pay to be special on slowest???

This is not radio. If you think about it this is really a PRIVATE site that they allow you to be on.A add on raido takes away from airtime for what you want to listen to.A add on here on the top or sides does not effect the useability of the forum. Myself,I really dont even notice the adds,they are just filler for the top ad sides.

People keep acting like it's something they own and it's been taken away.... I wish people got as worked up over land issues,we would never lose anymore land ever!!

You got that wrong. The ads take up webspace. The more ads there are, the more the servers are taxed and therefore the slower the website gets. Have you ever heard of the term "SloWest". Guess where it came from. All the bells and whistles and ad space. So the ads defenitely affect the forum.

And yes, I do get just as worked up about land use issues.

I have been on here since 2003 and most of the people I have talked to that have been on as long or longer say paying is no prob for something that provides so much info and entertainment.

I too have been here since 2003 and there is a good chance that I am bailing. We'll see how this plays out.

Well,your answer to SW was to get MORE adds(like radio) to pay for the site so we would not have to. More adds=more servers=more money needed... They ARE getting new servers to speed up the site but it all costs money.

SW is in a tough spot,this site has grown bigtime and the costs to run it have too. I hope it all works out too,I'd hate to see it go away.

Well, I don't want to get in any pissing match either, and I would really like to see Snowest suceed. However, I believe they are heading down the wrong path and they are not listening. Did you read all of the new features that they are bringing on. Not one of them means didly squat to me. Do we really need to have video conferencing? Come on, be real! I would be just happier than a pig in $hit with the Snowest we had a year ago. Can anyone argue about that? So this fancy server we all got coming is gonna do all this stuff that we don't need, let alone want and it all comes with a price, a price we don't need. That is my beef. How much would it cost to get a bigger server just to do what we used to do but with more users. Do we need a shout box at the top. No! It just gets in the way when you're trying to scroll down the page. If you wanna chat, use twitter for crying out loud and save our webspace. That's my beef.

I have been here as one of the oldies on the site. I have seen several changes on the forum. Most have worked out well. But to be honest(IMHO) the latest ones are over kill for some of us. I want info and to be able to talk with old friends and new and to get up dates on land issues(SAWS) and to see what is happening in my area that I frequent and areas I am going to go and visit. I have sled friends all over the west and Canada. This is where I get to talk with them.
The site has gone to where about the only place I go now is to riding areas unless I am looking for something in swap. I enjoy using the forum very much. The post count thing changing to this new deal is confusing and then some--kinda funky to me.

My opinion on this is--I probabley will not join the paying ranks that stay here. I am watching monies that are spent in the monthly budget closely.
Ya it is just $$ when compared to the sport we participate in--but when it comes to nickels and dimes and something needs to be cut--it will be dollars to be a member of a forum--any forum. $20 forum--$60 for tv--$15 for lunch----all these things add up to hundreds--I am watching my budget closely--I have not bought a new sled because of this untill I have the cash--times are tight--I am in sales and see it daily. I have 2 very expensive hobbies--Snowmobiling and Saltwater fishing(later is much more money)--they both are expensive for the equipment, and saftey is the last thing to suffer for me and equipment maintence.
I guess what I am saying is--I am tight right now and for the foreseeable future. So I will not be in the VIP class for sure. I mod another forum and we seem to be able to make it with our advertiser's and have upgraded our servers 3 times in just 6 months to handle the growing demand.

I wish the best for the snowest forum, but have my doubts with it going to a pay site.


It all boils down to staying with in a budget.

Paying for a forum is kinda ridiculous if you ask me. Com'on I don't even pay for pron on the INTERNOT. So look, if boobs are free so why should I pay to hear a bunch of dudes stroke their own egos and brag about how awesome their sleds are?

Kidding aside, there's plenty of alternatives out there. I learned a lot here, met some great people, but truth is for technical resources I go elsewhere most of the time anyways. I'll miss the community for sure. It was always awesome to meet some other riders out in the middle of nowhere to find out they are so-in-so on snowest. I've already asked, and I know that most of my friends (aka the people I hang out and ride with in real life) refuse to pay thus I'm gonna follow my flock.

I'd probably kick the $10 just for the online version of the mag, but it's kinda of principle. The whole world is moving to subscription model, the more people cave cause it's only $1.99, $5, $10 or whatever, the more companies that will adopt that model. Imagine the INTERNOT 10 years from now where you pay a subscription for every stupid thing you wanna go. Ugh. RESIST! TAKE A STAND with your dollar and say SUCK IT!

SledNW sure could be an awesome alternative for sure. I'm sure I'll be around there as soon as I get booted from here for good, been in there on and off before and it was a pretty slick site.. Think everyone that doesn't pay should revolt on their last days.

Where in the world can a business get free advertising regardless of how big or small? And then for these same people to jump on their soap box and say what's the big deal??
Sure, they want welfare. I've lost all respect for their business and thier ethics. It's embarrasing!

Think how much we pay for the sport we love, truck, trailers, sleds, clothing , extra gear ect, (thousands and thousands) We've been getting this for years for free!! A lousy 10 or 20 bucks a year and some people are going to bail?? My business is the toughest it's ever been in 34 years. I know how hard it is to make a buck. I see both sides, but for them they dont have much choice, magazine subscriptions are down nation wide. They are going to provide us better and faster service, ? Hey lets give the a chance. I'lll bet that anyone who "bails" will be paid up and back on before the snows gone. You just cant get this kind of info anywhere else and I'm sure they will figure that out. The entertainment factor between Fordy and Graveler is priceless !!

I joined several sites lately and they all have good information about currnet riding areas and conditions.

www.dootalk.com has alot of good skidoo technical information with 64000 plus members

www.snowandmud.com has good riding area conditions and reports with 15000 members

www.totallyyamaha.com has alot of info with 14000 members

www.arctichat.com has alot of info for the arctic cat rider with a 40000 member base

So there are several forums to check out

Nice advertising in your signature just like winterbrew and others? How much did that cost you? no....I'm not trying to be jerk, I am just stating as very well put by Diamonddave. I know you both put more in to the sport then I will due in my life time.....and I value that very highly.....(yes you too winterbrew, friend sled still runs a combo of your clutchin advise).

BUT AGAIN I dont care about $10. But to pay $$$ for what a site that will become less popular than what it is now....I feel the majority will NOT pay to be a member of a forum and more I think about the more I feel this way.

So it boils down to the ones that will pay is gonna get less than what it is NOW...great deal....
