Polaris Pro tight foot loops

Ive had it happen hanging upside down in a tree well. It hurt bad enough if I had a gun on me I might have ended it. For the people who aren't understading it it is when your foot twists under the bar sideways. I the bar was about an inch taller you could prob yank your foot out of it.

My sled was at Boost-it this summer having some CR running boards installed . Neil asked me if I wanted the stirrups opened up. I hadn't had any issues personally, but apparently some guys have. In saying that. With the stirrup, Burandt Boards and Klim GTX boots combo. If anything goes array your foot is not coming out of here. I had him do the mod. They cut the stirrup tubes and moved them up. The CR boards are far less sharp. Loved my Burants but maybe a bit to much, and tough on boots. With the Cr boards and the opened up stirrups I feel more comfortable.

can you post some pics of the mod?
thx

How about Polaris does away with the hoop and does a complete redesign. I don't like them at all. Maybe a short toe hold for trail use and small enough not to lock you in when the gymnastics start.

When I put my Airframes on, I only put grip tape on the first two "rungs" and left off the traction screws and cleats. Moving the tube up should be a good solution. Maybe take a file and knock the corners down a bit on front portion of the Polaris boards would help too.

Here is a pic, before the bottom is cleaned up. It's been moved up 2 inches. You can trim more off the bottom after moved. Showed this pic so you have a better idea how much it's been moved.
Oops upside down

i was thinking about cutting the hoop off and then rewelding it to follow the the path of the plastic/top of footwelll vent.

how much structural integrity do these provide?
if they were cut completely off, would the structure be compromised?

I had it happen to me also.
Riding through some close drifts. The sled stopped and tipped left, I went right and over the front. Caught my boot sideways and hyper extended my knee before popping it out of place. My body weight still moving forward finally yanked my foot free.
My friend finally waded through the snow to get to me. I kept moving my leg trying to ease the pain. I had to ask him if my foot was facing the right way.
Luckily I didn't break anything but that knee hasn't been right since this happened.

I haven't had my foot ever get trapped in the Pro stirrups but I did have my foot get stuck in my previous Summits footwell and lead to a broken leg on the mountain and a hell of a long ride out. I said at that time had I been on a Pro it wouldn't have happened and I still believe that.

I don't have size 13 feet so maybe for me it isn't as much of an issue. If I do need to get forward on the Pro which I find is rare compared to how far forward I needed to be on the Doo's I don't have my toes under the stirrups. I actually stand with my toes ontop of them. After that painfull ride and ruining the last half of a season I am very conscious of where I stand and not having my foot in an area where it can get stuck is always on my mind.

So I do not think it is only on the Pro chassis that this can happen. With the Doo footwell and a smaller foot it is just as easy to happen when that area gets packed in snow. They cut it out a bit but it can still happen.

I had this happen to me last year. It happened the weekend between Christmas and New Years. I was hardly moving. Mabye 2mph. I lost my balance so I let go to just fall off on to my back like I have done many many times before and my foot got caught and I tore my MCL and ACL.
After surgery and 6 months of recovery I refuse to ride my pro until I have the toe grabs replaced with something with more room. I kick myself in the butt because I had my foot get caught several times before that and didn't think to much about it until I tore my knee up.

My boots are size 10 and they are similar to a Motorfist stomper boot. Not big at all either.
I definitely pay attention to where my feet are now also.

i’ll ask again.

I hope that Polaris does something about this when they come out with a new model mountain sled. They must know that this is a safety issue, I wrecked my left knee on a side hill when I hit a rock. I fixed the issue on my sled by cutting some 1" thick Teflon blocks to match the shape of the Mike Taylor foot well vents and bolting the blocks between the vent panel and the sled foot well. Now my foot only goes in far enough to catch the toe of my boot, much easier and cheaper than cutting and re-welding!

I am going to tear into my sled over Christmas break and see if, structurally, they are necessary. I am not going to be hasty, but if they are not serving a purpose structurally, I will eliminate them perhaps.....or at least modify them. Hmmmm.... another project?

Had the same problem of boots getting stuck, The Boost it guys had cut them off and moved them up for me. One of the best mods I could have done for riding more comfortable on sled.

I have had it happen to me multiple times along with a few of my friends. It seems to only happen on sleds with the burandt style boards because when you get thrown back your heel digs into holes in boards and binds your ankle. The solution is simple. Take a sawzall and cut them out! I have had 5 Pros now and have cut them out of everyone and never had a problem structure wise. And they must be trully worthless because I have never noticed they are missing either. Cheapest fix on snowest!
