PRO-RMK -vs- XP ETEC 800 head to head

I have read a number of posts on hp, feel, clutching, power to weight ratios, and chassis performance. The truth will be known when honest folks share their unbiased experiences after going head to head. It seems appropriate to qualify the comparators as follows:

Drag race on the trail/lake -0-60 and 0-80 mph
Top speed
Steep and Deep side by side hill climbs
Average MPG -sleds ridden together and in the same manner for a day
Which sled beeps loudest when in reverse (if you don't even own one you can contribute here!)

Figures don't lie, but liars figure! Let the truth be known! Please share!

I am posting this on the Skidoo XP site also and am interested in the potential bias of opinions.

Pot stirring anyone?....

I have to laugh at the brand loyal inspired bashing.

I bought a Pro RMK (so did my girlfriend) and I (we) love it.

Do I care what a dyno says?..nope

Do I care what it's drag race result is on a trail against other brands?..nope

Do I care if some keyboard hero tells me his machine is better?...nope

Do I care if someone I never met insults me, my machine, my riding area?...nope

All I care about is how I like my Pro RMK. Is it the best machine in 2011? For me, yes.

I'm stoked on it. First Polaris I have owned. Definitely not suffering buyers remorse.

does anybodys pro rmk beep in reverse? i was wondering about this, mine nor my buddies beeps. had enough problems on my M, it beeped and half the time i forgot i was in reverse, with no beeper who knows what could happen!!!:)

if you want an unbaised opinion ask me, just came off my favorite sled ever, modded 07 M8. still feel guilty every time i see the proride sitting in my shop, been a a/c guy for 15 years but this sled was just too good to pass up. have only one 22 mile ride but am very impressed so far. if it doesn't perform up to the hype or if there are any problems i'll be the first to admit it, but so far thats not happening...

a/c is supposed to be doing a midseason release this year, so this sled is gonna have to earn its spot. pm me in march if i'm still riding the poo then you'll have a good unbiased opinion!

let me help your criteria...

Drag race on the trail/lake -0-60 and 0-80 mph
not really a quality I would search for in a mountain sled...

Top speed
also not a quality I would search for in a mountain sled...

Steep and Deep side by side hill climbs
this one works...

Average MPG -sleds ridden together and in the same manner for a day
this one works too...

Which sled beeps loudest when in reverse (if you don't even own one you can contribute here!)
seriously...

lets try again, and then this might turn into a thread worth paying attention to:

Technical Tree Boondocking Performance/Friendliness
Steep and Deep Hill Performance
Ability To Perform & Controlled In All Riding Condition (day to day ridablity)
Butt Dyno
Head To Head Fuel Use
Fun Factor

(anyone else please add criteria as they feel necessary :face-icon-small-coo)

Cant say ive ever heard a sled with P.E.R.C. beep

I must say I wish my PERC did beep on a few occasions. Like right after I've done a kiss of death move on my hood from a stand still. Those who've done it know what I'm talking about :face-icon-small-blu

my xp did, cause i couldn't find the beeper to unhook it. that flashing "R" gives it away every time. don't get me wrong i've checked my hood real close on occasion, but once is enough of a reminder.

not only do you have to remember when you're in reverse so you dont smash your face but you gotta remember to put your scratchers back up... haha wrecked a couple of those oops:face-icon-small-con

Ha! Too funny. Never hit the hood but more than once I been almost impaled by the bars.

What you don’t care if your sled beep in reverse? :face-icon-small-hap
The snow wasn’t that good but we did get a little comparison in.
The Pro won the drag race up a small hill, the new doo out climbed
To Pro in what little soft snow we had. Both sleds are brand new and not
Broke in yet. As far as mph we haven’t had a chance to check yet
But just guessing the MPG looked about the same.

The Pro pulles hard for only having 143 hp compaired to the 163 in the new Eteh,
Polaris has done a good job with the clutching. I know the etec has a chip that
needs to burn in but I was running with the ethonal chip in the Pro.

We can compare 3 sleds from 2006 and you can't get a straight answer on which sled is better, faster, or climbs higher. You think this comparison will be any different??

The bottom line is, there are simply WAY too many variables in mountain riding. Given comparable sleds, the guy who's sled is "the best" is likely more due to his riding style, being more comfortable on that sled, and better maintenence/setup. If you think an extra 10hp or $1000 more expensive shocks is what's holding you back from beating your buddies in the mountains.....you're on glue.

Boondocking ability is #1 in my book....

Floation #2

"Giggle" factor #3

Ease of manuverability #4

Quickness #5

Hillclimbing #6

Durability #7

....could give a ratt's *** about fuel/oil consumption, ride, drag racing, etc...

I guess the comparison should be pretty equal though right? Would you consider a 154" x 16" to be equal to a 163" x 15"? If I do the math correctly, the Scud still has a slight advantage in track on the snow. Been a while since I even looked at a Scud so I don't even know if they still build anything longer than 154". Just thinking out loud.

Scud

Scud still makes the 163 or whatever it is. i rode with one last year and it was hard to stick but long long.

The ONLY way to really compare Apples to apples is put the same track on all sleds, park all at bottom, and have the SAME rider take each one up the hill. Then you will truly know the best climbing machine.

Agreed. Good luck with that.:face-icon-small-ton

This is a pretty good indication to me what the market thinks about the new pro...this from a very small sub-set of the overall market I know...but these are the facts as I know them;

1) My riding pal, who has been so against ever riding a Polaris - to the degree of trying to mountainize an F7 AC several years ago and has since ridden Ski-Doo ever since, did the unthinkable...he is now the proad owner of a brand new siler Assault. He feels guilty and doesnt want to face his Ski-Doo dealer...

2) I took a call from another of my Ski-Doo riding buddies who has indicated to me that he is trying to sell his 09 Doo and buy a Pro...now this guy is close personal friends with his Doo dealer...

3) Have another friend making the switch who is coming back to Polaris

What does this have to do with this thread?

I guess the point is..maybe that E-Tec might out climb the Pro - I just dont know (In my experience it will be the first Ski-Doo to beat my Polaris climbing stock for stock - albeit I pipe my sleds)......but the basic fact of the matter is, people see that platform, and they want to own it!

People want to own the Pro, they want to ride the Pro...and that is what makes it exciting...no whether it will out sprint the E-tec
