Power to Weight Ratio: Four Stoke vs. Two Stroke

Not buying the claim of a stock Viper outdoing the Pro in the deep...

I can help with pictures...

'14 SkiDoo stuck in powder... Pro, not stuck

'14 Arctic Cat M8000 LE, stuck in tree hole trying to follow Pro...

Live in mountains, ride Colorado dry powder. I would like to see a Viper out but don't bother riding places like Grand Mesa where they must hang... Not from Nebraska:face-icon-small-hap

you are such a retard ,if you think you are all that & where you ride nobody else but burant can, bring your candy a$$ to revy. during a big snowfall & see how many heavy over weight turbo yammies beat you all day long.:face-icon-small-sho
oh but that's not fair it has a turbo:der:
it just amazes me how many of you wannabes, want to save us from these horrific sleds. you go out of you way to bash something you have not rode.i don't care what you think this sled will do,i don't care what your pro weighs,i don't care what your opinion is because you have never rode one,oh & iam 100% sure every guy that bought one don't care what some guy riding a poo pro thinks about his new yamaha viper:face-icon-small-dis

if half of you winy bioches would put the effort into keeping riding area open that you do bashing Yamaha sleds there wouldn't be any closed areas.

Now that's awesome!!! Lol I feel the same way!! Because you know if burant was riding Yamaha everyone would be to. Lol I wish I was completely wealthy I would attempt to do what burant has done but with all Yamaha's!!!

I think this guy knows how much of a tool he is his user name is toolbag so he has already labeled himself!!!!!

I suspect his former username was banned. At least his former username does not appear here anymore. And DPG has now become BigBobs Backcountry....hard to keep track of Viper bashers without a program.

But if pics are proof here is my proof! My mini z is LIGHTER than a Pro, that is poo bragging points right? And look how fast it is in the pic it is ahead of the 700 triple Mountain Max!!!! You need no other proof than my pic!!......trust me!!

Oh Go pound sand you piece of s***. I hope you put your money where your mouth is. I'm from Nebraska and I will see you in a couple months. Maybe we can ride together and become friends, but most likely with your "professional" mentality we will still be "enemies".

What is it about the power and ability of a boosted 4 stroke yamaha sled that drive the 2 smokers absolutely bat crazy?

Like a moth drawn to a flame.

They just can't seem to help themselves when these discussions come up. they have this overwhelming compulsion to fly into the fire, even if in the end it consumes them and leaves them burned.

Poor guys.
Gotta feel bad for them.
They get sooo close to the truth, but crash and burn in the process.

do you think there's a chance any rental places will have the new mtx for rent WITH TURBO installed? i would spend $250 for a day of riding to see what they're all about. i would never buy one without riding it first, and i dont know anyone that has one. all i have ever done is watch the crazy SOB's with older yami's climbing chutes, i never see them in the trees. but i wont judge until i can throw a leg over one.

i should also say that i weigh about 275 lbs. so, theres already a fat azz on the sled. if i get "too much of a sled" under me, id imagine i will eventually turn into an anchor :help:

I agree, we already had a Viper converted to mountain last year but I wanted to ride the turbo. Went to South Dakota to the Yamaha demo and rode several. I have had 3 different boosted Yamahas in the past to compare too FYI. What amazed me was the MPI turbo on the demos power curve was so smooth you could not tell it had a turbo.....smooth power all the way up.

Past sleds the Supercharger would take off and try to pull your arms out of the socket. Turbo (not MPI) sled I had did the ok here we go then VROOM....which was not as much fun in the trees.

Bottom line, I am on the MPI list for 180hp turbo.

Turbo Rentals are FAR and FEW between!

Mine has been in for a week but no T yet, but the first upgrade installed at the dealer with the T is the MPI lightweight muff. Can't wait for the track stand and water hose with a cold beer in hand listening to it HOWL!:)

After reading this thread, heres my stance. I have been looking at a new sled and the good reviews about the Pro's is very appealing. The weight of the Nytro's/Viper's can make people shy away. For me, what it comes down to is riding time. How good does your sled climb if your wrenching on it or if its at the dealer? You CANNOT beat Yamaha's reliability when it comes to their stuff. So what if its heavier, sack up. Hit the gym. Guys have had plenty of issues with the Polaris 800's, then slap a turbo on that? Yikes... After reading & doing some research on these issues, I'm sticking with Yamaha. A Pro RMK might beat a Yamaha up the mountain, but the Yamaha would beat it across the entire mountain range & back. For me, thats what I look at. I'm buying the sled to ride long term, not wrench. Just my .02.

HA! Good point. That Pro don't dangle too much when it's at the dealership getting warranty work done.

Just throwing my $0.02 in because I feel it hasn't been mentioned in this rediculous thread that has morphed into what should be titled "yamis are heavy".

This is about power to weight ratio of 2s to 4s. It's a given that apples to apples the 2s is better, NA or boosted, weither you want stock to stock comparison or a dollar amount of a build, the two stroke does better.

The 4 strokes are closing the gap, and are SIGNIFICANLY more reliable in every trim. A boosted 2s can actually last longer than a NA one due to the a ability to tune the lean spots for the EPA out of the map. However that still accounts for roughly 10% of the longevity of the average 4s.

And just to feed the "troll", here in Ak we ride at sea level. Valdez has some fantastic terrain and steep and deep like the rest of you are talking at 0-4000'.

And riding down low close to sea level would be HUGELY in the 2S advantage corner as that solves the power/altitude loss issues.

you are right stock for stock the 2s will win,as for turbo costs, equal kits cost the same & you will make more power with the 4s with less race fuel.the sleds cost about the same stock so a full mod of both costs about the same.at this point in time there is only 1 2s sled that comes in at around 500lbs rtr,the gap is way smaller with the other 2 & i see a ton of people riding them just fine.

My .02... Fwiw.
Lets say tomorrow or this season suddenly 50% of the mountain sleds out there are new turboed Vipers. Do you think the perception of their reliability would still hold true with all the my sled is a POS and I'm gonna let everybody know about it on the forums that goes on here?

Ya.
At the end of the day the Nytro/Apex HAS proven itself to be a very reliable sled.

People can bitch and moan all day long about weight.
But there is no other sled out there that will take a beating and just keep on running year after year like a Yamaha 4S does.

Is the price difference on the sleds really even there?
I remember the new MTX Vipers were selling for $11,980 or $13,980 with Turbo.

Whats a real street price these days on a 2015 PRO-RMK 163 TERRAIN DOMINATOR?? (MSRP is 13,599)

Engine wise? Yes.

The whole package now assembled in TRF is the real question.
