SC Apex boost at elevation

How much boost should my guage show on a stage 1 MPI SC above 10k feet with the regular pulley's installed? Seems like it should be 10-11lbs.

10,000 feet on a stage 1 Apex with 26-22 or 27-23 same rpm. You will probably see just under 10 lbs probably like 8-10

At 10k, most of the parking lots here, you'll see 12-13 lbs., if your clutched for higher altitude riding lilke above tree line, you'll drop to 8 lb. range above 11.8k. I think Robrstopr was hittin' the crack pipe.

Oh ya - hurry up and pay the $30 for 3 f'kng years already!

Crack pipe???? My stage 1 always got 8 pounds. Now that I dropped 10k this season and went to a stage II I have yet to see any boost out of it. I sure hope it gets working before the snow melts. I will not be paying for this site until my sled is working. I'm ready to surrender and give up.

Close to 40k and missing another whole season. I'm pretty ticked. Mechanic special for 6k to unload it, and get a UTV....That's my thoughts.

robrstopr I thought you had your sled working great at the end of last season between Heath helping you and TJ doing some work....Where did it all go wrong?

I have been running around 8lbs on my stage 1 this year but I had changed my guage. My old gauge would show 10-11lbs and now I think it was wrong. My sled has worked pretty good all year. I had 2 times where the GEMS got wet and acted up. I relocated it and have not had a problem since. I also carry my spare GEMS in my backpack now.

That's too bad about the stage 2 not working for you. I can't believe it's not something simple. Mine flat out works! What seem to be your issues?

BTW I am seeing 11.9lbs @9,000'. Before i installed the BOV I was around 13-14, but I love the feel of it now w the BOV.

Last season my sled worked almost perfect with only some fuel controller issues. During my last ride of the season at Togwotee I was blowing SC belts, and had a wreck. Since it needed repair anyway I decided to go for the finishing touches. I dropped the sled at Troy's (Lincoln County Customs), in March 09and he did an awesome major workover. Sled is friggin sweet with a new CR tunnel and it finished 100% of the light weight parts. Sled weighs in wet ready to ride around 625. Over 30k to get the sled to this point. In July I picked up my sled from LCC and went directly to MPI and had some SC work done to get more sneaky boost out of the Stage I. Came back to CO and dropped the sled for storage.

October snow fell, and first ride blew two carbon fiber belts in 10 miles. In November I took sled to MPI and found my blower was gone. Deciding more boost was the way to go I dove into the stage II, clutching, upgraded fuel system, and a ton more that Heath installed. Sled was set to run at 18 pounds of boost when I left MPI. No snow in UT so when we hit CO we dropped the sled for a quick spin. No more blowing SC belts, but it wouln't run for crap. No matter what I did it was rich. Decided not to take the sled home, but to take it to Trey at High Altitude Boost. Found the fuel pressure was way high. Ordered and changed out the Yamaha fuel regulator. Didn't work. Ordered an MCX fuel controler. Got the pressure set, but the sled would run rich or lean, never right. Thought the new MPI fuel system was overload so changed it out, not the problem. Did leak down test, motor is 99%...running out of options and I've always had controller issues so Trey contacted MCX who said there fuel control system would work with the SC, so just been waiting for it to show up. Supposed to be here this week, and who knows how long it will take to map it for this elevation.

Anyway I dropped over 10k this season and drove about 30 miles on my SCApex. lol... I think its funny....We haven't had great snow anyway. Plus I'm saving a ton by not riding or taking trips.

Now for the best part of the season. Trey from HA Boost loaned me his MCX Nytro for the past month while he was off working and traveling. I don't know many people I'd trust with my 30k plus sled for a month. I was scared to even take him up on the offer, but couldn't resist. So logged a few hundred miles on a turn key sled, climbed stuff I never could before with only my Stage 1, but hoped to with my Stage II.

Now I'm thinking of trying to pry his sled from him. I'm still planning to have my SC Apex in the trailer, but if this MCX fuel control system don't work....Its gone. I thought of parting it out to recoupe some cash, but now I'm thinking I'd just sell it for 6k as a mechanic special. Maybe someone can make it 100% at a diferent elevation. It definately don't like the CO elevation. Makes me a little sick to lose 30k, but it may be time to start over.

Wow...what an ordeal. Now I am a little embarrased to complain about only getting 8lbs of boost and a wet controller a couple times....Guess I am happy with what I have now! Best of luck getting that sled going.

You're doing well with what ya have. I'd leave it alone until a new fuel controller is out. I went through 4 or 5 Gems over the past 4 seasons. I've had them all work for a while, but the last new one I got just won't work witht he Stage II at this elevation. We park at 10k and go up from there.

I have no doubt my sled will end up running as good as it looks. I'm just frustrated I dropped so much coin to finish her off before this season started and I made major plans for trips all over the West and to head to Yamafest to wreck it with the big boys. Dead bust because of a stupid fuel controller. Once that is fixed/worked out I have zero doubt my sled will run perfect. See I'm hopeful.

Have you had a chance to run it down a bit lower? Say 8-10K. Is there any concern of overspinning the blower at that much boost? What sprockets are you running to turn it up that high?

I was getting 17 pounds instantly at around 7k feet, but not enough ride area out side the shop to test it all the way through the power band. It definately runs better at 7k. Above 10k where we park it wouldn't make 10 pounds before getting to rich to run up.

You'll have to contact Heath about the pully's. I know what they are, but I don't want to give out MPI info that may more than likely burn up your sled. I park at 10k so most riding is close to 11-12k. That's why Heath and Mac agreed to set mine up this way. I was still advised I'd have to change out pulleys to ride at lower elevations or risk burning her up.

Also, ask about their fuel system. I had to add it to handle the added boost.

Another nice feature....They installed the Prologger. That thing is sweet, and will help a ton with fine tunning once I get a mapable fuel controller.

stage 2 superproblems

wow can not believe troy at lcc-tjs cannot help you! Hell man to much to give up now. Pretty sure that it is the controller -wiring. My stage 2 runs great with orignal controller from 05-06 season 4000 miles and going. I have personaly done things with controller and found considerable craziness on fueling that does not make sence dew to injector sizes etc.02numbers close to perfect running powder, hardpack.I know how you feel to put money in and have problems.I personably believe i could help will be in westyellowstone,mt christmas-jan-12. Have tools and extra new controller, clutching etc, heat, roof.
