,you don't know who I am or who I ride with.Lets just say the women I get to ride with sometimes are the best out there. And I didn't mean I know TONS of girls who are better then guys.Just the ones I do know will ride circles around MOST... see? I said MOST guys....

I could name drop and all that chit but thats not the point of this thread.I know most people think a beginner should ride a 600.Well I don't and I have had very good luck teaching people(includeing girls) on high horsepower sleds.(200+hp)So haveing her learn on a 140-150 hp sled is no big deal in my opinion.

Thanks to the people who gave meaningful answers....:D

And I fixed my post to say they can outride most guys, not all...

This has been a fun thread to read! I've about spit chit outa my nose a few times! LOL

If you can get the M8 cheaper, go for that. If by chance she can't handle (which I seriously doubt will happen with her) the 800's hugeness of power:rolleyes:, you know how to clutch around that. :) The hugest thing I can see, due to her size, don't get her a 162.... Her days will be longer and happier on a sled that is easier to flick around.

Yeah, she could probably take a 600 where alot of peeps go on their 800s due her small figure, but what many of these peeps don't realize is she's gotta go where you go... with your 195 hp! :p

Alot of people think a 800 is a high horsepower sled.I don't.

bwahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa So true..... so true.. :face-icon-small-win

I for sure will not get her a 162,I am only looking at 153,155 or at the max a 156.

I have learned that lession, day in and day out a shorter track sled is so much more fun to flick around. The ONLY time a longer track comes into play is highmarking and I don't do much of that anymore. And if she wants to highmark, with what she weighs a 156 will take her plenty high..

Thank's for the input B..:face-icon-small-hap

Mainly just wanted to know what sled people liked better, the cat or pol.

I know what works for me,wanted to know what works for others.I knew I'd get flamed for my opinions,oh well,to each his own.

Everybodys a expert on here.:D

So true Powerbrad!!!!:)

That is exactly what I'll do if it's to much for her at first. But judgeing from the one time she rode she will be pissed if I detune it..She has been into quads and dirt bikes for a while now so she at least has a start to be a good rider.

Seriously, if your such an expert.
Why bother to ask for advice?
I agree.
You already had your mind made up. You say you ride with a bunch of girls that ride better than most guys. Just ask them. Why bother to ask us? We're just a bunch of posers in your eyes.
All you cared about was cat vs poo vs doo? You will never get a definative answer to that one. Flip a coin, can't lose either way.

800. Do it right the first time and save money. People often forget the happy flipper is completely adjustable downwards, but a 600 isnt adjustable upwards!

Interesting, but wrong.

A detuned 800 is harder to ride as the clutching is never right and it never get into the powerband. A throttle stop has the same bad effect. And you still have to deal with the flywheel mass effect that make the big bores less nimble.
A 600 can have a big bore kit installed with pipes and airbox mods for far less than the initial price of an 800. A 727 kit on a 600 poo will perform nearly as well as an 800 with a pipe for thousands less.

If brute force was the answer, we would all be riding turboed 1000s.

I did ask them and they said to post on here..(They said it would be a good laugh and it has been!!)And my first post asked for ladies opinions and most that pm'd me said to get the 700 at the min and the 800 would be fine too.I only had one say to get a 600 but even she said she mostly trail rides and does not go boondocking.

Lighten up..People take this chit way to seriously.:face-icon-small-dis

I have detuned a few sleds and it's not to hard to make them work.Yes you have to clutch them but you have to clutch most any sled to get them to work right. And it sure is easyier to take a throttle stop out and reclutch then it is to install a big bore. It's nice to be able to do right on the hill so the rider can feel the difference and see exactly what more power does to a sled and the way it handles.

To each his(or her) own..:)

Your opinion wasn't what ticked me off.
It was the condescending attitude that you gave anyone who didn't buy into your buy em a sled with a million hp theory.

As far as everyone being an expert on here, look in the mirror.
You asked for opinions and got em, then proceeded to belittle the opinions that didn't fit YOUR idea of the answer you wanted.

08 M8 153, stock chasie, Primary: ORG/W, 75gr. SEC: ORG, 44/40, Rock Rollers, D+D shift assist, install set of ODI Ruffian Grips so she can hang on and you need to eat 2 bowls of Wheaties before each ride so you can keep up with her all day.

The original title to this thread was " I need validation to buy a big bore back up sled for me but I want to call it a 'Sled for GF' ".
No dissenting opinions.
It really does not matter if you put her on a a high hp sled. What matters most in the beginning where and when you take her.
Stuck sucks and the amount of time she spends stuck will have a direct effect on how much she wants to sled. Sitting around watching you dig out of some monster climb is not going to make her love sledding either. Flat light, poor vis and tight trees may be fun challenges for veteran sledders but not to a newbie.

There is no ideal chick sled any more than an ideal guys sled.

Buy what you want. It's OK.

I believe in buying what you will grow into - and it sounds like she will have no problem with an 800. It's more the setup of the suspension, length of the track and rise on the handlebars that will make the sled ridable for her. I have had 153 and 155 and they are both great all around track sizes.

You also gotta look at a first time sled and know that any of your choices will be awesome - I think if she's been riding quads and bikes, she'll learn to finesse the horsepower and would be much more happy on the higher horsepower. Horsepower is your friend!

I agree that the M8 would be a great sled for her - especially since they are easier to find and less expensive.

Bars - suspension setup for her size - boards to alleviate the snow buildup aggrivation - good gear - patience. A recipe for a great riding partner!

:) 2fun

I should have said "she'll wanna go where you go" not GOTTA GO where you go! lol My bad.

Problem with asking for opinions on this site is that they are all over the board. 90% (or more) of the peeps will have no idea who you are (and I don't mean that like WHO you are.. lol), who she is, where you ride, what you ride, how you ride, etc etc etc.

From what little I've been around Dana... I think if you took her out on a yucky day in decent pow, get her stuck a few times on an underpowered/ overweight sled she would come out of it seeing the good of it and be begging to go again. Oh wait, that already happened last year and she's now hounding you to take her again! So you already know she's not a typical girl, however no one else on here knows that! They are giving opinions on what they have personally seen from new women riders. And there is some good advice here, not saying there isn't. Just, it's hard to give advice on someone you know nothing about.... ;) IMO

Another point I'd like to make is here in WA our snow is heavy horsepower robbing crap most of the time.... I personally think she'd outgrow a 600 in a few rides and then you have to mess with/ deal with upgrading whether that be by mods or buying yet another sled. IMO, money ahead by buying a 800. The 600 mods I've ridden may have good top end power, but are missing the low end grunt. Grunt makes things more forgiving, from what I've seen. :)

And for the record, I see MANY peeps come on here every day asking for opinions on crap that they already know all the answers to.............. I think mostly they are looking for justification.... and very few are actually looking for a different perspective.

Again, all MY opinion! ;)
