Polaris PRO v.s. 2011 skidoo

fredw -> Read the Jan/Feb 2011 Snow Tech article from Dyno Port (big Ski Doo guys). He explains how dyno testing got him 150 HP stock with the ethanol plug. He claims he can easily get 160 out of that sled. Interesting to people that want to mod a very light chassis in the Pro Ride.

i just want to have some incite cant decide which one to buy.

I'm sure this misspelling was not done on purpose but it couldn't have been more appropriate.

You're likely to get more INCITEFUL responses than INSIGHTFUL ones with this type question.

After losing the crank on my 08 last week, the last thing I was going to do is buy another Polaris. I talked to Michelle this morning to get some parts to put mine back together and she had another customer that lost his this weekend. I bought a new Etec, just couldn't justify giving Polaris my money this go around.

Agreed!! This sled runs great stock, got 66 gr weights from dealer but had to add and went 69. Chart says 68 for sea level, but stil overrevs easily with 69gr.

Gonna leave this one alone a while for warranty, but will add porting/pipe later and maybe a billet 1100 some day for a truly insane machine!!

pro v.s e-tec

i gotta chime in and say i had the same question at the beginning of the season which one to buy i had ridden polaris for years and loved them till 06 when they had nothing out worth buying, so i rode a buddies rev and loved it and so i bought one in 07 had my share of clutching problems but got all the buggs worked out and it was one of the best sleds i had owned at that time. every four years or so is when i get a new sled it seams every four to five years is when the next generation of sleds and new technology comes out so this year it was time to look into a new sled. so i like many others started looking at the dyno results for the sleds and thought the pro was not even a contender and was leaning towards the e-tec but i have never found the xp platform to fit my riding style feels almost to much rider forward and just felt un natural to me unlike the 07 rev it fit me really well. so my boss had snowcheaked two pros and offered to let me ride one for the day so i took him up on it, and i have to say the dyno may say one thing but when you ride a pro you better hold on they have that arm stretching power that will put a smile on your face, the bottom and midrange power hits the spot and rider position is dead on for me, was an easy move from the 07 rev to the pro, for boondocking and playing in the trees and technacal riding the pro is probably the best sled i have ridden. the handling and the power are perfect for this application and the power is right there right now instant throttle responce, so what they say on the dyno and what i feel says two different stories. i have not yet seen any e-techs to compare with but you cant go wrong with riding a pro i went and bought one the next week and i have over 400 miles on it now and it impresses me more every time i ride it. i love my rev but polaris done really good with this sled, but no matter what you ride as long as your having fun who cares what sled your on

:face-icon-small-disnice to have a guy side cut a whole slope a few times.... was he checking for snow stability for his buddies who were under him?????????????
After the slides last year where we ride i,m pretty reserved. Dont know how we made it through so many years, Frick-in scary what we used to do.We climbed everything and now pass a few hills. You really cant get a feel for it until you see it first hand.

I road doo's, they are straight flat driving sleds and because of this they narrowed the ski stance, i dont know how the 2011s are for fun carvy sleds but the narrower stance makes me think it would be not stable. They really feel like a trail sled thats really long, not a mountain sled. To me my IQ carves like a dream but is still stable, and ive head the pro is the same but even better, and i can see that being its the same geometry but just stiffer. I really think ski-doo should ditch the snow-x geometry and make a mountain chassis or else go to a 15" track and ditch the exterior rear wheels to see if that helps.

So saying all this, the bit extra hp can easily be added to the pro but to completely dial in and change the geometry of a sled is not worth it so ill be sticking with Polaris.

I can sidehill and carve on my XP just fine.:D Let me get this straight, your saying that the IQ and the Pro are the same, but the Pro is just stiffer???????? And the XP Summit and Freeride are no where close to your IQ and are just a trail sled made to go on flat ground????? And changing the geometry of a sled and even having the sled dialed in is not worth it....:face-icon-small-sho

It's rode not road.:face-icon-small-win

I have to say the pro is amazing in my opinion. I ride a 2010 m8 sno pro and I love my sled I can throw it around with ease very flickable. The pro is even more flickable ive spent maybe 2 hours on one through out the whole season. It holds a sidehill even better then the cat. Jared Sessions from boondocker told me that sidehills where the cat would wash out the pro just keeps going and going. My good friend and riding buddy bought a pro this year and he loves it. Hes coming off an 09 xp. It's turned him into a completely different rider a lot better too! The Pro is just so much easy to throw around especially if your into climbing in tight trees. I rode an 11 etec and yes its better then the 09 xps but it still tries to pull your ski back on the ground very hard to hold a sidehill. They do climb like crazy but come on climbing straight up a hill is jut boring. if your into trail riding and hillclimbing maybe you should get an etec but if you want a great all around sled get the pro. My m8 is supposed to have 160 hp but the pro will still out climb it. thats my 2 cents take it for what its worth but I can gurantee you will be so much more happy on a pro then you will be on an etec.

Don,t see anywhere in the article about which plug was used or fuel. I know I lost 150-200 rpms wih ethanol fuel and plug at about 9500'.

cat spanked those poo poos
it most certainly did..but it doesnt sound stock either...pretty solid pop coming from the exhaust like it has good compression and porting..(those of you who have had high compression, well ported motors know what I am talking about)..also that looked like great conditions for an attack 20 as well....but he had no issue with going higher..would be nice to know what all has been done to it...
