PRO-RMK -vs- XP ETEC 800 head to head

I'm not brand loyal but I bought a Pro RMK.. and I love it.

How insecure are other brand buyers right now that they are trolling the Polaris Pro RMK threads looking to make themselves feel better about their purchases?

I'm stoked on my Pro RMK. I don't need any third party verification.

I'm sorry for those that didn't buy a Pro RMK.

Feel free to bash flame away.....

It just makes me feel sorry for you.

I know a guy who bought a new pro and a new ski-doo not the e-tec though he says the pro will walk all over the ski-doo and is a much funner sled to ride i have not witnessed but dont think he would be lying as he owns both sleds

does anybodys pro rmk beep in reverse? i was wondering about this, mine nor my buddies beeps. had enough problems on my M, it beeped and half the time i forgot i was in reverse, with no beeper who knows what could happen!!!:)

if you want an unbaised opinion ask me, just came off my favorite sled ever, modded 07 M8. still feel guilty every time i see the proride sitting in my shop, been a a/c guy for 15 years but this sled was just too good to pass up. have only one 22 mile ride but am very impressed so far. if it doesn't perform up to the hype or if there are any problems i'll be the first to admit it, but so far thats not happening...

a/c is supposed to be doing a midseason release this year, so this sled is gonna have to earn its spot. pm me in march if i'm still riding the poo then you'll have a good unbiased opinion!

Nice. Thanks for the post and feedback.

Are all you Poo dudes smoking the same exhaust? If the Pro was 165 HP that is what you would talk about. This thread was to compare two sleds. It was posted in both areas. Ski-doo guys are comparing them. Like it or not. You guys talk about beepers. Sounds like you guys like pots with no stur sticks.
Here is another stupid Poo remark. Announcement: DO NOT POST SWAP MEET ADS HERE. INCLUDES PARTS WANTED, FOR SALE, SLEDS, "HOW MUCH IS IT WORTH"

Anyone klick on this and read MOUNTAINHORSE's second post? He is selling his buddys sled in an announcement telling you not to sell your stuff. Sorry not impressed.

This is a pretty good indication to me what the market thinks about the new pro...this from a very small sub-set of the overall market I know...but these are the facts as I know them;

1) My riding pal, who has been so against ever riding a Polaris - to the degree of trying to mountainize an F7 AC several years ago and has since ridden Ski-Doo ever since, did the unthinkable...he is now the proad owner of a brand new siler Assault. He feels guilty and doesnt want to face his Ski-Doo dealer...

2) I took a call from another of my Ski-Doo riding buddies who has indicated to me that he is trying to sell his 09 Doo and buy a Pro...now this guy is close personal friends with his Doo dealer...

3) Have another friend making the switch who is coming back to Polaris

What does this have to do with this thread?

I guess the point is..maybe that E-Tec might out climb the Pro - I just dont know (In my experience it will be the first Ski-Doo to beat my Polaris climbing stock for stock - albeit I pipe my sleds)......but the basic fact of the matter is, people see that platform, and they want to own it!

People want to own the Pro, they want to ride the Pro...and that is what makes it exciting...no whether it will out sprint the E-tec

I guess if all your buddies want one they must me pretty awesome.....LOL.

It won't be so "exciting" if they don't perform.

I think it looks like a sweet ride but I am still waiting for my apology from Polaris for the 900 RMK, its probably going to be a while.

Do you really think they're gonna call you up on the phone and say "We're sorry!"? Probably not, but they are making a serious effort towards making the best production mountain sled available. Not trying to make a claim here, just saying they know they screwed up, they heard you and they have now delivered the Pro. If you can't accept that, then go get a bottle of Jack Daniels and some pretzels and keep sobbing in the corner.

These days the snowmobiles are so close to being the same thing that IMO its 80% rider and 20% sled +,- a few numbers either way, but if you cant get up a hill like your buddy can cause of "oh well my sled is heavier by 10 lbs and has 5 less hp thats why i couldn't do it." wrong i've seen a guy on an 01 800 RMK 151 out climb a guy on a 09 D8 155. So many people think that if i buy a new sled it will make me a better rider some people should go ride around on a 1995 indy 500 or some other heavy sled that doesn't maneuver that weighs a ton and learn the basics in how to maneuver a sled. Just venting a little bit but im sick of all the idiots out there and their stupid theorys. You buy a sled cause its what fits you best and what you feel most comfortable on or cause its what the only dealer in 70 miles sells :face-icon-small-hap. But now im done with my rant HAPPY RIDING!!

I agree WFO after buying the 05 rmk900 I'll never buy a first year sled again....

Funny I've been waiting for my apology letter as well to add it to my stack of safety recall letters for the 2005 fiasco....

I would love a pro rmk with a turbo. Shain was by with his twisted set up and it launches!!!

Sweet ride but can't imagine buying side pannels for that sucka will be any cheaper than the ones in the past.....

I sure hope this sled works out for everyone and is the real deal and history doesn't repeat it self....

Mountainhorse is not perfect but he brings a wealth of info to us and spends alot of time researching products and if the world was full of people like him are lives would be even better than it is today. Just my observation.

Agreed-there is risk buying a 1st year sled so buyer beware. That said, most of us want the latest and greatest so take the risk. Polaris has developed a testing philosophy that should bring better products to market. A lot of old time Poo guys got the boot at corporate after the 900 fiasco but that doesn't help those that bought one.
Reese (WFO) takes a lot of time to remind everyone year after year, some of us let our "get back at them" mentality go a little sooner. I did the same thing on DooTalk for a year after Doo burned me with an even worse product than the 9...the 07 Summit.
Anone that thinks the Mfct'rs are loyal is sadly mistaken. They perform on issues past warranty-only when it's better than a lawsuit or when it's good for business. Of course as always that's just MO!

Edit-Also agree MH is a very valuable member and is only following the rules with limiting the ads. SW lets dealers post and of course you can use your signiture line to "sell" but that's SW not MH.

There isnt enough snow to really compare the two. So I dont understand the trash talk. Yesterday at the cabin we lined them up on the flat in 2 feet of powder and i smoked the etec every time. but both sleds arent even broke in yet so that may make a diff. Also i was surprised that my pro smoked my bro inlaws iq 8 with a pipe by 3-4 sled lengths easy. Ii will admit that the eterc feels like it pulls harder but when lined up the pro walks away. out of the whole they hold together pretty good. The mid range just pulls away. i understand that this isnt a powder hill climb comparison but the snow levels dont allow that yet so we will see. oh and by the way those that say that the pro feels like the xp are high because i rode both back to back and ther is no comparison. It feels like the iq but lighter and suspension is awesome compared to the d8. love the sled. also my buddy loves his new etec he is just hoping after the full break in that it wakes up but mine may wake up as well after full break in.:face-icon-small-hap

Ron......I am guessing you never owned a 900 RMK for more than a few weeks. That is the only way you could even imagine it was not worse than the '07 summit. There were nearly 40 recalls/updates for the RMK and some of them were out before the sleds were even at the dealerships.

Also, it's not a "get back at them" mentality if all your really asking for is a straight out admission of a FUBAR and a formal apology. I couldn't care less if they became the most powerful company on the planet, I just choose not to get involved. The reality is that few people who didn't buy a 900 really know how bad Polaris porked the customers and the dealers, that's why I choose to remind them. There were dealers that lost thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars, and all polaris did was tell them they needed to order more.

I get that 900 owners are pissed (especially the guys that snowchecked one). But...I am on my 2nd first year Polaris snow check, and so far so good. I did the D7 and now the Pro Ride. I also had the D8 in between. I'm not brand loyal and will buy anything that I think is worthy of my money. The D7 was absolutley awesom and the Pro Ride (on ride 6!) seems to be the best sled I've ever ridden. I see that the 900 and Edge 800 cranks but a bad taste in several peoples mouth, but it's time to move on. If Polaris said "sorry" would that really do it?

I figure that the eTec XP and the Pro Ride are the best sleds out there. I know the M8 is proven and reliable, but it is old. We are all 4M talking but I'm sure both sleds will hold their own at different times depending on who is in the saddle - AND who is making the tunning changes.

Here in idaho we have some spots with deep snow already and my buddy went with a group last saturday that had 2 pro's and 2 new etecs. He said the sleds were very close to each other climbing in the deep and really depended on the rider.

WFO, are your comments aimed more at the '05 900 or both years ? The reason I ask, is my '06 900 has been a great sled. It's never let me down. Sure I've had to do some repairs over five years of riding it, but I've never had a ride ruined because of it. On the other hand, one of my riding buddies has an '07 Rev 800 that I just recently helped him install engine #3 as well as a complete wiring harness. Since day one that sled has suffered with engine and electrical issues as well as clutch problems.
