Petersville 2009/2010

As you pull up to the Forks Roadhouse there are two trails to the right. I know the one closest to the roadhouse goes out to the hills, but is the farthest one to the right the "E+W Expy" that goes up toward 127?

The E-W actually "ends" a bit further North up Petersville Road. At almost a right angle to the Petersville road which is North-South at that point.

As far as where the different forks go, man they go all over, the South Fork goes to Martin Creek, Black Creek and possibly all the way around the Southern Peters Hills, Little Peters Hills, Schneider Lake, Kahiltna, etc.

The road and creek going North head to points like Deep Creek, Petersville City, Lunchbox Hill,Ramsdyke Creek, Kroto Lake, Bunco Lake and Beyond, possibly to Denali Lake, MP 131 or around the Northern Peters Hills, Tokositna River, etc.

Get a GPS map from one of the local merchants, better yet, get two, give one to the first lost person you see next time you're out, they are about 10 or 11 dollars.

And about the Petersville GPS maps that are out there, they have for a long time been printed with one major error. If you input all the coordinates printed on the back, one lake will show on the other side of the highway. This is a one digit error, and easy to miss. I tried to contact the author a few years ago. Maybe they have fixed it?

These maps are usable with a compass too.

Hope some of that helped.

I was B.Sing with a group before we went on a Sat "night rally" from our camp @ 121 to T.C. and they said the North loop sucked bad. (oh and the bar behind T.C. lodge closed a month ago :( )We rode in on the E-W exp. to Deep Creek trail and south to T.C. and both those trails were good, but sounded like a lot of the loop from reflector tree north to 131 gravel pit was in poor condition.

Anybody riding pville tomorrow that knows where to find the good snow? Not really familiar with all the trails people are talking about on here. I'd like to become more familiar with the area. Thanks.

Best low land snow is North of the East West, anywhere between the highway and Bunco Creek, this is the less used area, but has alot of feeder trails.

We rode from MP127? to the Tokositna River Intersection Via Swan Lake, continued to Kenny Creek via Bunco Lake trail, ate, went to the Reflector tree and continued on the E-W, from there we rode the E-W to around Moose Creek, and then turned North, staying between Trapper Creek and Moose Creek all the way to just south of Denali Lake, where we met the main trail again out to 127?.

No big climbs today, just high mileage (61 miles) and plenty o' Boondocking and exploration. There is just not enough snow for some shortcuts yet.

They may have even got some new snow around Bunco Lake.

What is T.C.?

My wife and I rode all over the swamps for New Years day. There are a few inches of fresh snow on top of the set up base. By the way, the trails have been groomed and are like a freeway compared to the kidney busting road heading to the hills. The base is great, all they need is a good dump of powder for great midwinter riding in the hills and swamps now.

Here are a couple pics of my wife on her second rookie ride.

Thanks for the status update morsno. We decided to paint bedrooms and install kick board vs. snowmachining. What's wrong with us! I guess we're waiting for a couple feet of fun to be dumped on the hero snow. Nice lookin photos, and the sled looks good too. :D

Crash!!!

You're actually failing at your weather reports lately. If you don't inprove your reporting I'll cancel your ticket!

Dad.....

She has only rode it twice so far this season, but she loves it compared to my old 2000 700 RMK she rode last year. The 600 is a good dependable machine that fits her well.

Kenny Creek reporting 10 inches in the last 24 hours and its supposed to keep coming. Ill probably be up there mid week.

Rode the 'ville today in the snowstorm. First tire tracks past gate creek, first sled tracks across peters creek. Theres a foot of fresh on top of well set up base, STILL needs more base snow, lots of brush. Very flat light. Great ride. pics coming.

Forgot to add; riding just a few miles from the forks south of black creek. Fog and snow lifted around 2, and we could see peters hills...looked good, but not enough light and fuel by then. Snow on the hood all day, no matter how often you cleared it.
