Searching for my next sled! What do you expect to see for 2010?

I thought the Nytro MTX was the one sled in Yami's lineup for '09 that kept the '08 front end geometry? I know I read it in one of the mags, might have been incorrect info though.

Yup, you were right about this shortstop. The three changes were across the Nytro line not just on the MTX.

I went to the Spokane snowshow yesterday and I could be happy on a myriad of new sleds.

I love the White AC M8 and M1000 Snow Pros and the camo is OK too. The adjustable handlebars are the best thing since sliced bread! The fact that one can gain a bunch of cheap HP with a pipe and a reflash appeals to me.

The Skidoo XP Hillclimbing X model is a force to dealt with and the 50th anniversary summit is sweet and brings me back to my Skidoo roots as a kid. There's really not much left powerwise on the table with the Skidoos. I guess that's good for the plug and play aspect but bad if you are a tinkerer.

The Nytro is a wonderful base from which to build a fire breathing monster if you have deep pockets. I like the feel of the sled but, this time around I'm looking for more of sled thats ready to compete right out of the box (with only a few select mods, and one of them is not a turbo).

The Polaris Dragon 800 is certainly a nice sled too but the one that appeals to me least for some reason? It has nothing to do with the sleds. I think it has more to do with the arrogance of Poo riders I saw for years (especially at grass drags when they were obnoxious when they won even though at the time they out numbered all other sleds racing 10 to 1) and the cult like following Polaris has had for years. It must have tripped some trigger deep in my soul because to this day, for some unexplainable reason I want no part of it.

Weird, the same thing happened when I was going to buy a Harely. I would wave to my fellow bikers on the road and they would all wave back except the Harley guys who never waved back. After a year or two of that I thought, if I have to become an a--hole to ride a Harley. I guess I'll buy something else.

So I bought a BMW adventure tourer and guess what. I'm finding the BMW guys are arrogant too. That makes me want to go buy a KLR650 or a Vstrom so I don't have to deal with the all that "snoot" factor that goes with riding a beemer.

I guess we all have some hard to justify emotional reasons that are very real to us but, oftentimes hard to explain to others that make us buy the sleds we do.

Make no mistake about it. This time I will do my best to leave any brand loyalty at home and just buy the best sled available. Then I'll probably buy the one my wife lakes the best, again. Huh, that's how I ended up on a BMW.

future sled

Sounds like to me that you need to buy an 08 Nytro MTX and put turbo! you would be so happy with a nytro they are awesome SLEDS! Best of luck to you!!

I know what your saying, but you know they CAN do it. How can you just put a Timbersled front end and skid with maybe a light weight seat and have an Apex at or below 550# and Yamaha can't find 50# to shed from the Apex? I'm no motor guy, but the Genesis motor is bullet proof. They must be able to find an extra 25HP out of it!

You're right they can do it, but they won't. Yami is way too conservative of a company to do that.

I think yammis way over built and they dont want do any changes to make their sleds lighter by the way I think Phazer Mtx is a joke:D never so one runing and climbing hills 80hp half ton sled.

It's that darn drop test that makes them so darn tough. Yamaha raises the sleds into the air (I can't remember if it's 10,12 or 15 feet) and repeatedly drops the sled onto a concrete floor. Whatever breaks after X amout of drops they beef up until it survives the subsequent drops without issue.

I know they did this a few years ago but, I seem to remember hearing they may have deleted that part of their durability testing a few years back?

This does increase the heft of their sleds but, also helps to build in durability.

Perhaps Skidoo should use this recipe for durability? I love the weight of the new Skidoos but, I certainly have to wonder about the buletproofness (hey, I just made up a word) of their bulkhead and other front end components.

Love all this speculation, keeps things interesting. Have a new sled I haven't even rode yet and am already wondering what sled I'll order come spring. But I agree, Yamaha makes a very good reliable sled (that's why I bought one) but I sure wish they'd take a little chance to lighten them up. The company has the resources but they are just so conservative. Ski-doo needs to work on setup. I love my XP (when in runs) but am losing confindence in getting a sled that is setup (for the average rider) right out of the box without having to take it back to the dealer every couple weeks. Cat, is making good progress but I have a hard time adjusting to the M-series. Guess I haven't spent enough time in the seat. Polaris, that's another story. For years made awesome sleds. Infact one may say they really developed the mountain sled. However, after being a polaris guy for years they really let me down on a new sled I bought in 2002. That sled spent 8 months in the shop (a month after I bought it) during prime riding and with numerous letters to the company said they would extend my warranty by two months. That was my last polaris. Not to say they don't make good sleds, they do. But after the 2005 disaster, the company lost alot of consumers, me being one of them. With technology we will continue to see leaps and bounds in new stuff and that's one thing that keeps this industry so exciting. Can't wait to see the 2010's!
