Polaris 2017 Speculation Thread

I agree on the drive system. As far as rideability goes, sleds have come a long way over the last 10 years, but the drive system has been the same for decades (with the exception of the belt drive). I think eliminating/replacing the cvt would be a HUGE advancement in the industry.

If they can think outside the box on the Slingshot...they can certainly do it in the sled department. They STARTED that process when they designed the RUSH rear end.

I'm not old or lazy. But I sure do like how & where my axis 174 takes me. For those brave enough to try it & not worry about all the negativity that some how goes along with a 174 they'll like.
Add a narrow front end & you have a sidehilling, carving, hill climbing beast.
(When set up properly)

I hope they come out with a skinny, light sled that's a cross between a sled and snowbike. They need to take the lead in bringing out this kind of machine to keep up their momentum sales-wise. It seems like both Polaris and Ski-Doo are dead set on being #1, so things are likely to evolve pretty rapidly in the years to come.

In the "dream" category is a replacement for the CVT system. You'd have to think they're researching stuff like this. Clutches are the bane of snowmobiling. 30% power loss. One of these years, they'll do something new instead.

Polaris is dead set at staying at #1. :face-icon-small-hap

Calling it dreaming like you, cvt system is pretty amazing in my book.

And call me crazy but some kind of electrical power would be awesome! You could LISTEN to the suspension work!!

Fully electric motor and appropriate drive train that sheds weight from current 2-stroke chassis and engine.
Ride it like a golf cart.

Guaranteed to last 16 hours of riding between charges.
Fully charges like a Tesla...in less than two hours.
Silent would be FUN!!!

That would need a big unicorn horn on the hood. LOL
Don't get me wrong, I would love an E sled but batt weight and longevity is way out for us.

CVT is the most efficient way to deliver power. Ask anyone who has ever seen or driven a formula SAE car with Snow Engine and CVT. To much power to wheels!. They all have to clutch for slower acceleration just to keep them hooked up! Smoky Burnouts Baby!! Yeee....Haaa!

:face-icon-small-dis I'm gonna be upset if thats the only 140 something sled we see. I want a mountain specific 144 or 146 not a trail sled with a 144. I shouldnt speak yet but Ill be mind blown if they release the 174 and no 144/146 RMK or SKS, the 174 is a niche market, 144/146 would sell like crazy in the midwest, east, AK, and european countries. The 174 will mostly sell in western Canada... Which is mostly dominated by Doo.

I agree, that's why in addition to my 155 Pro, I have a XM 146. It would be nice to have all Polaris in the shop.....

I have some serious EYE CANDY for you guys in a couple hours.
Polaris provided me with a TON of Ultra-High res photos of the new sled in the backcountry. Some really gorgeous shots. having to edit and size every one of them to fit in our format. But I think you will enjoy all of them.

Just a little taste!?!?

by saying "New sled in the backcountry" I hope you are not talking about the 174" or a hybrid trail sled...by "new sled" I hope it's new chassis new motor etc.....waiting sucks!

Why do you want a new chassis and a new motor? Why do you think Polaris would release ANOTHER new chassis and new motor after they already did last year?
