Squirrel Conditions....

Rode squirrel today... it was unreal. Unfortunately for the weekend warriors you will find super sketchy conditions, and lots of beat out jumps. Epic day... except for around 5:30 pm.... the entire face on the left side about 1000 yards from the chute you climb to get up there, released about a half mile section as someone went up and pulled a u-turn... don't know who it was, they were unaware of what was behind for about half way down... then something triggered them and they started to rip and beat the run out zone, as their friends watched in dis-belief. Pretty sketchy that late in the afternoon on sun baked snow. Other wise, ridiculous day for this late in the season.

I don't suspect the park service will keep placer open much longer, the side of the highways are cleared by about ten feet, and the river is opening up quite a bit. Park service has rangers out + plus railroad guys patrolling for Skookum Poachers and railroad poachers. We had a railroad guy(Ford pickup with rail wheels) follow us and observe our group going under the tracks and taking the river back. As we left started to trickle(rain) down low and the clouds coming in were pretty dark.

If you ride this weekend, ride safe, don't poach, and stay off the tracks. Keep an eye on the CNFAIC site for closures. I hope to get one more mid-week ride next week.

To whoever was riding the mountain side when it released... cheers - glad you made it and get to ride another day. :beer;

Oh yah, we took photos of the slide aftermath, they aren't the best but here you go.

Walk on by...

As we motored around the corner at Portage I was hopeful for a ride at Placer, but the areas of open water along the streams deterred us - and as we stopped at Ingram the open water around the first rocky point looked too extensive. We drove up to Turny for a fine day of riding instead.
