Pro-rmk coolin?

Only problem i have with the sidekicks is the carbide tip always bends out making it not dig..

Has anyone had this problem, or a fix to this problem?

-Matt

Matt, have you tried the regular tips. I sell both. I have sold a lot of sidekicks this year.

I would test your flap for you.

Later
Randy

Paul- I wasnt aware there were more that 1 option for tips. Maybe that will fix it as i do like the fact that they dont break!

Anyone still riding wanting to test the new Pro RMK flap, please PM me so i can save your username in my inbox and i will let you all know once they have been shipped. (Im hoping within 2 weeks)

Thanks guys!

Standard Tips (not the carbide ones)

Has anyone ridden the std RMK and the Pro side by side on a hard packed trail to see the difference? Those of us who live on the west side of the Rocky's can see the need for more cooling on the PRO, A lot of us have snow parks located at lower elevations and have to ride from 2 to 5 miles or more on frozen
trails to get to the good stuff.I for one would not mind the extra weight of the
front cooler if it would make enough difference.

I have The Rmk 155 my buddy has the Pro 163 one area we ride from the truck till you get in the trees is always really hard packed snow that or snow frosted dirt. On that surface the pro will make about 100 yards further with the scratchers the rmk has no scratchers yet. but then we both stop at 150-160 dg and shovel snow on the tunnel to cool them off. If it's just us going and we hit it hard we usually don't have heating problems at all but if waiting on others and going slow we do. Now if their is any snow for the track to pick up then nether machine has had heating problems most of the year pro always has scratchers down.

That was until our last ride in spring snow where the snow was wet and heavy the type that the top 2" was soft enough to leave a track in and what was below it was like a concrete slab but the track really wouldn't pick it up and throw it very well. The pro ran 150 all day he was shoveling snow on the tunnel constantly and the rmk ran 125 (with out shoveling snow) the pro had ice scratchers down but they made no difference in that snow.

It was also a warm day which didn't help things.

so from what I'v seen the pro dose ok until spring running scratchers.
The rmk needs scratchers for really hard stuff (ice) that the track can't brake up.

most of the year in good snow the pro runs 120-125 and the rmk runs 115-118 although I have seen both machines hit 160 that was from riding to slow for conditions.

The Pro does have a cooling issue in certain conditions-much more related to load and ground speed than snow depth for sure. They flash up quick on those lovely whooped out goat trails up through the trees when you can't run at 25+ mph-if the snow is wet at all, a blip of the track here and there doesn't do much to help (which is about all you can do in those situations.)
We custom build mini u-coolers for both the IQ and Pro chassis and these coolers coupled with a GOOD snow flap (not short, stubby and full of holes) and your stock ice scratchers will keep coolant temps in check in these situations. If you are seeing 180+ degrees on a regular basis, you are taking life off of your engine-guaranteed. Just because it doesn't seize, doesn't mean you aren't hurting the old girl!

Our Pro cooler requires you to Tig weld the billet nipples we supply onto the existing square crossover tube at the rear of your tunnel. We could also build you a cooler for the front of the tunnel (under the fuel tank) and it could be T'd into the existing system under the hood as an option.

Our IQ cooler does not require any welding since the crossover tube is round, we can clamp the hoses right on to it.

The price varies based on the length of cooler you need for your application but typically around $300.00-330.00 for the cooler kit.

This is also a great upgrade for turbo owners , some of whom experience high temps in the spring under high load.

We are working on our product store currently on the website so I attatched a couple of pics here for you all (the Pro cooler includes a pair of billet hose nipples not shown here)

Please feel free to call anytime if you have questions!

Icemanmg, you must have talked to Justin this morning-glad he was able to to get you the info you needed and thanks for calling!

Let us know how it works out and if we can help anymore!

I dont hav the pro yet...I 'am snowcheckin one and wondered if the pro-rmk had coolin problems before i ordered it. So as u can see by my one little question how this thread ballooned. I like to cover all bases before I find out and i'm surpised. I'm still snowcheckin the pro-rmk retro. I do not like any of the rushes or the sb assualt (same rear suspension I had since 2001) just different shocks. So if I have to order a cooler to have the sled I luv that's what I will do.

Funny, I never really ever heard much about it until after I snowchecked mine.

Me neither...till I saw a couple posts of some sayin it was a issue. So then I thought I would start a thread askin if there was a coolin issue. Well u then saw what happened...:)

. Nice Thread!!

The Carbide Bits seam to catch on more things. (the Flat front side). aka Bridges, Sharp Rock Edges Etc..

The cheapest way i have come up with

Cut a Exhaust Clamp in Half

Part ##

733-3212 is 2 1/2 Clamp.. Pretty Cheap $$2

Plus your time to cut.. Priceless!!

The rounded shaft of a bolt seams to catch less IMO.. You can resharpen the tips front angle..

O Just about Forgot..:loco:

DON"T FORGET RED LOCITE!!!! on the Threads!!!:face-icon-small-hap

Just got the drawings out to get the dies made today.

We increased the pitch of the flap which should shoot more snow back in the tunnel as well as a solid flap with no holes.

If we get the dies back in time, we could use a couple testers to try it out.

Anyone interested?

-Matt

I'll be trying one.

FWIW, since I'm not a huge fan of the P-Tapers, like the brake, tho, I'll more than likely buy a 2013 RMK STD a year from now, assuming same cooling as 2012 RMK STD (big assumption), and move the Fox shocks, clutching, Boss seat, rack, (and new flap?) etc., from my Pro to the 2013 STD. I have a hunch the price will be much better on the STD, it will all depend on warranty offers in 2012 for 2013's, if the motor and chassis is close to the same. Just M2C's. I do like the STD color for 2012. Maybe poo will put some updated controls on the 2013 STD, too. If I was buying a 2012 now, it would be a STD, but only because I swap shocks, anyways.

What is wrong with pro taper bars?

Put 1200 miles on a Pro RMK 800 155" this year in MICHIGAN and yes the sled runs HOT in low snow conditions. As long as there is SNOW under the sled drop the ice scratchers and you'll be fine. If you plan on running the sled like a 50/50 sled you should consider the Assault Switchback. We ride 90/10 Off Trail/Trail so the Pro works great for me.

I have seen 195 going up some bumpy cow path, I wonder if thats why the crank bearings are failing on some of the motors and it runs 155 down the trail with 4 inch of fresh,, I wish I could see temps in the 120s I wonder if I have a bad thermostat??? and the ski scratchers make sence to me gonna get them now!!My turbo D-8T on boost rarely sees 140 I think its the powerclaw I have under it!! Does the flexable scratchers work was gonna try them on the skis and rails at the same time I have broken the rail ones twice!!Yes IM old and forget thay are down,,LOL

In POW my sled runs 123/125 all day long, I've seen 202 riding with the family in low snow going slow. Hit 195 a month ago on a road that was plowed down to dirt all season and had no choice but to run it for a mile and half. Hit the end and back on the snow, dropped the scratchers and in less then a 1/4 miles it was down to 140 degrees. This sled weights 431 lbs and is THE highest performing mountain sled to date IMO. With that you have to be conscious of the temp much like if you were riding a trail sled in the mountains. You would want to keep the trail sled in other tracks and stay off the steep stuff.

If you never saw temps in the 120's I'd say something isn't right.

yes they suk I have to ride with the scratchers down even in the powder!! am going to install a center cooler from fastrax this summer and mabe a sno flap extension, or a powerclaw, they throw lots of chit out the back mabe with a longer flap it will get up on the coolers, mabe adding a RMK cooler also!! scared to turbo it the way it is

I call bull****. My assault does fine on the trail and if it ever does get warm i take a dip of the trail and put my scratchers down. my pro cools better than my 05 900 rmk, 05 racer with a 600 or 800, and as well and probubly better than my 09 dragon.

My sled runs 118-132 all day long. may get up to 145 on the trail. Hottest it has been was 205 when i blew a hose coming off the resivoir and didn't know it. It did get up to 160-170 when i was towing my friends sled out on about 5 miles of trail.

No bull... Run the scratchers and run a snowflap without holes in it...The previous model years back to the edges snow flaps rivet right on...direct replacement. BIG difference in temps.
