Not Average Joe Boost review

Ok Im somewhat convinced Boost owners will want a clutch kit or gear down..So I hope TRS can shed some light on this Boost problem soon so I can spend some more $ on this money pit..
I don’t think qd2 gearing will be too high or an issue.
2.3 is a good turbo sled gear ratio.

I’m not going to be running stock polaris clutching no matter what sled, motor or turbo I’m riding.

2.3 is a good ratio for a turbo sled.

As dumb as this sounds, I'd happily go to a lower boost setup (5 psi at 8000 feet) with a 2.6ish gear ratio and a higher compression head to get as much snap down low as possible. Maybe something I'll work on...

I'm no expert rider, but I'll give my $0.02. Boost 165 with the Velocity shocks. Only two rides so far. The first mile had a bit of bog and hesitation. Literally the first mile. It quickly cleaned up and has continued to get more crisp over the first 40 miles. No fouled plugs. My fuel pump continues to function. Miraculous, I know.

I've been on a 2019 Alpha 165 the past 3 seasons. I was on an Axys 163 before that. There is zero difference in throttle response between the boost and my Alpha or Axys. Just gobs more top end. No lag. Feels like standard Polaris clutching. A bit lazy, but if I was doing a blind test, I wouldn't know it was a turbo off the bottom. I can't speak for direct comparison to a N/A 850.

I also can't say I noticed any weight difference. It absolutely did not feel nose heavy; in fact it felt lighter up front than my Alpha. Incredibly intuitive to ride.

Clearly I'm a novice, as I think this is an unbelievable sled. To each their own.

I’m tending to think the last post from Newtrout might be a fair indication of what we’re in for. From the videos I’ve watched, in particular this link below, I can’t hear any turbo lag. Seems like when this guy pins it the R’s nail 8,000 ish more or less instantly. You can see his thumb punch it, and hear it hit peak rpm right away. I know it’s just a video but is anyone else noticing any lag? Also he is mostly in a meadow but from slow deep carves to WOT it seems to sound spot on. Again I know it’s not a seat of the pants feel but sounds snappy to me…

You do know he is going downhill and on flat land in this video?? You are clearly not an expert lol Turbos don't lag when they have no load.

Here’s a thought… I think some of us would like to see some videos of you riding your Boost… being the expert rider you are. How about you post up some YouTube links. You riding your Boost with the lag your describing in whatever specific expert moves you get it to lag. Maybe we’ll be able to hear this lag??

Again if you or anyone for that matter do not think it's nose heavy, you are either in denial or you just are out of touch with snowmobile set up. Burandt told me to try 80:90 (that is what he is running) tonight in the front shocks. He normally suggest 70:85 if you weigh over 250 lbs for an NA.(I weigh 185) One of the keyboard jockeys needs to break out a scale and weigh a stock turbo vs a stock NA with a can. I bet it's 45 lbs difference... I never said someone sucked or was novice if they disagree with me but I will say I would bet you are on the novice side just from what you have said. Saying it's not that big of deal and that someone can deal with it is one thing but complete denial makes one look stupid ??‍♂️

Hey, I told everyone the doo turbo is a boat anchor and some get offended and some just don't know. Just think I'm crazy. Ride a turbo and na back to back and you can tell the weight. No doubt about it. I was thinking it was just over 20 pounds they were claiming. Cans are supposed to be here in February so that
Mutes that out. Suspension and running issues will make it seem like double that.
As far as load, the video was flat and downhill but had some load because snow was hitting him in the face but not going to be the same as on a hill. Try putting a turbo on a track stand and see how much boost it makes.
There is always someone that gets unlucky. You might be the one. Sort it out or sell it. I bet something is wrong in clutch.

Rode the 165 Boost today. To put in perspective I ride 50 times a year.

Turbo sleds are heavy and I hate turbo lag for the technical riding I do.
I think the average person who never has had a turbo is going to love this sled.

However it has lag. It's not clutching. I have ridden enough sleds to know what turbo lag is. The thing is a boat anchor.

I had my last year 155 Pro with us and that sled is 10 times easier to ride and takes half the effort. This sled rides very very heavy.

I think really good riders are not going to like it. I will probably only break this sled out in 3 feet of fresh. It takes way too much effort to ride and the power is not enough to compensate for it. Again I think the majority of people on here are going to think its the greatest sled ever. However I think the NA will still be the best choice. I bet you'll see Burandt, Monroe, and Caleb riding NAs more than the turbos. Now if I could just get my Matryx Slash 155 Pro!

2022 Khaos 155 BOOST stretched to 165 with series 8 track. Still in break in mode.

Complete opposite of my impression of riding my 22 Khaos Boost.

If we are throwing out “perspectives” I currently have in rotation
2020 Khaos 163– 7” cut tunnel
2020 Khaos 163 on 155 Tunnel
2021 Khaos 165
2021 ProRMK
2022 Khaos Boost 165 (155 slash tunnel)

I can ride directly from my property and typically get out EVERY day the snow is good in Tahoe/ Truckee. If it’s no good here, I chase pow all winter. In a bad CA snow year, I’ll ride more than 50 days out of state.

My “level”—??‍♂️ better than some, worse than others. If you base “level” on airtime or doing the latest Instagram trick in open terrain….. I suck. If you like nasty drainages, aborted attempts, and doubling back on your own line because you get tree’d out…. Now you are talking my language. If you are a Monroe fanboy, you probably rode “the jungle” off Warren Wagon— that is a fun zone.

If your 155 Axys Pro feels 10x easier to ride…. There is something seriously wrong with your Boost chassis setup.

I’ve built and ridden dozens (closer to 100 than 10) of turbo sleds for customers out of my shop— NEVER owned one because of lag and lack of throttle response. HATED the dreaded delay when stabbing throttle.

My sled in the video above is in break in mode, in ethanol mode, running CA ethanol fuel. The trees are not tight in the video but I think it demonstrates on-off- on (some might say spastic) throttle response and picking up the skis at will.

Oh yeah… EFFORT….. I’m no gym giant…. I’m 6’ tall, 165 lbs, 48 years old. Matryx is easier for me to ride than my Axys sleds. Significantly easier. Noticed the same with the pre-production NA sled I had for a couple weeks last year.

To anyone who has read this thread and this post and is having a slight panic attack because someone on the internet said your new Boost that you are waiting for sucks…..

Take a breath…..

The Boost RIPS. I’m looking to add more to my stable. Maybe Chadly will sell me his…. CHEAP!?

Murphy how do think the khaos would have done as a 155 instead of the 165 in those conditions? Your front end looked it would come up at will.

I was trying to make all the guys who wanted one feel better about not getting one. They aren't all that. But I'm sure you found me out Murph. I'm not that good of a rider. I'm sure you are probably better. You are great moderator and even better Polaris ambassador. I'm sure Mr. Polaris would be very pleased with your work.

Where’s your video Chad???? Show us you riding your boost we’re the front end is heavy, and let us hear this turbo lag you’re talking about. Murph’s video and all the others out there look like the sled is kicking azz. We want to see your boost video not kicking azz.

I can pull the front end up pretty easy on my 165 Khaos.

The 155” Boosted Khaos target audience is the Caleb Kesterke rider (definitely not me) the guy who hits every wind lip, and just sends it.

I built my 165 Khaos because it gives me the light front end feel (especially useful in zero mph downhill u-turns) that I like and the 165 gives me the ability to sidehill steep terrain with less track wash downhill. It also has the better shock package.

We rode today and Chads boost rips and he rides it just like the NA will be, because he is a very good rider and teacher! It may take more work than his 21’ 850, but real work is riding my 14’ XM 163[emoji2957]

My Matryx slash 155 NA should be in later Jan and hopefully sooner. [emoji1317]

Metzger is also a killer rider and teacher!

It's pretty hard to make the sled not look like it kicks ass with me on it ?
Ask Balaz to film me next time. I don't have time for that crap. Come ride with me if you want to see me ride.

Sorry to bust your ego Chadly, but we don’t actually want to see you ride. We want to see and hear your sled. We don’t care to see you in action. We want to hear this turbo lag you talk about and see what a boat anchor it is.

Seems like every other video we’ve seen the Boost dose not sound like it has lag and the front end seems pretty lite as the skis are passing by the tops of the trees. We must be missing something??

Balaz… please humor us and take some video. Sounds like Chadly doesn‘t have time for that crap. He thinks you do. Not sure what that’s all about, but whatever.

I agree. The Khaos turbos look like they fly out of the snow. My Pro 165 does nothing like I have seen on videos of the 155 turbos. But if anyone has ridden a cut tunnel 155 knows the things just want to go over backwards.

Imagine that. You are comparing a 165 to a 155 and comparing a kaos to a pro. Most of the videos are also 165 boosts since most still don't have or are just getting 155 boosts.

well for what its worth, I have 100+ miles on my matrix boost 165. the sled is an animal!! Steep sidehills are way easier than my '21 Khaos. I will be converting it to a Khaos when all my parts come in. It rips up steep hills in deep powder with ease compared to anything I have ridden before. bring on the next ride. Oh and I'm loving the turbo. To each his own. lets go ride
