Observations, My 09' XP 154" & The Behemoth M1000.

i suppose losing 25 pounds off the sled and adding a torsional secondary kit to my clutch won't help performance this year at all. You're right! weight means nothing on snowmobiles. I appreciate you clearing this up for me and everyone else. :beer;

the weight loss will help some, but not a ton when drag racing on a trail. and the torsional secondary, well, that's a entire can of worms right there in itself. i'm doubtful you'll see any difference when drag racing on trail.

i agree, these are small things in a drag race down the road... i was merely adding to the discussion. I added the tunnel dump can to eliminate right side exhaust cap off, i added the seat for weight savings and comfort (the 09 seat sucks) and the torsional secondary for better boondockin and climbin when going off and on the throttle. Although these mods were made not for drag racing... in essence, they would make advantages over stock. I am in no means saying that if you want to go fast in a straight line these would be the first mods to do. Simply saying that now my snowmobile is lighter and i'm interested to line them up again. Again, i want more mountain performance, like everyone else but since this thread of started to talk about an m1000 and xp racing down the road, i was merely giving my experience and input.

the tunnel dump can is cool idea, but do you ever wonder why cat's are the only ones that have issues bogging on the right/exhaust side??? they bog because the start injesting exhaust. there are two underhood intakes on a 2009 m1000 and one all the other Ms. exhaust gets sucked in the motor and thus it bogs... the tunnel dump won't stop the bogging, but it will loose some weight and its biggest benefit is that its quiter. something everyone can agree is a good thing!!! :D

now, as for the torsion kit - i hope you ran your sled in the deep stock and now you can compare it with the kit... that will really show you if the torsion kit was worth the money...

i find it funny no one tries to make a torsion kit for the Doos??? they work fine with compression spring clutches and the right calibration!?

09 was the first year intake that they had the under hood part. 09 was also the first year they put the exhaust gasket on the belly pan so that there was not excessive exhaust gas in the engine bay. Cats are NOT the only sled that bogs in the deep. my dads xp does it, one of my other riding partner has an 09 dragon that bogs. Any sled in deep powder experiences exhaust cap off. Yes, having exhaust capping off and then having an intake under hood will make it worse, i am not disputing that but i am definately not gonna agree that cat is the only sled to experience exhaust cap off. It is very clear that you love your xp and think it is the best sled. I have no problems with that and i also am not putting down your mods and saying how stupid they are. I personally have ran an 09 m1000 and i personally have ridden an exact side by side comparison of my sled with an 09 m1000 with tunnel dump. The only difference between the two sleds was the tunnel dump exhaust. the tunnel dumped 09 m1000 could make right hand turns for days and not bog in the deep. my sled would bog very badly to the right. So i do appreciate your opinion and additional text to this thread, but my research has proven much different than your opinion on why the m1000 bogs. As far the torsional kit... i get it, you think it's pointless. That is ok.

EDIT: i'm sorry if this coming off an argumentive. I'm really not meaning for that. It's just that every sled has it's ups and downs and everybody mods sleds differently. I'm in no way selling anyone a tunnel dump or torsional kit so if feels it's worthless, it's not gonna hurt my feelings. I was just trying to add to the threads original context and now it's gone way off topic. I guess it's just a little frustrating when i try to productively add to the forums thread and then people wanna voice their opinions how how effective or not effective mods are.

what i find funny is that doo is still using carbs and thus are losing out on the turbo crowd, which is a very large portion of mountain riders these days

Drag racing on hills or the flats tells you nothing about the steep and deep ability of a sled.
All I can say it is sad if a 1000m can not highmark (in steep and deep) a 800 doo.

it's all good. we were just sharing back and forth. i do appreciate your constructive feedback. i think everyone makes a great sled, that's what makes everyone on here so competative because each sled is very good.

Long day on the mountain gents....I'm pooped.

Long story short is this....

Buddies M1000 is a 153. I think that wasnt the best choice but he had to have the shorter track. We dillicked with it and cant get it to hook up for shat.

Found actual snow at Cottonwood pass in Colorado...Even found a bowl to ride in and I got stuck twice!

Found a nice hill with maybe a foot or more of fluff on a 12" base...

Lined up the Behemoth and the XP. Same results everytime. M1000 trenches badly as the XP gets up on the snow and walks away. We will need to do some work on that sled to get it right. It works great on harder snow but as soon as its fluffy stuff? That cat is in trouble.

So I gotta go hunt down Mr.Quick to pick his brain on how in the heck to setup the skid on that Cat cuz' it really sucks as delivered.

On to my XP....This is my first year. I got stuck twice and still cant seem to pull my sled up on one ski on flat ground....Then again neither can my buddy on the M sled.

We had another buddy on an older 03' Polaris edge chassisied big bore Polaris....He rides that thing on flat ground on one ski.

I need more practice for sure but in all? I'm real pleased with the XP and plan on figuring out how to ride it better in the upcoming months. Felt good to climb some hills and have some powdery snow though.....I'm done Trail drag racing my M1000 mounted Buddy. He cant keep that thing pointed in a straight line as its just all over the place. We clacked together today pretty hard. I'm done with that crap!

Glad you like the XP and are having fun, just wait until the good stuff hits. If you want that Cat to run great, call Erik at Alpine Motor Sports in Kremmling.

Yeah I think he has talked to them or Vohk or somebody up there....It needs some love for sure before it gets deep.

I dont wanna spend the winter digging that guy out.

OK - last jab (in jest!). ALL M sleds have an engine compartment intake. its right under the headlights on the top of the intake plenum. It's been there since 05! want it stop bogging in the deep? put on a BDX black boxx intake. it works well and loosed about 7lbs...

NOW - enough chatter about these minute detials - we need some snow so we can focus on the real deal!

Chaz - glad you got on some real snow with the two sleds.

PM me for setup info on that 1000. it will work fine given some inexpensive tweaks. Mine outclimbed or was exactly even with the RB clutched 154" XP in our group last year even with the 08 Camo track and it too was 153". it can be done! if he wants to smoke ya though, he's gonna need to dip into the wallet a bit more.

Looking back, i should've got a 162" in the 1000 for sure - that's the only way to really get the big liter to compete.

I concur on that. The big One Litre spins the track like a top fuel dragster in the staging area on the Lil' Ol' 153!!
