P-22 failure on 9R

JH this is how we did it, ours was broken just like yours. Drilled it and got the sheave to break off the metal internal taper. Then slowly ground down the taper until it released from the crank shaft. Be careful when drilling , you don't want to drill into the oil line or crank seal behind the clutch.

So help me out here guys. What is the torque value for the center bolt on the P-22 primary? I can't seem to find it with a google search, and want to make sure my bolt stays in spec.

Just bought a 2023 boost, should I be checking the primary bolt torque often ?

Ideally would be good to torque it right away. Probably not a bad idea to check it every 150-200 miles and not when the clutches are hot.

Looks like the spyder broke. I might toss a fire and ice cover on mine. Increase strength, spyder clearance etc. I wonder if that will extend longevity or if anyone has had failure with after market covers that provide more support.

Seems like a ton more are blowing up this year.

Wonder if they source the castings from multiple vendors, and if some of the bolt failures may be from the clutch cracking and hammering on it.

This is a design issue. Plain and simple. The bolt has to hold the clutch to the crank AND the spider. 110 ftlbs

On a P-85, the spider is torqued to 250ftlbs in addition to a retaining nut on the fixed sheeve.

The P-22 belongs in a trash can. It’s not even worth recycling.

Such a hater. The P22 just needs to be refined. You guys were probably bitching about the P85 years ago in your AOL chat room. My primary spring broke into 3 pieces today. Does that count as a P22 failure?

P-85 was a home run at release. It has lower durability over the years since the progression of larger snouts and lighter pork chop crankshafts and is currently suffering from dimensional tolerances that are inconsistent and way out of spec. It can be addressed and is tolerable.

I was probably the biggest cheerleader on SW when the P-22 clutch was released. Then I tore one down.

Can you help me understand how you would refine this clutch where the spider could be retained with the force and velocity requirements needed? I’m sure the Polaris engineers would like to know also?

You might want to inspect your clutch closer Chilly. Guarantee there’s more going on with it then just a broken primary spring.

I'm dropping it off at the dealer Tuesday. Unless you want to come work on it and I'll give you some Ranier. The Boat Anchor performed very well in the 3' of fresh going up Scatter today. Today was probably top 5 all time for deepness. But now I have to go back to the 9R with a broken clutch. Real world problems here. I think I might need to buy a 3rd sled with how often I'm riding.
I'm excited to see how the 9R handles the over the hood deep snow tomorrow though.
