Pot is legal now?

One thing i have noticed, non-scientific of course, is that u see a lot of 50's that smoke and work good jobs. It seems that they have a high rate of adult children that have been in trouble with pot and are now having a hard time getting jobs and/or valuable education. Their are a lot of smart 20 something’s recognizing the burden of government; getting good jobs and saving money for the future. I hope the 20 something’s that watched their dads smoke up and were raised, lets say with a liberal lean can catch up when they need to: when the cradle to grave dependency fails.

As i say this i am mindful that i have a good chance to screw my kids up too... all i can do is hope i set some kind of example to guide them past 18 and they select friends that are fun but also responsible.

Yes the drug dealers will have to go legit cause the WA gov is going to want their cut. Trust me i have been watching them wring thier hands for the potential cashflow for years.

Raising 3 boys I am a little more against it than for it.. didn't use to care prior to having kids.

Is it a gate way drug to more dangerous drugs? True or false, opinion based, backed by many studies. Anyways, a risk I don't care for when it comes to my kids being the first generation growing up with BIG changes like this... the exposure will be much higher so risks will be higher. Almost every family in America has been highly affected by addiction and I think we just opened a can worms. Sure hope I'm wrong

With weed legal I think for the first x period of time it will cause more negative impacts than positive when it comes to our youth, sure hope I'm wrong there too.

my wife and I have been formulating our conversation about this when it becomes legal and is more out in the mainstream. 2 boys 10 and 12. we are going to approach it like the conversations they might have had coming out of prohibition back in the day.

This will be a tough one with the kids growing up. They will start grabing dads stash and going to school with it. Just like the booze we would get into when we were young.

It is funny hearing people that obviously never smoked weed talk about what they think legalization is going to mean. Weed has been around your kids. They could get it if they wanted it. The only thing is that it seems many parents don't know this.

When I was in high school. I could get weed by the end of the school day. Cigarettes and alcohol on the other hand were much more difficult. Anyone know why that is?

I got to tell you that we voted for it; I think there are some very good offerings in this law and that pot is already very available, especially since you can grow it in your bedroom. If you can do it without harming others than go for it; congrats, i might join you for a hit once in a while... cause luckily it doesnt do the magic got to have it thing to me; and i'd rather put fuel in my sled or have a beer.

I have smoked it and know some of the folks you may assume haven’t might in fact have been dealers. Regardless it is a substance that alters your brain cells, like many legal and illegal. They all have problems and benefits.

I’d rather have my business be my own…
The big problem is that it is my business because I am subsidizing others for getting stoned (name you method) and being a drag on society… not that pot is solely to blame or even a major contributor. I believe that this law begins to address the disconnect between general use and abuses associated with it; and attempts to apply some funds in mitigation for it. If I don’t use it, why do I have to pay for the problems associated with it?

I think we need to go further… like piss test for societal “safety nets”, if you need help (unemployment, food stamps, etc) first show me you are trying. Trust me that is a severe compromise on what I’d really like. And actually an idea floated by some on the “left”.

It doesn’t affect me or mine??? Look outside your 36” safety zone…

In a psychology class I took there was a statistic that 34% of America used illegal drugs or used drugs illegally. Sure it was a conservative estimate. It went on to calculate the lost productivity and cost to the economy; it was staggering… Look at your county budget some time and see what you pay taxes for, what are the cost of the jails? You will under estimate, it is that bad. The prisons and jails are not full of innocent 18 year olds caught with a joint in their pockets… Just think of the roads and bridges that could be built, or salmon habitat restored, with the billions wasted on criminals and drug caused losses each year?

I know several people you all are paying a little extra for so they can live in a “van down by the river” get the GVT cheese, cell, medical, the occasional uninsured car accident, selling your chainsaws, etc… I’m sure I’m not the only one?

I wish it didn’t bother me. But I know some of the money that I could do extra for my kids is going to the guy and his family that shot a cousin of mine for $1200 in a drug deal. And even worse; the drug family was on GVT assistance so I paid a little for the bullets. Bad stuff happens in the world of the Dr. feel good, and we are the lucky country, look at what goes on south of the border.

I do think that it is refreshing when a lot of us recognize our wild past was fun and hopefully mostly harmless; but really unproductive and want a better (more fun, less dangerous, cleaner, and more free) future for our kids.

Truly JMhO

I voted against the law. I am FOR legal drugs. I thing ALL drugs should be legal. I don't' care if you shoot heroin, I just don't want you to shoot my cousin or steal my TV to pay for it. Putting people in jail for pot is stupid. The cost of the war on drugs is staggering and we have lost. I voted against the law because of the driving under the influence part. Weed is so persistent in your blood stream that I don't think we can judge safe drivers by that. We have gone kinda over board on the DWI laws for booze, I think the cops are going to go way over board on smoking drivers. They have to be drooling over all the money they are going to bring in. Guys who smoke a lot have a big tolerance and can safely drive right after smoking let alone later that day. It's not like alcohol where you can't drive safely at a blood level of .15-.20 or over.

People who say "I voted no because I don't want my kids around it" clearly don't remember highschool. It is everywhere, in fact I have more trouble finding someone to buy me booze than I would have trouble getting some MJ

seems like more freedom to me, and that's always good rite?!?!

I can see it now, backpacks with space for your bong... priceless!

Haha that's funny rate there, but all B.S aside alot of drug dealers are mixing pot with other drugs So maybe if they legalize it you can go in and get clean pot.Well figure of speach.:face-icon-small-ton

got any proof of safe driving while "high"? Willing to let your kids ride in a school bus after the driver got done smoking some quality weed? How about you get injured and the ambulance driver is a "Guys who smoke a lot have a big tolerance..." and he gets to drive the ambulance down a back country road and your life is in his hands...
