I think "Christopher" is actually Christine Gregoire's alter ego by the way things have been going. Every thing was fine until he started "fixing things".

I pay enough unnecessary and unwanted taxes in this state (WA), and now snowest is telling me i have to pay a fee to get full access? Why not keep everything the way it is and offer to those who wanted it, to become a VIP member. I would gladly pay $20 or more a year to become a VIP member of such a great site, especially if it was set up as a non profit, and i knew that my money was going towards helping our cause. This would help raise some money, and NO ONE would be talking about leaving. The way it is everyone is starting to divide and some good people will leave.

This is a slippery slope that Christopher is playing on. I would love to have to come back to this site in a year and eat crow for what i have posted on this topic. But i don't see this site lasting that long if things don't change.

The way it is now, i will be parting with my $30 a year. It will be in the form of a donation to SAWS. my.02

I'm not saying I'm not going to pay, I will wait and see how things shake out, but why pay at all if you can get it for free elswere. If slednw.com or backcountryrebels.com takes off, I'm out.

How much do you pay for google, myspace, twitter or facebook?? Nothing, it's free, they find a way to pay the bills. I hear snowest is in the top 10 chat rooms on the web. If that's true then they need to get more creative than the current plan IMO. Eric

Why do we need all the bells and whistles that come with the new server. I don't agree with the way this all played out. Christopher coming in and making all the changes and such and not listening to the users that make this site what it is.
If they would have kept it pretty much the way it used to be and then said, "Hey, we can't keep this site running unless you all chip in a little." then things would be different. But the way they went about it, reminds me of the socialist Obama administration.
So I kind of doubt I'll stick around. If Christopher and his cronies are wise enough to pull their head out of you know where and listen to the users, then I will stay.
It's been a sad week for snowmobiler's across the country. Possibly a fatal blow to SW4M.

If I am correct, doesn't radio make money? Do you have to pay to listen to the radio? I think the advertisers/business' should pay to advertise or do business. But the users/listeners are exempt. I subscribe to sattelite radio, just so I don't have to listen to 40min/hr of commercials. I would expect the same here. I could care less about the calendars for sale, or magazines to buy. Or all of the other crap on the screen. -00's

I can't believe how many people have been crying over $10...it's freakin rediculous.
I'm in, the amount of knowledge I've gleaned over the last few weeeks has been extraordinary. PLus i pay for premium memberships for other forum sites, why not this one? Not to mention they're fixing/upgrading everything long before they're charging anything, so you can make the decision after you see if it's worth it or not... talk about a non-issue..

Well... the problem with that is.... when it's a free site there are a lot of people that come and go thruough the forum that make it as great as it is. When you start to charge for the site, that number of people that come through the site that give their .02 greatly decreases.... there for, everybody suffers. That's my issue with it.

The people here make the site... with less people comes less info.

So with me, it's not about the money

I already paid. I bought something from an advertiser just a week ago. I will go somewhere else and those sponsors will sell me their stuff there. If people think the tec advise they get here is only on these pages then they should know there is a whole big world out there. If snowest needs money to upgrade they should hire better salesman. That would be like me charging my customers money to come in my store to spend money on products I sell. AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

So do we though, which a lot of people seem to be forgetting. We GIVE and WE take. Look at that being post. Probably is going to save me 50 bucks. That is a benefit off of ONE thread.

Snowest has saved me lots and lots of money and time. So I try to give a little back and help other people too.

Sure it might feel like getting ripped off, but what about the site? I mean, is this supposed to be a charity here? It is an interesting question, and a difficult one too. One thing that should be remembered is that we might not benefit monetarily directly from this site, but I would imagine there are lots and lots of people that benefit indirectly.

How many times have people come on here on a Friday, looking for people to ride with on a Saturday. How valuable is that?

#1,NOBODY is forcing you to pay...

#2 we could not make the site a success if they didn't take the time and invest the MONEY to even start it in the first place.

#3 Do you watch pro sports? Ever go to a game? We have to pay bigtime to see them but the fans are the ones who make the teams a success and VERY rich... No fans=no pro sports..Yet we continue to pay extreme prices for tickets,food,clothing and other things from our pro teams..Don't they owe us? We made them successful and profitable. Why do we have to pay to see them? I for one think pro teams are paid WAY to much so I chose not to go to games and pay the stupid high ticket prices. My choice.

Funny you should mention that.
I also just spent a few hundred dollars with a sponsor of this site who told me that he will stop being a paying advertiser when SnoWest goes to a paid site.
He told me he has talked to a few other advertisers who promise to do the same.
Phatty (Boondockers videos) has also publicly stated in the forums he will drop his advertising dollars from SW as well.

SnoWest and HP...First rule of holes....

It's about policy, respect, and doing the right thing by others. Just like radio, the advertisers should be footing the bill. If I have to pay my .02, $10, $30 or even $100 then make the site super clean without any advertisers. Just like satellite radio.
Sorry, but I don't pay for XM or any service on the internet. There are several other sites out there that are going to profit from the demise of SW.

The other thing that is way over the line is moderators like that idiot --- with a vested interests in charge of sub forums. This site has really turned in to a joke, I think I might be leaving with the masses.

I dont understand how they are disrespecting you by charging for something THEY created and PAY to operate. You say they have to do right by others...So,if they cannot find enough advertisers to cover the cost of this place they are supposed to operate at a loss? This is a business,not a hobby for someone and if they cannot cover the costs with ads this is the next step.

It's also thier site so thier policy is whos is enforced.Never did they sign some contract saying they would provide a free forum to everyone forever.

I think you are going to find most all forums doing this sooner or later. I belong to a couple of racing forums and as they got bigger they finally had to ask the members for help.(All just in the last six months)There just is not enough advertisers out there to cover this stuff.

This is not radio. If you think about it this is really a PRIVATE site that they allow you to be on.A add on raido takes away from airtime for what you want to listen to.A add on here on the top or sides does not effect the useability of the forum. Myself,I really dont even notice the adds,they are just filler for the top ad sides.

People keep acting like it's something they own and it's been taken away.... I wish people got as worked up over land issues,we would never lose anymore land ever!!

It's funny how people say THEY built this site when all they did was use the forum.They have no money or time invested. Your time on here is not work.... None of you sat down and said to yourself,"hey I better get on SW and build the site up so it is successful" you come on here for entertainment and to gain knowledge about a sport you like.

I have been on here since 2003 and most of the people I have talked to that have been on as long or longer say paying is no prob for something that provides so much info and entertainment.
