pay to be special on slowest???

Look, I belong to a fishing forum, which has 20,000 more users than slowest. It is FREE and it is FAST! It does not allow any signature advertising. You want to advertise there- you pay. You reach alot of people. You build your business. I know a guy who knows a guy over there and they are making money. It can be done. Plus the moderators stay out of the way. It makes this place look weak.

If 7-11 wanted to charge you 10 bucks just to walk in the door would you go in, or would you go to am-pm?

 
I can spend $10 for lunch, I would rather pay $10 a yr then have to see ads on here that have nothing to do with sleds, which will come and will suck. I was thinking I would not pay but the more I thought about it the other sites don't even compare to this one so I wil pay for a year and see what happens. I for one have sold several things on here and never paid a dime to the sight so I figure its better then paying the fees on ebay. stopping bitc&ing about $10 and if that is going to break you, you should probably sell your sled and stop paying for internet. I am looking forward to seeing some of the people leaving after reading some of the crap lately.
 
If anyone thinks this isn't christophers doing all along, then go here and read the note from christopher about him taking ownership of this particular site and THEN converting it to a pay site.

How do we know based on what has happened over the last few months, since christopher has taken over that THIS ^^ won't happen also. His track record so far has been a train wreck.

I would've completely agreed with your entire post had this come before christopher showed up with his master plan and changes that have made the site.....

I think the biggest problem is that many of the "old timers" have is with the changes is. The site was fine and fun before the latest changes. The $$ probably isn't the big issue. Many of us are conservative in nature and consider this an unnessary type of charge. But also I believe in the free enterprise concept of this country too. If SW has a popular product they can charge what they want if not it will fail. I don't wish failure on anyone just because i don't agree with their ideas. I am and will be at least a 2-3 timer on sites......it's not like I'm cheating on my wife. You can have fun and be informed on multiple sites. Time on this issue will definately tell........sorry about the ramble on many of us discuss because we care.

lets get some altertives up, but since snowest have tighter rules now. It will not let us share certain sites on snowest.....it will it automaticly change what you type and read snowest rather than what you type????

so how many forums does he or his boss own now? sure sounds like he buys forums or is he just happens to be into gospel as well as snowmobiling???

whats the purpose of a online chat room / forum when he starts making rules like cant suggest different sites? He wants us to think inside the box, come on people we get on here to share knowagle....and he is taking parts of this away for his own benefit...not cause it a bad word but for his own benefit.. So Tell me he his not here to make profits. Which is fine, but I got the impression the site cant handle the traffic, which it did fine till he started F'N'around....
 
"diamond" wth does a paid Mormon site and a paid snowmobile site have to do with 10% tithing and a conflict of interest? No one forces anyone to pay for a website or tithing.

I will check out the paid snowest. I have gotten more than $10 a year worth of advice. If all the doomsayers are right, it will fade away to a memory.

BTW, it is worth $10 to me to not see gravy or Fordy posting anymore. Never a piece of useful information from them yet.
 
Speakin of the Duo I have noticed it seem to be a little quiet lately. On another note I bet its hard to draw in new members with a fee. There must be a trial period for newb's. I of course will move on easy enough. There is plenty free forums and I believe they will only grow larger that way.

A few comments on the paid subscription from Christopher:

Some choose to question our policy on charging for a membership to this site. I can certainly understand hesitation on this matter. Anybody charging for gospel- related services should be subject to scrutiny.

Prior to my assuming the role as site owner, all of the content was available for free. Unfortunately, the project was not sustainable. It was losing large amounts of money. This site receives large volumes of traffic. It requires dedicated hardware in high-end internet data centers. It requires on-going maintenance, license fees to pay for software we use, and countless hours of my personal time, and the time of many others, in operations and management. Quite simply, this site would not be sustainable without a subscription service.

It's interesting that some people have such a hard time with the concept of paying for these types of services. The church distributes countless amounts of information, services, and books for money. Examples include The Ensign, Deseret Book, the distribution center, and more. In most cases where actual cost is involved to produce and/or manage the content, the church requires a fee to help cover those costs. Unfortunately, we must do the same.
 
this is really a way they want to make some coin on the side.. running websites, forums and the like myself, a site this size with the traffic it gets does not require alot of money annually.. once they pay there bills, they'll pocket the rest of the cash and it will be a very very large sum compared to what it takes to run the forum..

here is a prime example of a free forum i have here (shut down right now was only a test site) most webhosters have forum apps for free with the service.. and i'll tell ya, this forum can handle thousands of people, gigabytes of images and more.. its really quite simple..

so, with that said.. these guys are full of shi*t... they should run banners like they already do and already do get money for those banners.. like the one i am looking at on the side right now for Klim.. Klim is paying to run that banner... they alone probably pay the cost.. serious bullsh*t
