Rode out of Avalanche (Moved from Mountain/Powder)

Glad you are all right but that is the last thing I would have been laughing about. The sun pounding on that all day, the weather we have had and the ****ty layers, two guys on the same slope, the angle of that slope looked like a perfect avy angle.. hummm. Next time you may want to think about riding out and not down. You got lucky damn lucky. I have never been in an avy and I don't want to be.. so, all that just said is classroom stuff and I would lilke to keep it that way.. I have no desire to talk from experience.

It is good on ya to post that vid maybe peeps can learn from it..Lucky you had a clear run out area...Glad you are not another statistic..I could say a few other comments but I will keep it under my hat for now...

Yea, my thoughts exactly.

you can take every percaution in the world but somtimes things just happen so instead of calling him an idiot how about give him on some tips to access the snowpack. there is always an avy risk unless u ride flat only which then you would have no say at all

first off they were not taking every precaution... 30+++ dead...extreme condtions... not at all in the meadows... backpacks??? and yes there is always a avy chance but this year is really bad worst in at least over 33 years... just plain stupid and the person in this vid is more then lucky but not smart!!
I just cant believe people r out riding these areas!! in good conditions u need to be alert on hills like that.. im not saying you can never ride that just never let ur guard down and not know... come on!!

i didnt say to ride careless, in bad conditions one guy at a time and everyone else stay away from the bottom of the hill. and since (at least around here) we got a couple huge dumps and now its warmed up so avys are gonna be bad for the rest of the year but hey there isnt much flat riding around here so i dont think everyones just gonna stop cuz some dumb ppl try to go where they shouldnt and die

3 ppl got buried and made it out where i go riding, but i also know which hill they were climbing, its steep, long and trees all over it without any good run outs so yes they r stupid but dont call me stupid cuz i still go riding in the hills. if everyone rode with common sense there would be alot less deaths

that WAS a VERY educational video!! Guys- easy on the guy for getting excited at the end- just the jitters and nerves talking... You were lucky to hit the swell at the point you did; a little later and it looks like she would have sucked your front down on landing!!!!

Glad your still breating air; I got educated a few years back myself and was burried most the way down the hill, swimming for my life and thinking "That sure was stupid; now what's my family going to do?" I got lucky also, and was just burried from the waist down when she stopped. count you blessings and give your fam a hug; you cheated death.

oh yeah, and I was the only one with a beeper- at least they would have found my corpse before the griz did:( be smart out there...

Did you honestly just say this? Seriously? No wonder people are getting killed with mental processing displayed in this posting!

what did i say that was wrong.....ya i know theres avy's...but its not gonna make me stop riding i just ride more cautious and pay attention to my surroundings. so since it got warm now its gonna be more prone to avys ur gonna not ride the rest of the year, well at least thats one less person :)

Your a lucky man, too bad everyone that has died in avy's were not so lucky. You better thank the big guy for that i guess it just wasn't your time yet, next time you might not be so lucky so be carefull dude.

Yeah, hopefully one less person! As a god damn statistic. Yeah the snowload is crazy, yeah the avy danger is huge, will i go into the normal area's that are known to slide even on normal years? Hell no, I love to ride, love to climb, love a great day in the hills, but not enough to risk my life over! Theres other places to ride that are much safer, so save the BS.

ur an angry little fellow eh, the hills i ride ive only seen one of the climbs slide in 16 yrs and the other hills around that are more comon i dont even go to when its good conditions. im just sick of everyone saying stay of ALL the hills

They are seeing slides wipe out 100 year old trees this year. Glad your confident in only seeing one in the past 16. You should be safe.

there are slides every year its not a new thing, dont judge me till you meet me and ride with me. most the climbs i do in these condtions arnt very long so no they wont wipe out any 100 yr old trees. but hey around where i live to get to meadows you have to go up so my choice is to ride or not to ride

I will tell you what I see.

the good.
you let the othre guy off the hill before you went up.....that prolly saved his life. you had a hill with easy runout.

the bad.

not one person has a backpack in the vid.

you can see the windload the whole time, even the snow down below shows some serious wind in the area.

there is no structure at all to support the snow.

you cut the whole crown. and then loaded up the area right on top of the rock, where the highest wind load would be.

you rodeyourself into a trap......you could have rode up the gut and angled out, or pulled a tighter loop at the top, but a big side hill is a no no.

pretty sure nobody dug any pits.

I am not gonna judge you at all, but I suggest you get the right gear, training and sense, cause that is as much luck as anyone can have.

good on ya for posting the vid.

Im not an angry person at all D7. Im just sick of everyone dying, when theres already way too many examples to work with on what not to do. So i apologize if i come across as angry.

Spring Snow Hero-

Thanks for the post, thats what I was looking for things he could have done differently.

As far as the guy laughing about it, everyone reacts to stressful situations differently. Some people actually piss themselves when they are in a stressful situation. Your body reacts a certain way alot of times people don't even know what is happening to it. Sometimes you get tunnel vision, sometimes audible exclusion its different for everyone. I wouldn't get so caught up on him laughing. Just my .02.

All the people that say your stupid... Must be flatlanders. I would have climbed that hill.. Not going to sit and look at all the hills that COULD slide hell i might as well just unload and drive straight to the lodge and drink beer then drive back to trailer load up and go home. Now the big ones that will PROBABLY slide yeah stay the hell off.
