Some day, I want to make the ride from Smith's Fork, all the way back to town. When the conditions are a lot safer.

Thanks for sharing your experience and allowing all of us to learn from your experience.

As you can tell from the time on this post I cant sleep. I have read this post who knows how many times this year and each time I shut down angry.

First off I have never read more crap from idiots in my life. I want so bad to cut and copy some of the comments I have read and bash on the fuktards that criticize this guy from any angle at all. I read this post the day it was posted and at least 20 times since. EVERY TIME I LEARN SOMETHING ELSE.
I would personally like to sit down and pick this husband and wifes brains to pieces. I want to do it with all my riding buddies and my wife that I love. I want to ask what it looked like. What did the sled act like right before it slid. Was there any noise that gave any warning. What was he focusing on and such. I see veteran riders climb all the time and never once not a single time have they dug a pit. Not saying that is okay but I wonder how many pits the tards dig.

The only statement that was spot on here is that hillclimbing is like a STD. How many of you tards that bashed on him are virgins. Anyone that criticized the author did nothing but show your stupidity by claiming you could perdict an avalanche from a vid. And what about the roads we drive on to get to our sledding spots. To bad to go to work yet we load up and head to the mountains. But thats okay huh Friken tards

The result of this vid at my house ?
I would have climed that hill without hesitation also. So more trining needed again.....and again........and again
I have arranged to take a search and rescue guy that has years and years of expierence out and he is going to try to teach me a little about this stuff.Snow types and hopefully terrain identification. I have all the equipment air bags shovel beacon probe. Even bought a complete third setup for guests. I like to make sure everyone has the best chance possible. Waiting for BCA to get thier snow ident kit to me. I practice with my beacon in the field next door during the summer and on the hill in winter with my partners. I ride with my abs EVERYTIME I ride. I spend money on saftey first then I buy mods for the sled.

Oh and by the way No matter how bad the decision he made he showed SKILLS GETTING HIS *** OUT SAFE. I applaude the posting of the video and regret that there should be any hesitation by anyone to do so. Just goes to show how perfect everyone is from their couch. Just my 33 cents worth

PS would anyone consider paying me to climb hills on my sled so the tard that justified it "cause they are trained payed pros" will be happy? Never met a nascar driver that wouldnt hock his house to race or a moto crosser that didnt start out cause they love it. Sorry for the spelling its late

Wow.

Looking back do you think you would have thought about or had time deploy an avy pack?

I don't think I would consider deploying an avy pac while I was still in control of the sled. Only if I lost control and was in the avalanche. Does anyone know if deploying an avy pack while driving a sled will hinder your control of the sled? I guess I would of had to remove one of my hands from the sled and wouldn't of wanted to do that at that time.

Next time you're out riding, find somewhere with rough terrain (and then keep in mind, it's NOTHING compared to avy debris that is moving) and try pinning it & removing a hand to pull the trigger. I've given this a lot of thought & tried to imitate it in nasty terrain a number of times & I just plain do NOT see it happening. If people think they'll be at anything but full throttle when trying to get away from a slide, they're confused.

The way I see it is this, I want all the control I can get, I will ride my sled as long as I can, and IF at that point My sled gets overtaken, or I fall off the machine, THEN I'll pull my trigger.

btw, those that are talking about that slide.. that thing was a little baby, he could have ridden down the middle of it & likely been fine. I'm not saying it's a good idea or by any means ideal, I'm just saying that people need some scale, they're talking like this guy climbed some monster face & was right in the middle of it when it went.

I am amazed by all the people out there who openly bash someone for wanting to share/educate the rest of us with an very interesting video. Cheers to those involved with filming that video and weather or not we agree with where he was riding, we all should just say 'thanks for sharing'. Why call him stupid? Sounds like he is a very well educated man doing what he loves with his friends and family. I cant stand 'keyboard jockeys' who are so quick to judge:yell:
Great video bud.....glad your alright and hopefully you'll keep doing what you love!!

I know a lot of people that posted here with "what a dumass" comments I usually only post positive comments, but like i said I personally know some of you guys here and I know at some point you did or do climb hills, avys can happen at anytime even in low risk conditions. I think you all should keep feedback educational and do contructive criticism, becuse that could have been any of us. Anyone that says they don't ever hill climb is a lake rider..

I will tell you what I see.

the good.
you let the othre guy off the hill before you went up.....that prolly saved his life. you had a hill with easy runout.

the bad.

not one person has a backpack in the vid.

you can see the windload the whole time, even the snow down below shows some serious wind in the area.

there is no structure at all to support the snow.

you cut the whole crown. and then loaded up the area right on top of the rock, where the highest wind load would be.

you rodeyourself into a trap......you could have rode up the gut and angled out, or pulled a tighter loop at the top, but a big side hill is a no no.

pretty sure nobody dug any pits.

I am not gonna judge you at all, but I suggest you get the right gear, training and sense, cause that is as much luck as anyone can have.

good on ya for posting the vid.

Man I got lots to learn about hill safety. Need to take avy coarses, do they teach this there? I wear the stuff and have a knowledge of how to use it, but safe riding techniche is obviously lacking.

YES, they do teach that at an avy course. Take a level one course and spend a few hours in the snow with the instructor!!!

I don't think you would have been thinking " this is only a baby slide and I don't have to worried about living through it". The middle of the bottom build up was 10' to 15' deep and is more than enough to kill someone. If I had'nt tried to work my way to the side of the slide I could of been buried beyond anything that could save me.

Escaped one myself a few weeks ago just like you did. Rode through the middle and jumped the wave. Pretty intense!!
