Oil use

Absolutely no downside to using more oil other than using more oil. 2s motors that use more oil will live longer and make more power... I don't think that's even debatable.

Spark plugs reading are used for fuel ratios.

My sled doesn't smoke when warmed up using 35:1 plus the premix I put in the tank... Todays oils are vastly different than the oils were when oil injection first came out.
 
FWIW, I ride with two poo dealer techs from a multi-brand dealer, guys wrenching on the motors. Their real world advice to their poo buddies - turn up the oiler, ounce per gal in the tank. Cheap insurance. Not a warranty issue in their shop.

Including the 600s. They've had multiple 13/14 600 piston/ring/ring land failures this year. None of the 600s had their oiler turned up, either.

You'll know if you're running too much oil if you start oil fouling plugs. Before that, it's only costing you oil. VES valve gumming is just as much oil type and use dependent, not just oil setting.
 
I love how the responses/opinions are always all over the place on this forum. So, I'll throw mine in the ring but I'll also back it up with me being a motor guy/mechanical engineer that actually owns a Pro RMK.

Two cycle engines love oil. The EPA hates oil. The factory spec is around 80:1, per EPA requirements. Turn up your oiler to 50:1.

Also, add a vent to the oil bottle. The factory cap is a horrible design. I bought the assembly from Paaso Racing. Contact him here: http://www.snowest.com/forum/member.php?u=122657 He also sells the vented cap version so that you don't mess with a warranty. Here's a pic of the Paaso Racing vent I added to my sled.
