Polaris Pro RMK (Dump em boys)

Mine used less oil then the other 3 sleds in our group, I haven't premixed, I'm just riding the sled since there is 3 years of warranty left. I asked My dealer about turning the oil pump up a bit? They recommended not to, because Polaris has a set Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) In the engine computer. Changing the oil ratio will change the AFR and the sled wont run to is optimum performance.

There is no 02 sensor in the pipe or can, the sensor is a temp sensor. And, an 02 sensor/AFR is virtually blind to small increases in injected oil, won't impact an AFR, but will blow out a sensor sooner with too much oil. I've run 02 sensors in 2 strokes, lots, JMPE. Turn up the pump at least to spec. Some are lean on oil. Gotta question if the dealer has any idea what they're saying...

Blanket statements about sleds can be somewhat credible, but I bet if one were to collect all info about all sleds of a brand/model, blown up and running, you would see a trend. Quality of oil, warmup time, usage, etc all play in the equation. If a guy bought a new sled that was clutched for altitude, rode it out the door without warming it up, using Penzoil 2 stroke oil and screaming down an icy trail at 9500 rpm at sea level, I bet he could blow it up.
The 02 Skidoo 800 engines had piston/cyl clearance problems, we had to replace a ton of pistons under warranty. But some just clattered away and never broke a skirt, others did. Our demo never broke, but it was ridden by people who took care of it. Polaris cranks seemed to go out a lot in the early 2000's. If an engine has a "weak" spot, it will be highlighted by misuse or less than perfect conditions. Not saying anything about anyone or any sled, but there are many factors.
I buy and part a lot of sleds, I bought an 03 RMK (brand doesn't matter) that had 3400 miles on it when the crank broke. (Also doesn't matter.) Looking at it, I would have guessed the sled had well under 1000 miles, it was perfect. I am now looking at another sled that has a little over 700 miles total, I would guess that it has 4000-5000 miles in it, just in how it was taken care of and maintained.
Geez, I must be bored..................:)

I agree with some of that. But some of us do take great mechanical care, but just ride'em really hard. I trade every year..... Put on bout a 1000 to 1,200 miles a year. The sled is always in rough shape. But mechanically perfect. My 09 xp looked like it had 4000 miles on it but only had 900. But man did i have a fun 900. I see alot of sleds that have 2000 to 4000 miles on them that look like new. What fun is that! But i do take a hit too sell'em. But who doesn't. Part of the game!

Thread's like this that start out so imflamatory and end up as a pissing match dont do a thing for anyones opinion or knowlege about the product. I am one of the unfortunate MANY that own the Dragon. I want to hear the good and the bad with the Pro so I can make an educated decision on what to buy next. That will depend on what manufacurer (Poo or Cat) takes care of there customers and put's out a quality product. Any chance we could keep these threads usefull?

hey all you guys adding oil to the tank.. why don't you just turn the pump up a little.. check the marks and set just a bit rich.. lots of Polaris sleds at our house.. have had all the bad ones too 08, 09, 10, 11 & 12.. skipping 13 to see how the new drive pans out............anyway.. they are all set way lean from the factory.. probably for emissions nonsense.. measure your oil and adjust the pump..your machine will be fine... throw the stock muffler too.. they all have to much back pressure to scavenge exhaust for emissions..... :light:

Injectors spraying fuel washes oil off some parts, premixing in some oil is better for lubrication on those parts.
