OK, so I sold my 07 and....

bad deal

i dont know about the sled but i bought daveb's 04 800 from him and it was just the as he said the sled would be, everyone takes a chance on a used sled. i dont think dave would have sold the sled with a known problem, so im thinking is was bad luck and he overheated it or who knows, could be hose rubbed through, did the guy say were it was leeking coolent from. Thanks again for a good sled dave, i should have kept it longer.

You Canadians pay way too much money for sleds! Anyways treat him how you would want to be treated and call her good.

agree with both points here. If it was me and you told me to pound sand, it would make me more pizzed. If you tried to help, in any way shape or form, I would be satisfied. put yourself in his position, and take it from there on how you would want it to end.

As for him wanting to give the sled back, no way. just work with him. You'll be amazed at how much better the outcome will be.

Dave, I'm just curious...was the overheat failsafe bypassed with the bigbore or ??? If it's still operational that would be a easy way to eliminate the overheating scenario.

I don't thing so.....I never overheated it. Far as I know, all the factory electronics were in place. The BB was done last summer and I only got in 4 rides to Revy this season (ya .....bad season for me, I know .... lots happened) and the engine performed flawlessly, other than it fouled the plugs once.

I still haven't heard back from the fella....

Dave, only you know what you have to do. Legally, you can tell him to get lost but that may not help you sleep at night.

What I would do is this - get the sled back to my garage and rip it apart with his help. Figure out what went wrong and order some parts ( he pays ). Teach the kid how to take care of a machine.

Give him your beer, time and experience but don't give him the money to buy parts. If you do, then he will never learn to take responsibility for his choices. He chose to buy a used mod sled

Crappy deal Dave. Sure sounds like an over heat rode with 4 Big bore doo's this weekend and my mod, all were running warm on the way up.
There is no way he was near any powder in the first 6km anywhere in western Canada in recent weeks. gotta travel further than that to get to the good stuff.
My water temp was allover the place on the trails this past weekend.

And yes Dave's stuff is always top notch, i've seen it first hand too.

excellent recommendation:D The other thing...just ask him to explain exactly what happened and Just listen.. you can learn a lot by the answers you get..

I have customers that will have a problem, so they call and I will tell them how to use the equipment,... their response will most always be, "Thats how I was doing it"..

If I ask them to tell me how they were using it, I will find the problem very quick, and then be able to teach them the correct way. at that point they know they made a mistake, and everyone (usually) goes away happy. IMO

It sux having a conscience.... You dont owe him anything than a sorry to hear that and give him the name of the shop you think would be good at fixing it. sj

Update: Zip. Nadda. Nothin. I have not heard back from him. So either it was something real simple and its fixed....or it was something nasty and he's decided not to ask for my help. I hope its the former.

when you buy or sell used , i would think most would want to be treated
the same in either case?
had same thing happen this year , bought cf rev from a fellow on here,
made it 3 km up trail and over heating?? checked and low coolant, dump
in water and drop scratchers and carried on. light on again? tow back to
truck and check over no sign of leak. oh and this was a sledshed 860
aswell , pulled head off and found nickasil peeled off mag side and o-rings
leaking on head? this thing had 2 diff. domes ?, some kind of putty to fill
in oem ring grooves in cylinders? very poor motor on my opinion!!
anyway i called the guy back and asked a couple ?'s and he new nothing,
as he had not had any problems? any way , at end of conversation he says
sorry for the trouble , i hadn't even told him that the thing was poached,
the slimy b*st*rd knew it all along. any way be very careful buying any
2007 800R POWERED EQUIPMENT!!!!

and i know i should have checked it out better , my own fault.

get it home and find the rails are tweaked and chainbox had been loose
and tearing holes in the cf tunnel.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

Well....if it had been a sled you bought from me.....I would have worked with you on it. Having actually seen the inside of my motor, I know the factory O ring grooves are welded and machined flat. The motor ran flawless a week before the sled was sold. Does NOT sound like a SledShed 860 in yours....but if you want to debate that...please start a new thread.

didn't want to offend you . just my experience?
used is used and thats why they are cheaper.
helping him with knowledge , is better than $$$
he can use the knowledge forever , will be smarter done the road.

yes it is his 860 and not interested in helping?
