Revelstoke 2012 - 13

Big Fresh!!!

We received a big dump of fresh in the last 24 hrs. 12" to 14" of snow in town, most likely more up top. Forecast indicates more snow everyday for the next week!!!

Nothing like fresh POW!!!!

Anyone go up today? The snow a crows foot was really crusty today and just want to know if revys better?

ice layer

The next day after our big dump of fresh snow, it rained in town and up in the alpine. There is a thick crunchy layer of ice everywhere in the alpine, ..snow is slushy and heavy down low in warmer temperature areas.

This could create a very dangerous layer with poor adhesion for future snow deposits. Hope this doesn't screw our snowpack!

snow update

We rode Turtle yesterday, 3 to 4 inchs at the parking lot, progressively more as we began to climb up the trail. About a foot of fresh powder at the 1st Heli drop. Probably foot and half just before we crossed over to the other side. 20" to 24" of fresh back at Pebble beach, absolutely awesome snow, over the handle bars everywhere.

There is however, that layer of ice, 1/4" thick under all that snow. We did some test pit digs and it made us very nervous. We stayed off all open faces and played in the heavily tree'd areas and open meadows. We will have to watch and see what happens with the subsequent snow falls.

Stay tuned in with the Canadian Avalanche site for updates, dig some test pits for yourself and don't take any chances would be my recommendations.

Powder was awesome though!!!!

a couple pics

A couple of pics of the snow. I just pulled up by the 1st Lake and steeped off for this first pic, it had been flowing over the Honda ever since we crossed over to the far side of the range.

Triple Black ripping a sh-t hooker in the deep Pow!!

Burned all our fuel in 4 hours, we had to leave the pow and sun.

Great day wish we had more fuel.

Been out??

Anyone been out?

We rode on the weekend. There has been no new or fresh this week to speak of. will have to dig into our reserve areas for powder and untracked for this weekend. Some snow/rain forecasted for Saturday, depending on tempos and elevations. No big acculumlations in the 7 day forecast.

Needing a big dump of snow!!!

Generally we have great snow in April, usually warm down in town, grass starting to green up, but great sledding up top. Will have to go up the logging roads for staging, so be prepared to ride on some gravel unless there is a turn around area close to the snow level.

We got about an inch plus of sloppy snow during the early hours this morning, followed by some rain, so there should be 4 to 5 inchs of fresh up top today.

Blasted through the regular riding zone.....Sundays tracks were slightly visible :) Untouched was 2+' of sweet POW. LOw pressure system hitting now so it should be great again with nightly accumulations.
Never a bad day in the Revy area :)

Cheers

Deepest days of the year in Revy. Didn't see a soul on the mountain....
Rhymes with Murtle ;)
Small slabs coming off which is to be expected with the snowload......be safe kids.
