Sled Deck on an ECO Boost

How many guys run way more weight than they are supposed to in a 3/4 or 1 ton? Is that safer?

I run a 1 ton SPECIFICALLY to prevent going over-weight or not having enough command of my trailer.

The new ratings on 1 tons are ridiculous too... 25K+ is Semi-truck territory IMO, not pickup territory.

Wow, some of you guys are naive. Sure you CAN throw a deck and 2 sleds on your truck without the frame bending. There's a lot of things you CAN do. Is it smart? No Is it safe? No Is it legal? No

Most 1/2 tons don't have the frame, suspension, brakes etc that a truck rated for that weight does. Not to mention most guys don't even understand GVRW or even tire pressure and ratings for that matter. The ratings of our trucks and the laws are there to protect yourself and other people on the road. It's a safety margin for everyone. It's not a dare for some guys to overload their vehicle and limp it along to get where they're going. Just because you made it to the hill and back doesn't make it safe or right.

Sorry for the rant but I've got better things to watch for on the road then guys who think they are a better driver or know more than the rest of us "naysayers". See what happens when you get in an accident overloaded. It would have been a lot cheaper to just buy the right rig in the first place.

I'm not knocking your trucks, just some people's decisions to put others at risk piss me off.

Give me 80,000 and i'll gladly go to the ford store and pick up a 1ton

A lot of guys don't realize that once you add the diesel option to a 3/4 ton crew cab, your payload is barely more than a 1/2 ton....

Most 3/4 ton diesels with a deck, larger fifth wheel, etc are equally illegal. So either go out and buy a one ton, or a regular/extended cab. Most people aren't willing to change their truck to meet a load they only haul occasionally. So either buy a trailer, or some airbags and 10-ply tires and drive like a normal human regardless of the truck. I personally would put a deck on a 1/2 ton...5.5 bed is really pushing it tho IMO. Too much for me.

I looked these up quickly so that's my excuse if they are wrong.

Not saying you're wrong but the eco crew really stuck out to me and the max I found for it was 1890. The regular cab ford was closer to the 2310 that you posted.

Here is a copy/past from the ford site.

SuperCrew 4x4

Granted it would be heavy and close to the gross weight allowed, of which I'm not overly concerned, but it might be too much hanging over the back of the truck. These sleds are over 11 feet long now... I've got a nice two place enclosed, but I'm looking for options when I have to expand to cover the kids sleds. Thanks for the posts.

I just got rid of my 08 2500 cummins for a new 2012 eco and I love the new truck! Its alot different than what im used to but its growing on me! Lastnight I made a couple changes to my sled deck so it would fit in my 5.5 box! I thought it would be awesome to run the deck on this truck, after putting it in the truck i didnt like how it looked and how it made the truck sit! If i got airbags that will help a ton. So in all i decided to take it out of the truck and sell it! I guess i dont like the idea of a sled deck in a half ton. Kinda looks funny too!

I grew up in the era before duallys. When we pulled 26 foot steel goose necks loaded with livestock with out the tire technology we have now!

I run one on my max tow Eco with Firestone airbags under it, rides like a champ!
As stated above, not every half ton can approach the same load rating as the Fords. And the air bags will technically add to the load rating!

The 3/4 tons of 10 or 15 years ago had about the same load rating as my Eco!
I would rather have the weight of my load over my wheels on ice, as opposed to a trailer whipping around!

Saw a ford eco supercab with the midget box running a deck with 2 sleds on Monday on I90 headed west. Looked funny, but was getting the job done. I would not do it though...Of course I saw this as we were headed back east from a week of riding, pulling a 24ft enclosed, 4 sleds, all the gear, cab full of people w/ supercrew 5.0 6.5ft box and cruise at 80:face-icon-small-dis

Out 2 sleds on my 2011 f150 5.0 this weekend and it worked fine no issues at all, actually worked way better than exected, I do have the 6.5 box and airbags tho
