Pro-rmk coolin?

We've been working on a non ported flap for the RMK that will be available for next year.

Ours wont be $20, but will be a heavy duty lightweight option for the RMK.

I use your race flap on my mod Gade and it rawks! Too long for mtn riding tho but I'm thinking a version like that for the RMK where I'd use it in fall and spring and go back to stock for mid-winter deep snow riding. Fasten with those allen head screw alternatives to rivets so you can easily swap back and forth.

Have FUN!

Any of the recent polaris snowflaps are a direct replacement for the PRO.

It DOES make a difference in temps to use the flap with NO holes in it on hard pack/spring snow.

I had mine overheat on a rock hard cold trail ride into a play area. yes scratchers where down. also had very high temps pulling out a sled. very bumpy and a slow ride. these sleds whenn hot will go into a limp mode. use the key and it clears it. versus the kill switch.

I have seen 195 going up some bumpy cow path, I wonder if thats why the crank bearings are failing on some of the motors and it runs 155 down the trail with 4 inch of fresh,, I wish I could see temps in the 120s I wonder if I have a bad thermostat??? and the ski scratchers make sence to me gonna get them now!!My turbo D-8T on boost rarely sees 140 I think its the powerclaw I have under it!! Does the flexable scratchers work was gonna try them on the skis and rails at the same time I have broken the rail ones twice!!Yes IM old and forget thay are down,,LOL

HOLY HOT BATMAN! yeah id be bringing that back to the dealer and have them figure out what is wrong.. with 4 inches of fresh even with the scratchers up you shouldnt see temps that hot (also depends on your speed to).

running hot

From what I've read, the base RMK's still have a front cooler. Maybe a good reason to NOT get the PRO over the base RMK. Only other differences are shocks and handlebars. What is a "normal" operating temp for the PROs? I know when I first drove my 08 D8, I thought 120-130 degrees was pretty low.

Only thing is...you cant get the 163" in a Std Rmk.

Using an IQ snow flap goes a long way towards keeping it cooler.

Otherwise.... The FasTrax add on tunnel coolers are the way to go... but you will need some fab/welding skills to install it.

reading through the post a few guys mentioned ski scratchers. I'v actually never seen a set so am curious if they make much of a difference. It also got me thinking I used to ride an old 500 Polaris as a kid that had plastic ski skins. We replaced the skegs on it with some that weren't made to fit so their was an extra hole in the ski right behind the skeg. Running straight down the trail it would create a perfect 1/2" dia column of snow that was aim'd right at the coolers. That was when polaris had the cooler under the front of the running board. So long story short I wonder what a properly placed 1/2" hole would do drilled in the ski for cooling not only would you loose weight you wouldn't be adding it by adding scratcher.

The only disadvantage I remember is on certain maneuvers that column of snow would hit you right in the face, but hey thats part of snowmobiling.

I think I will duct tape it closed to try it first,, I was actually thinking extension on the bottom, I watched as my son rode the sled and the snow goes out the back just below the flap

You are right the flap needs to be extended some how, I put the regular flap on with no holes in it- no difference and then I followed another PRO- RMK, the snow goes out underneath the flap, it needs to be longer on the trail and shorter in the powder. Wish I had the bulkhead cooler off the regular RMK.

you have it dead on, 195 or deto, if you don't have your scatcher down on hard pack whooped out trails, I did not care for the flexable scratchers as they did not kick up enough snow, and when you love trees the way I do they seem to break off at the crimp, two sets destroyed. Simply remember not to back up with the ridgid type or its a 35 dollar fee for being forgetfull. One needs to remember these are deep snow machines. If you ride a lot of trails get the RMK with the front exchanger, it will suite you better.

Definately an issue. I rode my wife's, with scratchers down and running fast, and it went as high as 184. No way she could keep it cool since she goes slower up the trail. She had it almost to 220 one day. I finally had to take it from her and it ran 168 for me. I always ran scratchers for hifax. Never had a sled that was this easy to heat up. Once in the powder it will run 123-125. havn't been out on any warm spring days. They will probably be really bad. Polaris screw up!

Mine runs 128 in the pow all day long. Starts to heat up within 300 yards without the scratchers when you hit the trail. Scratchers down will drop almost immediately IF the trail is hard. And it will really drop, to 128ish, if the trail is hard. If it's soft with blowaway fluff like you get in Jan, early Feb, I've seen 170+ with the scratchers down, only solution then is to hit some real snow for 50 yards or two to get it in the 140's. I've ridden with a non-dragon 2010 CFI4 800 all season, and it will never seen over 130 in same conditions, just never, puts scratchers down for slider lube only. Bottom line - the coolers are too small. Be wise to add a cooler if you turbo. Gonna try a different flap or two next season, or make my own. Never had a sled that bounces the temp like this. Not even the 600ho rotax, which is another hot runner.

What he said... EXACTLY!!! Polaris needs to WAKE UP - we'll gladly take another 10 lbs of weight for front and rear bumpers and coolers that actually work!!!

Have FUN!

They didn't go to sleep, they offer a standard RMK with the 10 extra pounds you are asking for with no overheating issues. The Pro is designed as a balls out mountain sled, and I love it that way. Up until last week I was going to buy another assault for my wife, but after spring riding, i decided to by her a standard 800 and order aftermarket shocks because of the cooler.

Has anyone ridden the std RMK and the Pro side by side on a hard packed trail to see the difference? Those of us who live on the west side of the Rocky's can see the need for more cooling on the PRO, A lot of us have snow parks located at lower elevations and have to ride from 2 to 5 miles or more on frozen
trails to get to the good stuff.I for one would not mind the extra weight of the
front cooler if it would make enough difference.

You can buy the front cooler and hoses from the Base RMK and install them on a PRO. The cooler itself is kinda $$$ but would work.

You guys are making me want to change my snowcheck!

I'm starting to feel the same way. Living in Michigan I only get out west a couple of times a year. I boondock the deep snow in the U.P a couple of times and then boondock and trail ride the rest of the time. I wanted the Pro for the shocks, Protapers and other light weight goodies but now starting to wonder.

An extra 10 lbs for parts that actually work (c'mon now - you actually like the worthless bumpers?) is hardly going to make the diff between "balls out" and not! The shocks are a different story but marketing sure works on some. FWIW Doo wizened up with some of their blunders and now the XP is heavier and BETTER as a result; at least one manufacturer learns from their mistakes!

Have FUN!

PS - I couldn't get a 4 yr warranty on a standard version so...
