I bet that is a wheely pullin' son of a gun........:D

thanks man, i've been riding realllllllllllllly hard this season to try and get recognized..so that means a lot to me!

i actually got the hood from TRIPLESWILLNEVERDIE here on the forum, but i made the front and side vents.

not sure what pattern it is..looks like he did that swiss cheese pattern in the middle..then on the side did two cross hair patterns then put pet screen/windowscreen material on the backside.

here's a better pic

how do you like the trasher hood? thinking about getting one for my 97 rmk 700

i like it a lot, very very strong..and if you wreck real bad and it bends or something..you just pop it back into place.

only downside is stickers don't stick to them at all....

MMM- I really like that sled.

I've only been riding a few years, well like six. But the first 2 I only got about 100 miles due to a Poo I couldn't throw enough money at to keep running. Finally gave it away, got a cat. 3 years and about 200 miles, always broke down. I would pick it up from the shop, go straight to the mountain, ride a few miles and then drop it back at the shop that night for a few more weeks. Usually towed out. A run of bad luck, for sure.

Last year got a MM, put 2,500 miles on it, fell off at the top of the mountain, max went solo at mach speed and launched into a tree. Spent a few hours digging, then pulled the cord and kept riding. Killed that tree dead though:p and liked it so much I got everyone in the family one and still hadn't spent as much as I did fixing the other busted up POS sleds from my past.

This year put new top ends in all three, stretched one out, simmons all around and still... not even a down payment on a new sled. Works for me. If Uncle Sambo starts passing out new sleds, sure I would take one. Until then, I am a Mountain Max man.

That's what sold me. Oh yea, and it lugs my 250lbs butt everywhere. Heaviest thing about a mountain max, is me.

i've ridden this sled forever, it's kinda my first sled..i mean i had a phazer long track when i was like 5 or 6..but i didn't really ride it ..just down trails and stuff.. this is the first sled i've actually ridden hard..learned everything i know on it.

mine has done the same too..i rolled it down a mountain into two trees then all the way to the bottom and only bent my handguards. last year i jumped off a cornrice and fell off and it took off down the mountain into a 5" round tree and the tree snaped in half haha, then it fired up first pull and i kept on riding.

my dad bought it brand new in '00.. still haven't rebuilt it haha, plannin on a 800 BB this summer though. should run hard.. i'd say watch out 800's but eveyone will get sad that a '01 can compete with their '09's and '10's..

mm700

Best sled ever, of course it does not compare to the new sleds. Made many riding buddies mad when the max goes screaming by a $10k sled.

Mountain max sleds

Scott1 your sled brings back good memories. My first mountain sled was a 97 red MM 700. first trip to the mountains and i was riding some crazy steep hill and lost it, barrel rolled 6 times into 6 end to ends then the bottom. Walked to the bottom, cried but the only thing wrong was i broke my windshield, that sled rocked all weekend w/ ductape. I run a 99 MM 800 mod now, just cant beat the MM.

nice sled neverenoughsnow, i've seen that MM before.. that thasher hood is tougher than nails huh?

how do you like the 800 kit? i'm planning on doing that on mine next year..along with extended chaincaise and 153" powerclaw.

mountain max

Thanks MtnMaxMod. I love the thrasher hood, just like you said if you dent it or something you just pop it back into place. My favorite part is the hood weighs less than 4 lbs. I have really liked going up to 800. I race ported, smooth bored the carbs, and ceramic coated the pipes at that time. It was a different sled with all that horsepower. Then i have been dropping weight wherever i can afford. 68 pounds lighter and growing. Have had some demons the last couple winters, i think i have them figured out. installing new- fuel and oil pumps and a stator. looking to hit the mountains soon.

honestly, people can **** talk these sleds all they want, but they have so much potential it's not even funny. with just a few mods they can hang with if not out perfrom 800's.

and we will see who's laughing at the end of the day when the xp's and dragons and m8's break down..and you are towing them all back to the truck.

Lol, back a couple years, my family had 3 of the mm's. Nothing wrong with them, my dad is still running my old mm. But I do remember quite a few rides when it was the old phazer's towing the mm's out. :face-icon-small-con Pistons, stators, cranks, you name it we probably replaced it at one time or another, lol.

Yeah, they are quite capable of keep up with the new sleds just like any of the edges, etc but they are far from being trouble free. :face-icon-small-hap Now those phazers on the other hand... :face-icon-small-win

I liked mine but sure was glad when I moved on, but to each his own!

Hey MMM, I think i've read about you in the January Snowest mag of the white out & wide open article called "good ideas/bad ideas". In the article Steve said "this one rider tries to show me how his Mt.Max is the baddest thing on the mountain-much better than any of the new snowmobiles"..then he went to talk about his/your homemade snobunjie...I'd love to ride with you sometime...I bet your ProAction suspension is still the best too...:beer;:face-icon-small-coo

not really..i don't think it's the best. i just like to ride what i've got and be proud of what i have rather than complaining about it.

sorry i can't afford a $10,000 sled at age 17 when i also have to pay for my truck, insurance, gas, girlfriend etc.

I have a 2000 mm 700, all the crap on it, pipes, 156, blah, blah blah

had it for 10 years now, never left me stranded, got about 4k on it, knock on wood, I am heading back out west again in two weeks to beat the living crap out of it again

Heck of a good sled and according to everything I have ever seen, they are not know for any issues.

I am going to upgrade to a xp 800,,,,,problem is this

why do I see a chitload of 08's for sale saying "new motor by doo"?
Polaris RMK crank failures are the norm, not the exception
Cat bearing issues in the diamond drive, typical cat, let the buyer do the R and D for them

Ya know what, I may just ride my sled, I certainly dont want to go buy some new 10k machine and have it fall apart on me

To say the MM is the best all around isnt right, the new stuff is nice and light, but, whats the point,,,,,so it is lighter when you have to tow these new sleds back?

I bet you could afford a new sled if you got ride of the g/f...haha

good call..

I bet you could afford a new sled if you got ride of the g/f...haha

haha. i noticed i always have a way easier time keeping my money when im flying solo. hmmm, i think its going to stay that way for awhile:face-icon-small-coo

MM

I bought a MM twin 600 new in 98. I really did not like it maybe because it was a heavy underpowered crap heap. I have seen some 700s run hard but have never personally rode one. I have rode with them and I was never super impressed. I have seen them kick a$$ in grass drags though. I would say that a big bore ultra might be as good of sled if not better. I used to sound just like you guys thinking my 96 Ultra was the baddest sled on the mountain. Then I bought an XP and realized that I was just ignarent to the situation. I am sure you can ride hard but that sled does not compare. You would be a better rider on a news sled. I think you should ride the piss out it save you money and upgrade to a new sled not upgrade your old sled. This is coming from a guy who has been in your shoes. Good Luck
