NOS. tell me the good, the bad?

Just as the title says I have been throwing around the idea for awhile now and with the new boss noss kit out it has sparked my interest even more. So what are the goods, and the bads about using it? Any major issues? Thanks

i used a boondocker kit on my m7 for two seasons before i went to a turbo. its real fun to have just for that little extra, i ran a 50hp shot. the only bad part i ever had was when the bottle was empty! i ran dual egt gauges and just watched close and never had any mechanical issues with it what so ever.

one bad thing i found was that you have to clutch your sled for the nos so it works good when your on the button but when your not the sled is doggy and doesnt pull the proper rpm, on days when i ran out i would be changeing weights on the trail so i could enjoy the rest of the day, but it deffinatly does work good when your bottle is full

so a set of cutler adjustable weights would be nice to have to add or drop weight easily on the trail? How long is a bottle lasting for most people when they use it in moderation or a normal days riding?

adjustable weights would deffinatly be easier, i would usually go through a 2.5lb bottle a ride and always had an extra im my backpack

It's a gateway drug. You'll be slingin parts on the corner for turbo money in about a year. At least I was.
On an M8 if you run a 40 shot your clutching should be fine. I don't see the point of clutching your sled for 10 second bursts. You should see about 100 RPM increase per 10 hp shot. The M8 is fine at 83-8400 RPM for 10 seconds at a time. If you are putting it on a 1000 they are a little more sensitive to RPM and it may not work as well with out clutching it. I ran the Boondocker kit with a 4 lb carbon fiber bottle and the bottle was good for the day. You figure about a minute of spray per lb of no2. Days where there was deep snow and lots of climbing it would go fast, boondocking it would last all weekend. The down side is a 4 lb bottle was about $25 to fill and I needed a gallon or so of race to get enough octane not to det. Some days 91 pump gas was fine and sometimes it wasn't. I think I got inconsistent fuel from the gas station so I just used some additive and was good. If you are running a high compression head it makes the octane requirement go up considerably. You might want to pick up a refill station for the garage and to take on trips if you ride for a couple days straight. It is nearly impossible to find someone around here that will fill a bottle sat. night or Sunday morning. Good luck.

Thanks bighoe. Thats what I have heard before about the kits. What octane race gas are people running with there kits? Or how often can you get away with just additive in normal 91 or I should say what kind of weather?

It costs $$ every time you push the button, and that's money you could be saving for a turbo.

I've given it thought many times, the biggest thing I keep coming across is that every other mod is there all the time & once you spend the $$ you've got the power.

Just save up for a turbo!

Bighoe, were in Bozeman fills up the bottles other that Team BLOME, Story Dist?

Well I have a wet system coming from Boss noss anytime. The new wet system is supposed to be the safest thing were it spits race fuel into your cylinders before the nitrous. It comes with a small fuel cell that you install under your hood along with the NOSS bottle. Also there is no need for the control box due to the new smartbox that they offer. They told me I can get 60HP on my m7

I ran it on my M7 and loved it. I am planning on putting it on my M1000 that I just picked up. I ran the boondockers system. I ended up only doing a 20hp shot. I felt like it did fine with that hp and it didnt burn through the nos fast.

Mike's Off Road always filled mine, I had a spot where they told me to put the bottle when I came out of the canyon at night and they would grab it and fill it next time they came to the shop. Scott was cool about helping out with the cost too, I think I got about every third bottle free. Scott started his own shop and Mike is back to running the show but I'm sure he will be just as cool about it. I wish I had kept my kit to run it on my Turbo for racing, I might pick up another one soon.

Good
Pushing the button = fun
Low cost setup for the HP

Bad
Have to fill the bottle all the time and the prices have gone way up (at least where i ride)
One tank of slightly off fuel = lots of little tiny pits on piston followed by engine stopage

I put nos on my last sled (King Cat) and only used it going uphill so no clutching needed. It was fun cause you could wait for the rpm's to drop and then pick them back up and just keep going. When you let off uphill it's like throwing an anchor out the back the sled stops climbing very quickly.

Since then I purchased and 07M8 had it ported for a little more $$ than the nos system and put on a 14:1 head. I think it's the same as nos doesn't loose rpm's uphill just pulls strong and always have the power. Make sure it's clutched for peak rpm and it should hold it. I'm not running any fuel controller with the setup either. No bottle refill mess etc. I think if I do anything more it will be a pump gas turbo the days of nos are over unless you are just looking for that little extra high mark :D

BTW I had the wet nos system where it ties into the fuel supply line and injected fuel and nos at the same time.

I was unaware that NOS made a kit for snowmobiles. I know they are a branch of Holley and deal mostly with nitrous systems for your car. Anyone have a link to the kit NOS sells for snowmobiles?

I have a NX kit on my car and I love NO2. I am looking for a kit to put on my snowmobile. The only bad thing is when the bottle is empty, you have to go refill it.
