Ski-doo xp.....terrible !!

Love my XP

That is odd that you hate your XP. I am a Polaris man that decided to try a 09 800XP 163 this year. I came off a solid runing 800RMK, and this XP is unbeleivable. Every time I climb with it I am impressed. My clutching is great, I am always pulling 8200RPM. 150miles on first belt. I also hate all that power and flotation as it takes me to the top.

09 Xp 800, 300 miles in the mountains, belt still perfect, started out a little down on power but after about 100 miles it rips. If you have never been on one it takes a little bit to get comfortable but after a day or two you get on a different sled you will want it back.

470 miles of mountain riding, 100 or so trail miles, cord just started show.
Had a problem with it going fat just as I needed the power most=stuck, happened several times. Read on here that the solenoid for the DPM might be sticking, removed to see if anything might be causing this-found nothing so far.
I'd have to agree with RADICALB, I doo like the ride.:D (you get on a different sled you will want it back.)

XP....POS??????? Huh??

524 miles, 30 on belt 1, put under the hood, the rest on belt 2.
Clicker #3 after 200 mile break in.
Pulling 8100 RPM consistently.
So far top speed "indicated" is 93 MPH (trail obviously)
Have not found a hill that I could keep pulling without backing off the throttle so don;t know yet where it starts to drop off.
Dropped the sway bar, front shocks on setting 1, ( it's an X so has the upgraded shocks)
Rear spring on the second setting, and I pushed up the front skid spring till the skis would dance a bit on the road under moderate acceleration.
I dropped the limiter strap 1 hole ( made longer)
I'm 200 LBS with all my gear.
Stock clutching ( other than the clicker change)

The thing just rocks out of the box. we ride from 2200 up to 7000 feet.

I don't know what the set up was on the rental, but if they messed with it, that's not the fault of the sled, it's the fault of the guys that goofed about with it.

We have 4 XP's in our group, 2 08's and 2 09's, mine is a 09.

The 08's did have clutch issues, but so far, the 09's have been spot on for us. Our dealer does nothing to the setup out of the crate. lock stock, stock.

Sorry you had such a bad experience, I wish you were close, and could ride mine. Might change your mind about them.

Sorry guys thought i could get some good feed back from everyone. I didnt make the post to get all the ski-doo fans mad just wanted to know if i should change a few things or w/e. I was just really mad that i just bought the thing and it really did perform well or anywhere near the competition.

I for one, respect a man with integrity. Hats off to you for telling it how it is. Don't apologize for someone's inability to handle the truth.

if this topic is fo real.there is a shim spacer for non aligned clutches.and a updated clutch bushing for some sticky clutches.check dootalk.com.and for the wheelie stuff, add bricks under the hood:)

i own a 08 xp154 and it is the most nimble, easiest to ride sled i have ever owned. i came off a turbo apex and this machine is ten times the machine the yamaha was. it handles amazingly in the air too. the only bad thing about it is that s*** 16 inch track that floats and hooks up all the way to the top of almost anything you point at!!!! my advice to you is to go back to your groomed trail until you learn appreciation for the best chassis on the market.

You ever get your problem fixed?

actually i found a new dealer out of town that said bring it in monday and your blown belts. he said with 3 belts with cords coming out the left side he knows the problem and has fixed a dozen or so for the same prob. i will post what the problem is when it's fixed.

Wow!

Sometimes I just cant believe how these threads get started. The original post was boarderline ignorant. "too much flotation"? "front end lifting on a climb"? These are things I used to have to tune for with my other sleds and the XP does it out of the box.

I agree stay on the trail and the rest of us will suffer through the light front ends and excelent floatation while bustin the Pow and climbin the bowls.

listen here boys,

just because the sled isn't set to standard doesn't mean im a bad rider anyway, and my polaris is actually turboed, so naturally im not afraid of "speed" unlike you parking lot cowboys I like to ride where my nose will bleed. Now the specific machine I rented couldn't even come close, so when you attack my riding skills to protect your machine it still makes your machine look like trash. 25 million in warranty claims is all I have to say because there trying to drop weight. So when it comes to my skills they remain great on my machine but when I rode the "DOO" it was a standing joke. Its my opinion so don't attack my skills when your garbage fails.

IMO River Rippers.

If you are oh so "knowledgeable" then a guy would think you would "know" better than to rent such a piece of "trash"...
Then both you clowns come on here and post threads bashing XP's.
I'm not even a 'Doo guy, but I just think your approach is all wrong; if you want to ask a legitimate question and have it answered fairly then lose the attitude, if you want to trash the brand then post it in the Polaris thread.
'Nuff said!

hmm. Dragon and M dealers are a bit bitter I think. My friend got an 09 earlier this year, has 350 km with no belt probs. I keep on opening the hood and feeling the clutch, and it's no warmer than on my 05 Summit. I can always touch it with bare hands. But Holy S*** does it climb. It took a bit to get used to the handling, but now I'm totally sold on it. I rode an 08 M8 last year for a good bit of the season, and loved it, but I like the XP quite a bit more now.

I did a trip through Valemont, Revelstoke and Golden. I was riding a 2009 Ski-doo XP800 162 X and it was the worst sled that i have ever ridden. When climbing the front end was so light that it would dart all over the hill. I think this is also because of the garbage 16inch wide track causing to much flotation. We had a m1000, m8 and a 800 dragon in our group and the ski-doo XP was the laughing stock of the mountain. Not to mention the thing went through 3 belts in 6 days because of ski-doos trash can clutch and yes i did break in the belts properly. I'm sorry to pick apart the sled like this but it was the worst sled i have ridden in some time.

Anyone one else have problems with them? Was it just the one that i was riding?

Thanks.

Nah you just have to be smart enough to figure out how to ride...a light front end "darting" around on the hill????? Give me a break. How bout balance man?? You ever learn that. I suppose wen a yammi with 350 horse is wheeling you wouldnt be able to get up a hill with that either. As for belts, set the thing up. And for gosh sake, too much floatation. Where did you ride the bunny hills??

Brad-n-Oberg, (tied them together cause I'm still not convinced you're not the same person)
You both come onto the skidoo forum with your first post ever, bashing the XP. Normally people ask a few questions first, like "should I have changed the limiter strap to keep the nose down, what setting should I put the shocks at for my style of riding," etc.
There is a reason that skidoo outsells the other three competitors combined worldwide, because of their rideability. And if you actually have a turboed sled, why don't you go to that forum to say, "I rode an XP and it was too much sled for me, going back to my turbo."
And "too much" flotation? Are you sure this ain't your first rodeo?

This post may have started from a very frustred Polaris Dragon Rider, whom was really frustrated by the release of the "Flatlander RUSH" model. Love the Polaris guy's, can Polaris copy Ski-Doo anymore and get away with it? Pyramidal frame? WTF, get real make your own design. Let me guess the 600 motor is Direct Injection?
