Pics from the 509 McCall Trip

Cool pics, but is it safe to attack steep powder slopes like that.....apparantly yes but how do they know?

Definitely not spring snow! some of the best powder I've ever ridden in- deep, dry fluffy stuff! Definitely turbo snow- thanks to tom for lettin me pull the chute on his apex turbo cause my M1000 didn't stand a chance- a little too deep for a stocker! :) Two incredible days- wish you all could have been there! looks like we're gonna get our snow this year- lookin forward to an epic winter!!

we do check the snow conditions on other areas before we hit the steep stuff- but if we're honest, you really can't know till you hit it. There are a lot of days we just stay in the trees cause we know it's dangerous- but the snow was pretty bonded this week in McCall- not much slabbin goin on.

we rode the cat to fisher creek saddle yesterday, and over duck lake.

snow was KILLER. the cat was wallowing along down the trail with the blade up, tiller up, and clawing its way down the road.

no sleds had been out there in the past 3 feet of snow, even down the road.

i'd guess hazard woudl be the same way.

Nice pics! It's been a great year so far.

My friends and I have been riding in areas of Idaho and Wyoming for the previous few years and have probably about 30 hours of recorded snowmobiling content...some killer ski stuff also. We have been thinking about putting out a short DVD for sale just to the locals shops and stores...but my question is...I have heard from some skiing buddies that make films, that a permit is required to film if you intend to sell the DVD. Does anyone on here know if that is true or not? I'm guessing the permit (if needed) costs more $$ than I have. I would just like to know so I am not wasting anymore time thinking about this.

Thanks in advance!

technically you do need a permit if you film or take still photos in a national forest or other federal land. we just submitted ours for 2 days of shooting at sonora pass in california. if your group is under 10 people its $150/day. some of the ranger districts we're working with are letting us pre-pay for the number of days we want to shoot and then shoot when conditions are prime.

the actual FS rule book says you have to pick the days before you shoot but that is ridiculous and we've had good results in making that case to several districts here in california for a pre-pay/shoot-when-we-want format. you fill out a few forms, pay your $$$ and your legal.

they also want you to have an insurance bond but that can be negotiated too as we have found out.

nice pics tommy boy...you likin' doc's old camera?

jeff

I can understand charging a hollywood film crew in order to film inside of a national forest, due to the carnage they leave behind. But I cant believe they charge snowmobilers who film for the purpose of selling DVD's especially with the low to no profit margin of most sled film companies.

Tom and JW,

Thanks for the invite to ride with you guys it was a blast! Looking forward to seeing it on film.

FIRED UP? I'm at the verge of a nervous breakdown here...these are the pics we've been waiting to see... Is it Tuesday yet? I'll eat sleep and drink in my riding gear all weekend waiting for Tuesday to arrive, and the Work to begin...LMAO...

SWEEEEEEEET pics....

Sweet shots!!!! Looks like home! Been getting some great shots ourselves lately inbetween storms. It's been soooo deep at times that you could not stop in the flats without getting stuck!

So here's a question for you photographer types - how do you pack your nice cameras safely? Ever have problems with condensation?
