Sled for GF....

Ok,the GF and I are looking for a sled for her.The three we are considerng are the M8 153,Pol 700 155 or Pol 800 155. Sorry Doo and Yami people, those are the sleds we are thinking of.

I would like to hear from LADIES who have rode these sleds and let us know what you think, good and bad.

She is a new rider but very agressive so I want to have something she will not outgrow instantly. So that rules out 600's...

The sled will be used for deep powder riding. We are looking for a new one or 1 or 2 yrs old.

I'm leaning towards the Pol 700 but they are hard to find for a good price. The M8 is much easyier to get for alot less.If we get one of those we might have money left for upgrades.

What upgrades do you ladies feel help you enjoy riding the most on your sleds?
Thanks for any help.

Well....I'm not a lady, but, I have been with a good number of them so take my advise for what its worth. I would definetly go with the M8 for sure. If she is an aggressive rider it is the chassis and set-up you want. It is a very forgiving sled for a newbie and it is infinetly modifiable and upgradable. You will have a much easier time finding a good price on a used one and you will find a much larger variety of aftermarket parts to go on it especially over any polaris you would buy. The polaris may be cheaper but, that is for good reason. Plus the M8 powerplant makes gobs of power and is the top mountain sled pic for basically every sled magazine out there sooo... just off that I would pick it over any other,plus its an arctic cat so need I say more.:beer;

The Pol 700 are hard to find at a good price for a reason.. But really none are a bad choice. With the economy like it is, I would look for a new holdover from last season. There are a bunch of leftovers sitting around. I have a few friends that have picked up a new holdover sled for a used price...

The newer chassis are excellent for "new" riders. The main thing for set up is make sure the bars are the right height, try some hand guards (they keep the hands warmer I think anyways). Make sure the running boards are cleaned out easily, no snow build up (better boards or like product). I did not want a lefty throttle at all...but I finally got one and it has worked out alright, takes some getting used to but helps in certain situations, No sway bar, narrow up the ski stance.....let her pick the sled, let her test some if possible. Get her good gear, this is very important but I am sure you already know that. This is just a few ideas, I don't have any suggestions on either sled ;). Both seem to have great reports.

I think buying any begining rider an 800 would be a huge mistake. My wifes an aggressive rider also and the body weight makes a huge difference. Her 600 will take her places some guys 800's won't take them. Looking for a 800 for her after third year riding. I think you'll be buying hoods and A-arms.

sorry..my sons 08 600 rmk 155 (484 dry)is 3 pds lighter stock then my 08 dragon 800 163(487)stock...and while I think a 600 is a better first sled(easily modded next year as her ability increases)the D-8 is just as nimble..if not more so...

Mark, I thought your sled was your GF.........now you have more that one?

Richo....Suave

If she outgrows an 07 or newer 600RMK in a year or two, then count yourself lucky cause she ROCKS. My 07 600 could go places and do things that my 03 800 RMK VE could not. And it was almost too easy to carve and sidehill. IF you can find one.
A pipe and a can will put the ponies in line with the 700 and they are easier on belts.
Spend your money on gear and keep her warm and dry. You will both be happier.

if she is going to do a lot of trail riding the RMK is a better trail sled for setting down and riding

Thanks for the replies, for those of you who say only get her a 600...Well,most every new rider I have been with, guy or gal, has wanted more hp after a few rides. When riding powder hp is important for getting out of some places.I think hp actually makes a sled easyier to ride.

Most of the people I know who got 600's for thier ladies end up modding them or moving up within a year and I don't want to have to do that.

I think what we end up with will be what we find a good deal on first, like alot have said there really are no bad sleds out there now.It all comes down to personal preference.

I am only speaking from my experience guiding and watching newbies. Some do great w/ more HP, some don't. HP is important for getting out of some areas, but most new riders should not be in those areas. Skill will get most any sled out of areas that are difficult. Just my .02......

from the few times i have met her, my impression is she is not the type to hold back when ridding.that being said, i would pick the motor/chassis combo that will help her get up and over things that she probably shouldnt be pulling as a new rider.plenty of track and power could save you money in the long run(repairs).....m8 162would be my pic. plus in the used market it has the advantage of being readily available and priced right.

Thanks Mike. Alot of people think a 800 is a high horsepower sled.I don't. I have taken people who have never rode before and let them ride my 1150 and they had a blast.

I know for sure with the way my GF is that if I buy her a 600 she will be begging for more power in no time.

The good thing as I see it is she will be learning and will learn to control the power she will have.I think it actually hurts new riders to be on a underpowered sled that they have to ride with the throttle pinned all the time. Most every newbie I have put on a higher horsepower sled has told me it was easyier to ride the the low horsepower ones.

And the other thing,if I was talking about a new guy rider....Everyone would be saying get a 800 at the min and prob just start with a 1000....I don't play that game,I have rode with many women who can outride alot of guys out there that I see no difference in what sled they should ride. The only thing I see that would help is a lighter sled because of her size and thats why I am looking at 700's and 800's.There really is not any sizeable weight difference to those from a 600.

i'd recomend the m8 there are nimble sleds and easy for women to boondock, they have the power to get them around and are fun all around sleds. i'll hopefully have my g/f on an m8 next year

My wife rides an 07 dragon.
She came off an 01 RMK 700 144.
Night and day. You couldn't dynamite her off that sled. Easy to throw around and runs great. She put 1500 miles on it last season.

Have her ride a 700 Poo 155 and the M8.
She will know which sled to get.

I'm starting to think this guy is joking he knows a ton of girls that can outride any guy and everyone would recomend at least an 800 or probably a 1000 for a first sled if was a guy. Yep he is not serious or maybe it's his first year

Either you're joking or you don't know who AA/AT is.

sorry don't know aa at I'm sure there are girls that can outride most guys but this guy knows lots of girls that outride any guy that means that multiple girls he knows outride all the guys. So the best riders he knows are girls
